Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Mitt Romney (Tounge Twister?)
My beliefs I feel are far more in line with guys like Jeffery Sachs .
Govt has a responsibility to not only keep the country safe (Military, Police etc.) but also to provide and help manage services for the common good where as Sachs argues, the Free Market is simply inefficient (Health Care, Roads, Schools etc.) It's why I get riled up whenever I hear jackasses on the right going on and on about liberals wanting to create some kind of bureucratic nanny-state. That's horse shit, we (well I anyway) just want to see some level of fairness across the board because society functions best when everyone does well and not just the lucky or the highly privileged. You need a healthy balance of capitalism and socialism for a modern society to work. I think part of the problem is, there hasn't been a serious debate followed by a consensus (though there may never be a consensus) as to what kind of government the country really wants and how to pay for it. The 2-year election cycles are also incredibly destructive to the whole process; they should be every 4 years same as the Presidential elections.
EDIT: If you get down to it, really what the right is pushing for (not everyone but the majority for sure) is a complete free-for-all survival of the fittest. Ford took all kinds of flack for paying his employees well enough to actually afford the cars they were making, but guess what? He was right. The greater the share of wealth that's in the hands of the middle class, the better everyone does as a whole as poverty goes down and more people are able to live happily - oh yeah, and buy all that stuff you Rich folk sell to get so rich in the first place. Nothing boosts sales like having a wider consumer base able to actually purchase your products.

I like the direction this thread has gone while I wasn't looking.
Anyone going to the Return to Ravnica prerelease next weekend?

Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Mitt Romney (Tounge Twister?)
I'm pretty sure Tinker is limited in formats where it isn't outright banned. While there are plenty of ways to cheat it into play, there's also plenty of easy counters to it. Pacify, Swords to Plowshares, Threaten, there's a lot of answers to that.

I haven't played since Alara Block. Most of this is news to me. I used to play a pretty solid Artifact Blue deck myself back in the day. I broke it all down though... ages ago.

ITT Ygg has never played against an Artifact deck before. Not even Esper.

Also: I love how many threads got derailed today... and how far from their original topics.
Mitt Romney Rant --> M:TG strategy.
I love it.

In some formats he shows up on turn 1, from anywhere in the deck.Originally posted by Yygdrasil View Postassuming you live long enough to afford the mana to put it out. Against a sliver deck that means 4... 5 turns max.

assuming you live long enough to afford the mana to put it out. Against a sliver deck that means 4... 5 turns max.Originally posted by Icemage View PostSliver decks are weaksauce. Ya'll have never seen the Blightsteel Colossus:

Note: This creature is Trample, Infect, 11/11. That means if unblocked it gives you 11 poison counters, causing you to immediately lose the game. Even if it's blocked, if the blocking creature is only 1 toughness... you still lose. And the poison counters are permanent, so even blocking it just means you die the next turn. It's basically immune to damage, and outright destruction only makes it go back to your deck temporarily.

I just said I'm a White player. What is this "damage" you speak of, all I have are a bunch of things that say "exile" in my hand . . .

Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Mitt Romney (Tounge Twister?)
I mean, speaking as a White player, Austere Command is an awesomely versatile card, but it seems iffy as sideboard material. If you just want Artifact/Enchantment removal in your board, GW has an effective metric ton of cards that can be played faster; something that might quickly become a personal favorite of mine (and yours, if you're using Sliver tokens) is Sundering Growth from the upcoming Return to Ravnica set. Of course, nothing says "shut up" quite like a well-placed Krosan Grip . . .
If you want to wipe their board, you can Dauntless Escort into a Day, or perhaps just use Martial Coup. This is all assuming you're only playing GW Slivers, which as silly as it sounds, still affords you a ridiculous number of options.
By the way, might I mention how much I love how a discussion on politics became how to best counter counters against an absurdly powerful strategy in MTG?

Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Mitt Romney (Tounge Twister?)
That's why I only play with 2 in the sidedeck. no sense cluttering my opening hand with a useless card more often than needed. Its nice to have in there, but by no means something to count on.

Six mana? If you want to play a Sliver Control deck, I guess . . .

Re: Melody's Melodramatic Meltdown on Mitt Romney (Tounge Twister?)
Because it's a 1/1, it is a markedly more effective card against Hivestone than against Plague . . .
I mean, of course, there are "All Slivers get +1/+1" types, but at that point you're using two cards to answer one card.
