Apparently from the dat stuff Martyr and Devotion will both use the WHM's HP and not MP.

Martyr sacrifices HP to heal a party member double the amount.

Devotion sacrifices HP to give a party member the same amount of MP.

Well heck, you guys can have my HPs, I only need one anyhow.

      *throws pink fluff everywhere*

On a side note, does Devotion work on self? (Like how I can cast Curaga on myself) Or is it like Cover (Never seen a PLD Cover themselves, although it might be possible.)

Yes, it was inspired by the Simpsons
If you know how to download and use VRS, I am interested in being tutored.

Whew! Even better than I thought. I don't mind sacrificing my hp for another's mp as long as the tank is good.

Though.. gotta wonder... can we take it too far?

        >Herrisa uses Devotion on Tarusmn.
        >Tarusmn gains 960mp.
        >Herrisa falls to the ground.
        >Party: . . .
        >Herrisa: Damn your mp pool.. damn it to Hell.

Just kidding... I'm sure we'll be stopped at 1 hp... right? Right?

Edit: Bad thought, but they did increase the amount of xp regained for Raise...

Maybe you can specify value via a specific command?

            /ja "Devotion" <Tarusmn> 300?

I seriously doubt we'll be able to do it on ourselves. Unless the recast is just nutty, can you imagine what we'd be capable with full regen merits and regen3? ^^

Still, I am totally jazzed for this update. I feel bad that I don't even have so much as one stinking little limit point-- I need to get out and exp XD

Re: 7/24/06 Update - What's in it for WHM?

Considering these are only merit point abilities (lv75 WHM), it won't affect the lower level balance of power. I'm glad to see these new abilities, though. Not that WHMs are in any danger of being out of jobs at end-game; Reraise III and Raise III are just so critical to holding together groups and alliances without people getting upset, the rest is just gravy.

Giving out HP as a job ability is really nice; it has nice synergy with our JSE ring, too, assuming it gives a sizable amount, not to mention having Auto-Regen to get those HP back.

I don't see it drastically changing the WHM role the way the other job merit abilities might (I'm particularly interested in what will happen to Thief, Black Mage, and some of the melee jobs - I strongly suspect Tier II Ancient Magic is going to drastically affect the way Black Mages operate).

How have people gotten this stuff out of dats anyway? My crummy system hasn't even registered that there's a version update yet. I wanna get out there any martyr myself darn it!

Interesting on what effect this will have for dual whms. While one has hate, the other could use Devotion to restore the others mp and vise-versa. The only problem would be if it's put on a 10 minute timer.

I was more thinking of it MAJORLY stepping on RDM toes with their Convert. (Which runs on percentages, not 1:1, a taru RDM can convert at a 1:2 ratio, while a galka does well to convert at 1:.5

As a Hume I can barely hit a 1:1 ratio using mp gear (970MP/1000HP)

I don't think Tarus can convert as much, they are always around 700HP or something like that.

Maybe a Taru RDM could give us the right numbers.

                          I still think there's nothing for the normal, mid-level whm ; ;

Ok, I'm not a big player but still... bah, gotta have to lvl more... but so far rdm are still the ennemy while looking for a party.

                          Sorry to sound bleh.

That's because there isn't anything for the normal, mid-level players at all, Tier II enfs for RDM should've been lvl 50-60, the convert TP to MP ability for PLD would've been nice for lvl 60 or so.

Those abilities for WHM would've been great while leveling up (lvl 60+).

But since they are all for endgame stuff (I still don't know why) I guess this has nothing to do with the job adjustments they were talking about at the event.

What's the point on having all the cool stuff with merits if you can't get lvl 75 in the first place.

Eh? I have something like 965HP and 1200MP in full-on MP mode as WHM75/BLM37 with 1 level of HP merit and 0 levels of MP merit.

As Taru RDM74 I have (depending on subjob and support gear to match) a nearly perfect 1:1 HP/MP ratio that floats just a bit above 1000HP and MP, and that's without much, if any, really ridiculously unusual gear.

That's good to know, I always thought Taru RDM's had more MP and less HP, but if that's the amount a Taru can convert then I guess I'm at a good place (and I still need to get better MP gear and lose the -HP stuff I have, maybe I'll get something around 1100MP/HP as a hume. ).
