Re: All over but the crying?
its why im here.
i already owned several of them, but picked up departed as a replacement for my copy that was stolen, as well as The Cowboys and Evil Dead II. There's a couple quality films on there. Also was surprised at how cheap a couple of them already were. ($20 for a BD, nice)

Re: All over but the crying?
Well considering they didn't have to do anything, I was quite shocked by it. But its not very well advertised either. LOL I wouldn't have found it except I was on my tech forum and someone mentioned it. (Ooooo I have a whole $50 to spend at BB....wow I can almost get a Shuffle! LOL)

I got a good chuckle out of this. Just in case anyone bought a HD-DVD player (including the 360 version) from Best Buy before Feb. 23rd, you can get yourself a gift card.

Re: All over but the crying?
Just an fyi: Sony announced they'll be firmware updating PS3's to BD 2.0 sometime this month (march). Probably in the next few days. It will be listed as version 2.2. So keep an I out for it. There's already a few BD's that use the online stuff and there's a few more coming out in the weeks ahead.

Re: All over but the crying?
Yeah, I kinda got screwed on my receiver. Was awesome when I got it and there still weren't any 1080p recievers on the market. 6 months later they're everywhere. :/
I figure the firmware update for it will be out around the same time the update for 2.0.

Re: All over but the crying?
To be fair to the PS3, there aren't any devices on the market that decode DTS-HD Master Audio. There are a few that will bitstream to your receiver; but you need a receiver that can handle DTS-HD MA (and those are still rare and expensive).Originally posted by Caspian View PostInteresting, I didn't know that.
I'm curious, is that something that they could eventually take care of in a firmware update? If it is possible, I would think they would do it if and when DTS HD becomes more common.
And yes, the PS3 most certainly has more than enough power under the hood to decode DTS-HD MA; I'm sure Sony's probably done developing the firmware for it. They just have no reason to add it yet, since it would cut the market out from under the other Blu-ray manufacturers - as well as Sony's own much more profitable BDP Sxxx line of standalone players.
The only failing the PS3 really has as a player is that it doesn't have analog output, which means you need an HDMI receiver to get PCM 5.1 or better since the optical is limited to PCM 2.0.

Re: All over but the crying?
You know what I would be interested in knowing....does anyone have a stand alone blu ray player AND a PS3? I've heard people say that the PS3 blu ray player is better than stand alone models. Just wondering if anyone has had personal experience with this.

For people thinking about buying a dedicated BD player (as in not a PS3)

Basically they're all gonna be 1.1 out of the box and are 2.0 ready and will be live with that later this fall.
