  • THEORIES OF EVANGELION! :o

okokok, so you all know I'm obsessed with Evangelion.

    yes.

well, since it is extremely and intricately plotted out to make everyone ask any question possible, I thought it would be enjoyable for us to share our little "theories" that explain the happenings of the events in Evangelion. Muaha!

okokok, so here's a little one that popped into my head lately. apparently, it's quite obvious, but it took me a while to get it, seeing as how I'm not very religious at all...

    okokok, so.

    12 Members of SEELE.

    12 Apostles.

SEELE is a secret organization of non-humans which has been running the world since the prehistoric times of man.

    So, like. I'm thinkin'...

    SEELE = The 12 Apostles?

Is that completely obvious, or completely wrong? What do you guys think?

    And share your ideas too!

Ya wernt SEELE those guys that looked like network towers?
i wish i could have a deep discussion but i watched it over 2 years ago, but is still my favorite Anime. Many good memories.
I remember there were other references to the bible along with the apostles. There was adam the original angel or something like that on a cross below Nerve HQ. And how genesis means the history of the creation of the world and of the human race. The name of that one lance in adam also had some reference i think. I wish i could remember more and had the time to watch it again but am very busy finishing up school.

...where did you get this? In all of my fandom I've never heard it. ^_^" I always just assumed that it was a group of people from various places around the world that have somehow gotten control of a large number of government agencies and have nothing but the Third Impact in their sights.

Read the Evangelion graphic novels. You get a lot of information outta those bonus dossier sections, "Secrets of Evangelion." It goes on to describe a lot of the religious references, translation errors, and stuff. The latest one (In Evangelion Volume 7) describes Evangelion's relationships to the Old and New Testaments, and the translation of the word "Apostle" to "Angel."

pai pai thats pretty cool how u thought of that, because i sure as hell didnt
but what i was thinking today when i was watching the last couple of episodes...
are the Eva's prehistoric man, or GOD(s)
i mean the evas having bindings that hold back they're beastial states, or am i wrong about that too...which i probably am
oh...and a question that i always forget to ask
is Rei human or is she an angel or some other....uh....celestial...being?
          ugh! overload must cool off
another piece of cake i must consume
"no matter where you go you are what you are playa
and you can try to change but that's just the top layer
man...you was who you was when you got here"

well, the EVAs themselves are "clones" of Adam and Lillith, the first two Angels.

All the EVA Units, with the exception of Unit-01, are copies of Adam. Unit-01, like humans, is born from Lillith, for the purpose of Instrumentality and Third Impact.

In The End of Evangelion, Kozo Fuyutski says that upon the taking in of the S2 Organ by Unit-01 and the recreation of Sepiroth (Tree of Life, that thingy that Unit-01 and the EVA Series create with the wacky circles and stuff), Unit-01 has become a God. I don't know if he means this literally or figuratively, though. All I know is that the reason for EVAs creation was to prove the existance of man, much like Misato says she has sex to prove her existance, and why Shinji hurts himself to prove his existance. But, now I'm trailing off...

Now, the whole thing about Rei has been a major debate. In truth (with provided evidence), Rei is neither human nor angel. In the year 2004, when Yui Ikari was "killed" upon activation of Unit-01, NERV scientists attempted to salvage her body, which was ingested by the EVA (Much like what occurred with Shinji in the "Weaving a Story" episodes). Of course, they failed, and the result were multiple entities which resembled Yui (apparently, these beings suffer from albinism, possibly from this event.)

Now, you may be asking, how do these beings have a soul? I'm not exactly sure why, but everyone says Rei holds the soul of Lillith herself. (In case you're wondering, Lillith is the first wife of Adam, the first human. Upon being exiled from Eden, Lillith became a demon, who slept with men at night to bear her demon children.) So, that would be the reason for why she is the key to Third Impact, and the events which follow in End of Evangelion. (Rei seems to have a separate conciousness, one which attempts to mimic the behaviors of regular human beings. This is seen in the sense that she develops a dependence on Gendo, a hate for Asuka and Ritsuko, and an affection for Shinji.)

So, to answer your question in short, Rei is not fully human, and not exactly an angel. She has human form throughout the TV series (although her AT Field is much stronger than humans, as seen in Episode 24), she mimics human nature, and she holds the soul and will of Lillith. Her appearance and similarity to Yui may be the driving factor as to why Shinji is so infatuated with her.

Umm, I'd like to note that I am a little wacky on the whole Rei thing, it's been a while since I've studied that particular area. If I said something wrong, please correct me!

I have a question, if anyone has a theoretical answer. Why do we see Shinji get a brief glimpse of Rei at the beginning and end of Evangelion? Is it a warning, or a whole "I will look after you" kinda thing? Or does he just sense a presence around him???

              Ah, fanboyism hard at work.
Just kidding... And I think I'll join in for a bit.

Ok well, about your theory on how SEELE are the Apostles. I agree about the symboblism between the two but I think SEELE actually being the Apostles is stretching it. Personally I just believe that the organization revolving around so much theology, thought it would be fitting if the group had the same amount of members as there were followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Something of an inside joke.

The Rei explanation was bang on to how I figured it.

And I'm going to leave off with a question (one that I know the anwser to):

Why is it that only children of the age of 14, can be a pilot of an Eva?

I'm sure Pai Pai Master knows it, so lets let other people have the mic today.

I've only seen evagalion twice and a great deal of the story i don't understand but what i thought i knew it was contridicted by you guys. For instance, Pai Pai master says that the eva units are clones of lilith and adam, but aren't they the third angel? adam 1 lilith (human) 2 >>eva 3<< and 4 till 12 the monster angels. The eva's weren't created to prove the existence of man but as a weapon. Because they could created an at field to counter the angels at field which no standerd weapen could breach. The humans bonded the eva with the harnass to control them and use them to fight the angels to prevent the third inpact. And Rei was never ingested, her pod ejected and banged against the walls. She died of the trauma with the beserk 01 and the impact of the rocket powered pod. And didn't Rei resembled someone, someone close to the father of shinji, maybe the mother. Remember the scene with the scientistlady who's been seeing him, when left alone with Rei, Rei suddenly called her a hore and she kills Rei. Maybe Rei is the of clone of shinji's mother. Recreated by shinji's father. This maybe explain the affection of Rei for Shinji's father. I'm maybe way of base and i would be glad if someone could correct my ideas. I'm still a rookie with manga/anime.

Kilgraw question, I didn't really noticed that only 14 year old could control the eva's, i think it's because shinji, asuka and rei of that age had the highest syncratio with the eva's. And i thought that the eva's were connected with the pilot and the eva choose the pilot. Like how OO protected shinji during the angel 4 attack.
All animals - even humans - can be herded. The trick is to let them think they choose their own destiny.

Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Touji, and Kaoru are all 14 years old. There is a reason for it, try to figure out what it is.

Woah, I stumped an Eva fanboy with an Eva question.... Unheard-of.

Ok well here's a clue; what happened the year these children were born? Find that out and all will be revealed.

well yeah i know they all gotta be born after second impact. hell, kaworou was born on the day of second impact. I've never been able to figure out the exact reason why. all i know is that Yui wasn't born after, and she was ingested by unit-01. I suppose it is just for synchronization purposes, but is there more to it?

blar i hated eva, so boring-- so stupid-- the only thing it did well was going for that "artistic" approach at the end-- talk about dumb-- seriously watch some other anime folks, you'll then see how lame EVA is....

but whatever that is my opinion of course, i mean no matter what i say or do there will always be those who love terrible things (i mean look at how well the matrix movies are selling)

The Tree of Sephiroth from wat I have heard and understand is the 10 ways for a mere mortal to become a god. The God. To achieve the status of a god. You know power, creation, death, all the fun stuff. Now I'm not sure if that means that the "true god" is inside the Eva... but the way I believe is that yes... since everyone's concious becomes one then Eva is all knowing. etc... so naturally I believe that the Eva would therefore be The GOD as in the old one would just be naturally incorporated into the presence of the Eva.

Oh btw.. I know I might get bashed to hell for this... but Eva sucked.. it was vapid and very non-thought provoking. Pardon my spelling and grammer mistakes btw. Shows that I'm not to smart, right? Lol, either way.... sorry but I though Evangelion was horribly vapid and dull not to mention extremely simple. The main uses of the religious elements was a ploy to destract u from the actual story in itself. In a sense the religious overtones were mentioned to make the story itself more deep.... but once u realize that they truelly weren't really a part of the story and that they were just explanations to stuff, then the series becomes simple and not soooo great... lol, and look I trailed off into nonsensical rhetoric.
