FFXI Crashes.. about to quit

THere's no probably about it, Its your computer, Square wouldnt sell a game that crashed for every single customer. They arent that dumb. Download the 3.7 drivers, if that doesnt work, Buy yourself a better video card.

Lots of crash problems happen because of RAM, so you might want to check that out before buying new stuff or getting rid of the game completely.

There is problems with the 9600pro and XT's. Turn on AGP Fast Write and lockups should go away, worked for pretty much everyone.

Couple of things you can try:

Check your Computer Manager>Event Viewing for any errors that Windows is reporting.

Go under Start>Run>type in msconfig. Get rid of any startup processes that may be causing a conflict. If you want to take the time, turn off all of your startups and turn them back on one by one to see if one is the culprit.

Reseat your V-card and RAM. (Sometimes they are not seated properly.)

Check for any conflicts in your hardware that might require a BIOS update.

Take out all of your RAM chips and put them back in one at a time to see if one of them is bad. (Bad RAM is actually common)

If none of this works, consider a clean install of windows or it could be a hardware problem. If you are convinced its the game, then perhaps the clean install of windows and FFXI will help.

The ram itself is fine, i checked it, although i am sure that high quality would perform better..

i shouldnt have to shell out another bill though.. this game runs fine on POS geforce4mx cards

I had the problem also and just realized that it might be my CPU heating up and blowing the hot air on my video card. My CPU was at 85 Degrees Celcius which is 180 F that's really hot. I couldn't even put my hand on the video card. I left my case open the rest of the night and didn't have the problem. Will have to get a new cooling system. Any suggestions?

yeah, i've checked my vidcard, and it isn't overheating. It won't burn my hand even after a day's worth of game.

As for the new cooling system, that would be a good idea. It can even increase your performance

Please dont blame the card or Square etc....

I USE a Radeon 9600Pro, and the game works flawlessly, and I'm at 1.3 Giz, with 512 RAM

You could try this for the Crashing Problem as it worked for me,..
Uninstall EVERYTHING and reinstall EVERYTHING ,.. i know the Patch has to Downloaded again. a Few People in my LS had the same Problem as Me with the Crashing and now after Reinstalling it..Everything is sooo Much better! Give it a try but i would only use it as a Last Resort!

when i got the game i ran with an mx440, no problems.

i now have a 9600 pro - works like a charm, only much prettier.

believe it or not, I actually did a full uninstall/reinstall

it worked for about 3 hours.. then started again.

Funny thing.. was that when i started playing the game, it would never happen. then all of a sudden when i got to khazam, and maybe a bit before that, it started happen routinely.

anyways, i quit the game, takes too much time to do anything. later.

This game has never crashed on me. It's your computer. I'm taking a stab in the dark, but it's most likely your video card.

I'm having this same problem.

Specs:
P4 2.6 Ghz
ATI RADEON 9700 AIW
512 PC3200 DDR RAM

My computer randomly restarts.
It also randomly freezes.

If many people are having the same problem, it IS NOT a spec problem. If your computer exceeds the sytem requirements (as they do), that should be a hint that it isn't the hardware itself. It is obviously your computer hardware/software set ups. Of course (the dumb and obvious thing) is to check to make sure you have the latest drivers for both the card and BIOS. If those are all hunkey-dorey, make sure you have not adjusted any settings in the Catalyst drivers. I did that once, and I couldn't play any OpenGL games until i reverted it back to normal. Do you have a large enough power supply? I suggest 400W if you're using Intel and/or a 9700/9800/5900/5950 (and maybe the 5700, but i'm not sure) because they require extra power to run. Is there enough airflow and cooling going on? If not, well that could be another problem. Make sure you do not have AIM running, I've noticed that whenever it now plays the sound for its ads, it will crash my comp and have it restart, or just do a physical memory dump. It isn't Windows either (unless for some odd reason you're running 95/98/ME) because it's now based on NT, thus making it very stable (but not linux stable). Have you looked at the Tech Support section of the official FFXI page or the driver problems that have been discovered w/ yoru card? Those are always nice places to start also. Other than that, I'm stumped. Are you able to Ctrl + Alt + Delete to see some form of error message at all?

Theres no question about it. Either somthing is wrong with your PC or you have some settings changed that shouldnt be touched. I mean i can run this game on my POS intergrated card and your saying that you can't run it on a 9600? A 9600 is like 5x as good as my intergrated card. In fact I just got a XT. And a 9600 is on the supported card list. So they didnt like mislead anyone. Its right there on the sight.
