  • New Naruto Episodes?

    I just recently got into Naruto and I've been watching the original show with japanese voiceover on YouTube.com.

    For those of you who dislike this anime after seeing it on Toonami and have not seen the original japanese dubb, then please give it a second chance. Not only is the voiceover much better in japanese (the original voice actors are MUCH better), but the dialogue is a bit more mature than the english dubb (Naruto likes to cuss quite bit), as the show was "dumbed" down in order to appeal to a younger american audience.

    Most importantly, he doesnt say BELIEVE IT every few seconds (that phrase was an add-on to the english dubb to help synchronize the lip movement for the dialogue)

    Anyway, I noticed that YouTube only has episodes up to 200, does anyone know a site that has episodes 201+, and if not, when the new episodes will be uploaded.

    TO THE MODS: You can go ahead and change the title of the thread to "NARUTO THREAD" and make it a sticky if you need to Pai Pai Master

    Thank you

      Besides YouTube.com, SaiyanIsland.com has quite a selection of Naruto episodes, but they require Realplayer, unlike Youtube which uses Window media.

      Thanks for the info, looking forward to seeing new episodes

        With respect to the profanity, the fansubbed versions run into translation problems simply because some words and phrases have no direct equivalent in English.

        For instance, "kuso" in Japanese means "shit" literally, and most fansub groups translate it literally like that. It's not incorrect to do so, but it conveys harsher overtones than the original Japanese, which is more of a mild interjection along the lines of "darn it!".

        That said, I absolutely agree that the fansubbed versions are still infinitely preferable to the dubbed as far as accuracy and voice acting. Still doesn't make it a great anime (way too much filler), but there's no denying that the fansub versions are significantly more enjoyable.

            I've noticed him saying dattebayo alot too. From what I've been told, dattebayo is just another way of finishing a sentence in Japanese, it supposedly has a more harsher tone to it, so it makes him sound "tough".

              I found out that "dattebayo!" is roughly translated into "I'm gay!" If I can find where I procured this info I'll post it...but I just remember reading it on a site, and it makes me laugh when Naruto yells something along the lines of "I'll be come the Hokage..! I'm gay!!" I promise I'm not making this up, I read it on a site somewhere, and they didn't seem to be making fun of Naruto at all...*goes to search for the site....fails *

                Rofl. It doesn't mean that. I know exactly where you got that from. it's from http://www.dattebayo.com they're a fansubbing group that does naruto, and that's what they put for it to make fun of idiots that believe that. Bittorrent ftw.

                Dattebayo doesn't mean anything at all. It's just his way of speaking. There is no translation to what it means.

                  XD! Okey, well thanks, I had seen this about 1 year ago, so I had forgotten where I found it, and I just remember thinking it was funny, although terribly unlikely...lol...still though "I'll become the Hokage..! I'm gay!" It's just funny, lmao

                    Re: New Naruto Episodes?

                    Dattebayo as I understand it is sortof the opposite of degozaru. It carries the same meaning as desu but is just a very informal and assertive way of saying it. It's sortof hard to translate because translated for meaning all three phrases are just "is." I guess roughly you could put it like this.

                    Dattebayo = Yer
                    Desu = You are
                    Degozaru = Thou art

                    Someone more knowledgable back me up?

                      Re: New Naruto Episodes?

                      I'm pretty sure it doesn't really mean anything and I can't say I've ever heard any other character say it. I believe it's just one of those nonsense words that are used to give a character more personality. It's a bit like how in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Rika says nipa~ and Rena says hau~, though a lot less moe.

                      Desu is a word that is so different from anything in English that you can't really directly translate it. Degozaru is, as Taskmage said, an old and formal way of saying it. Less serious samurai and ninja characters often use it in their speech in anime set in modern time.

                      Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :p

                        Re: New Naruto Episodes?

                        From the wikipedia article on Uzimaki Naruto:
                        In the Japanese versions, Naruto often ends his sentences with "dattebayo" or "(verb)-ttebayo", and as such has a unique style of speech. In the Japanese language, an ending can be added with no meaning to make the tone sound tougher, childish, girlish, or many other changes depending on the many existing endings. "-ttebayo", which is not a well-known ending, has no literal meaning and cannot be translated, but carries the connotations of the speaker being uncultured, brusque, and seeming tougher than they really are.[citation needed] In the English anime and video games, he often says "Believe it!" to fit with the mouth flaps of "-ttebayo".

                            Re: New Naruto Episodes?

                            Bottom line: if you like subs, watch subs. If you like dubs, watch dubs. If you don't like dubs, don't go watch a dub and expect to enjoy the anime.

                            One of my non-FFXI related pet peeves is people who turn sub vs dub into some kind of religious war. You can offer whatever logical-sounding arguments why one is superior to the other. But it simply comes down to a matter of preference. The quality of voice overs for dubs can vary greatly from one series to another, so it's not simply a matter of "subs are always better than dubs".

                            I'm half Japanese. I learned to speak conversation Japanese about the same time I learned English. I spent much of my childhood in Japan, watching Japanese TV. I grew up watching stuff like MS Gundam and Dragon Ball in its native language. And yet, I can enjoy anime in both subbed and dubbed form.

                            If you don't like chicken, just say you don't like it. Don't try to convince people that there's a logical reason why that's the case.

                              wow talk about reviving a necro thread.
                              In any case, their past episode 200+, 220 is the end of Naruto Phase 1 essentially.
                              Now their on Naruto Shippuden, where he is older by 2.5 years, and more things have happened, he improved his technique and has better access to Kyuubi.

                              Their on Episode 5 now. So far, not much action, just a lot of story line.
