Oh you caught that? We had a great lol about that on BG earlier, I was praying she'd create an account and come try to play with the big boys away from her little security blanket of SE devs who would be willing to bannz0r people over what they say. On BG, all the stops are pulled. If you're dumb, you're gonna hear all about it.

And quite honestly, I just wanted her to register on BG so I could get in on the fun. It's so much less fun from the back line. Although it's still pretty fun.

                  Oh...right.

And shared your post with BG, because it was that good. Lol. So if you see your post there, I'm not mocking. I'm giving it the Aksannyi seal of approval.
It's only a response to one of the many idiotic ideas that have been posted for the developers there. It's just something that is more important to me personally though because I never believe it is an improvement to the game to take options away from people.

If anything, this should be an opportunity to make diverse parties more attractive. As parties existed before Abyssea, I could mourn their loss. But I won't. Because I hated them anyway. I agree that partying in the game is cheapened. But because of things like removal of level caps. Because of things like Abyssea's low entry level. Abyssea is derivative. It's alternative-dimension storyline is cheesy. But if it were its own full blown expansion, people wouldn't even bat an eye because it's just players moving onto the next big expansion. Where was the outrage when ToAU was introduced and everybody fled Jeuno en masse?

The thing is I completely understand why people like Abyssea's low entry level. All of the game's worthwhile content was always done at endgame. Hence the push to get there was fast as possible. Level capped events? Those were just a means to get to that high level utopia, like CoP's level capped missions were just a means to get to Sea. Nobody does level capped BCNMs for the leet gear they drop for a level 40 player. They do BCNMs that drop items that are useful well into high levels. Seriously, who here did Assaults that they capped at level 50? At lower levels, you couldn't even make a worthwhile contribution to open events like Campaign or Besieged because you just died. Sky? High level content. Salvage? High level content. Fiat Lux? High level content.

Everything in between? Parties, parties, and more parties.

The solution is to make the ride to high levels a pleasurable experience which, for a lot of us who did it the traditional way, was anything but. Otherwhys, people are just going to do whatever they can to get to high levels so they can take their job and play with their friends. The fact that so many zones are vacant now because of Abyssea just shows how devoid of content they actually were. Sure, Bhaflau Thickets are mysteriously empty now. But no more lifeless than zones like Toraimarai Canal or Ifrit's Cauldron were for the longest time. And people were apparently Ok with that.

I'm not ok with that. Toraimarai Canal is one of my favorite zones. I'm not sure if that has a lot to do with me being a SMN or not... but I really enjoy the zone. After I pretty much finished getting everything I ever wanted to get for SMN, I used to spend time hanging out in the zone and offering help to anyone who was passing through.

(I was really bored a lot of the time)

I wish there were more to do in that zone tbh.

Oh, it was there, it's just long been forgotten. And people still do bitch about how ToAU killed the traditional party. Because xping in sky was so super awesome, right?

The only thing I have to agree with is what Dauntless (who posts on this forum, but I can't remember his username here, he has the sig with his Elvaan in Aht Urghan wearing Askar) said, that a brand new player who has never once picked up this game, if this new guy went into Abyssea and leeched/leveled all of the way to 90, he'd be so fucking lost it wouldn't be funny.

Of course there are forced breaks for G1-G....8? But remember when you first started the game. Remember how you knew fucking nothing about this game. Not how to sort your inventory. Not how to do mog safe expansions. Not how to make macros. Not how to change gear. Not how to gear in general. Imagine if you never touched this game even once and suddenly you had a level 90 character. In this sense, leeching does indeed create people who have no fucking idea what they're doing at endgame.

Granted, most of the people starting these days have played the game before. The new players who pick up this game are not as common as they once were. Even SE knows this. But when you do get a brand-spanking-new player who has no earthly idea what's going on, allowing them to level as quickly as Abyssea does is definitely doing them a disservice. Even for me, it wasn't until about level 40-45 on my first job before I really understood what I was supposed to be doing; before I realized what gear swaps were and how to use them. Etc. So I can see where that would be a problem for brand new players. I don't care who you are, if you're brand new and you level from 1-cap in half a day, you're going to be totally lost. No amount of research is going to teach you everything you need to know about a job in a day.

Someone should post that. Since I can't. But it's probably the only good argument I can find (other than "I dislike the game now because of how it's changed") for keeping lower levels out of Abyssea.

You show me a genuinely new never-played-before person who can learn everything he needs to know about this game in less than twenty-four hours and I'll take it back. In fact, I'll even buy the game again and start over if you can show me someone like that. I'm doubting that a genuinely new player even under the guidance of the wiki, higher level longtime players, and other resources could learn all they need to know about properly gearing/learning about FFXI in less than one day.

It's a combination of so many things really. Even before Abyssea was introduced though, partying was somehow already on the decline as people got the jobs they wanted leveled and never touched parties again unless they wanted merits.

Deep down, I blame FFXI dying on SE's failure to create compelling low level content to make that people might always enjoy the ride to endgame. Content that would make some people not mind leaving a job at level 30. I didn't think of CoP's level caps as low level content. I thought of them as high level content with the added challenge of stripping you of some of your abilities, making you buy more gear, and making more macros. Aside from missions and subligar hunting, you had no reason to hanging around Sacrarium.

When the Ballistas were good, I really enjoyed the PvP system, even with level caps. Hell, on its last leg, the 60 caps were actually the most popular level cap, not 75. But alas, Ballista was something that never really caught on the general population. Most people think Ballista was pointless and stupid. Personally, I really think SE was onto something with it. Then they dropped the ball and never worked on it again. But I know a couple of people who actually leveled jobs to 60 just for 60 cap Ballista. That's what I'm talking about.

I never had any interest in PvP in FFXI but I love it in WoW. Go figure.

It would have been nice if there were lower level ways to get xp that weren't just grind, grind, grind. In WoW you can run random dungeons at all levels (well, from 15 on up) and those involve killing a bunch of mobs and a few bosses, and you will probably get something your toon can equip from it in the process. The mobs give you xp and you get a slight xp bonus for completing the dungeon itself.

Not stuff like lolGarrison. Which was almost impossible to win with a pick-up group.

But they didn't go that route, and that's why people looked at pink birds for 37 levels.

First of all. Dauntless is in my LS... and I'm so fucking proud of him right now XD.

Second. What you just said Aks... is exactly why I have yet to do any Abyssea-related activities with my LS. I haven't taken any of the new players in... I haven't even suggested it. We have over 20 members right now... most of whom are brand-spanking new and have no idea about the game... let alone Abyssea. In an effort to raise them to appreciate (see: Understand) their jobs and the game itself... I have been fostering them to help one another in traditional parties. In fact... the night before the servers went offline, Raydeus and I took 3 other members of the LS on a trip to Qufim Island to kill worms and have a great time. Some of them were new and some were returning... but over-all... the word Abyssea never came up.

Despite it not coming up in conversation... WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!?!?! We still had fun... go figure.
