what show first turned you into an anime fan?

I wanna hear your stories.What was THE show that brought you into the wonderful world of manga and anime?For me it was the Saint Seiya tv shows.I had never really heard of Japanese animation before,I was 10 when I saw the first episode,and I was forever hooked.Then I gradually took notice of Masamune Shirow's work and it all went growing from there.Now I find myself 20 years old and worshiping Spirited Away(work of pure genious),and I think on all the things that have happened and how anime has changed/influenced my life since.I wanna hear from you guys too,please talk about your experiences...

Astro Boy was the first anime I ever saw, which I saw at the age 4/5 ... Although at that age I didn't realize what Japan Animation was. A few years went by, then I saw Dragon Ball... I Was 7 at the time, still pretty clueless. A few more years go by, and I saw Ghost in the Shell. This was the anime that turned me into an official anime fan.

It was either Akira or Vampire Hunter D. They were two earlier animes that actually got exposure in the states, along with some other random stuff that no one remembers (Venus Wars comes to mind).

The first anime i ever watched was dragonball and samurai pizza cats and later when cartoonnetwork stated playing anime movies real late at night (i was about 7) i remeber seeing Vampire Hunter D UN-Cut and loving it, LAter i got really into it after watching BurnUp when i was bout 10 and since then i have seen Tons of anime such as Robotech(A FAvorite) and later into Gundam Wing, yes i remember Venus Wars i remeber rented it before.
Akira and Ghost in the Shell, were some of my earlier ones than i went towards ones like Evangelion which pretty much did me in, Inuyasha, Ruironi Kenshin, .Hack and i was watching them subs way before cartoonnetwork ever decided to air them.

Gundam Wing got me started. It's probably my favorite anime of all time. After that I got into DBZ for a bit but then it got repetitive so I backed off a little. Over the next three years I basically forgot about anime until I was oh say 13. From then til now I've been watching as much as I can get my hands on (which is basically whatever Toonami airs and what I own.) I have Gundam Wing : Endless Waltz and Escaflowne : The Movie, as my own. My brother has the complete series of Cowboy Bebop. Bebop is my second favorite anime.

I saw Akira about a month ago and MAN THAT MOVIE WAS AWESOME. Princess Mononoke too. I also now really like Inuyasha, Outlaw Star, Trigun, and Rourouni Kenshin. I'm also trying to borrow the complete Evangelion series from someone... yea you could say I'm hooked.

Samurai Pizza Cats...lolz I remember watching that when I was like 4 or 5. Those cats r0x0r my s0x0rs. The first ones actually I think are DBZ and SailorMoon. I always watched SailorMoon in the morning before I went to school in the early morning hours to have fun in my little kindergarten class. Oh the nostalgia. Oh yeah there was this one I saw on a japanese channel I used to have when I lived on Oahu (One of the Hawaiian islands) and the show is called Crayon Shin Chan. A weird little show.

i used to watch Sailormoon also before school, What could be better about Samurai Cats that diliver pizzas by firing out of a canon while fighting evil.

I hate to say it, but Pokemon got me interested in anime. I am currently watching EVA.

For me the first one I saw had to be "Fatal Fury: The Movie", a friend had lended it to me. She mainly was showing me were she was getting her inspiration to draw the artwork she had. Also lended me after that one "Ghost in the Shell", then saw "Armitage III: PolyMatrix" on SciFi shortly after. Then just snowballed down, any anime I could find I ended up watching. "Sailor Moon", "DBZ", "Mobile Suite Gundam", "Digimon" (All the series that have been shown in the US), "Zoids", ".Hack//sign", "Inu Yasha", "Ruroni Kenshin", "Trigun", "Dual: Parallel Troubles", "Key: The Metal Idol" etc. etc..

A friend of mine showed me My Neighbor Totoro, which was the start of the crazyness. Then after humor writer Dave Barry made fun of Sailor Moon, I had to see for myself how bad it was... but then (sadly) I ended up liking it. -.- I mean c'mon, girls, short skirts, whee. Now I moved on to better and usually much crazier shiznit (Excel Saga, Dr. Slump, One Piece, etc). Certainly it has been the hole in my wallet for many years now. :sweat:

ok lets see....when I was a youngin (like 9/10) my older cuz showed me vamp D....and well I loved it but I was too young to know it was "Anime" or what "Anime" was.

then I saw Akira at like 12....and I loved it but I was too young to know it was "Anime" or what "Anime" was, however it did remind me of D for some reason I couldn't put my finger on.

oh yeah and I remember watching some Dragonball eps. on tape back in the day, but id have to say dbz was my gateway into anime at age 14/15
