It's called the Lance of Longinus. Longinus was a Roman.... I wanna say soldier.... well anyways from what I have heard and understand he stabbed Jesus with the lance while he was being crucified on the cross. Both elements in the show are present. The lance is used to pierce a holy thing to cross and from it LCL or "essence of life" flows. now that... doesn't that sound like Jesus, the cross, and water? ^_~ Just to think I know all this and I used to be athiest and Im not even too religious as it is.

The Tree of Sefirot is symbolic of God's powers. In the bible, Eve "ate" a fruit from the Tree of Wisdom, this is the bibles explaination of how Man has knowledge, memories, etc. Now Angels on the other hand "ate" fruit from the Tree of Life, meaning eternal life. When a being eats a fruit from both of these trees, they have powers of god-like nature (wisdom and eternal life, woohoo). The problem is though, both of these trees were destroyed... I'm not about to go into it (long story), but they were. So, to gain this god-like ability, a being that ate from the Tree of Wisdom and a being that ate from the Tree of Life must become one (Aren't the Eva's made of Angels, and Angels ate from the Tree of Life? And Men are inside controlling them, and they ate from the Tree of Wisdom? Talk about close).

Just thought I'd clarify.
