i think this healing hate is a bug or should be a bug and needs fixing.

EQ had the same exact problem upto Kunark expansion until they fixed it. it started out 1 hp dmg to a mob = 1 point of hate. thus, 1 hp healed also = 1 point of hate. even with taunt, a tank couldn't compete with heals. a mob usually does more damage than the tank. a healer is their to negate that damage so in essence the healer is generating almost the same amount of hate points as the mob doing damage to the entire group.

FFXI's provoke is a little more effective than EQ taunt was, but still not effective when battles are drawn out. it doesn't seem right that a class who's main purpose is to keep aggro gets out-classed in that department by a delicate healer.

EQ eventually changed it so that 1 hp healed is only 1/3 point of hate. i think FFXI should do the same. even 1/2 point is better than it is now.

It's certainly not a bug, though - I actually think it works out pretty well once you get past the ugly levels (1-15).

The healing hate problem goes away around level 33 or so. Firstly because WHM stop hitting for damage (and picking up extra hate) because they simply don't have any attacking power worth mentioning, and second because the tanks start hitting for more damage as well as having access to more taunts.

Additionally, the Regen series of spells was expanded for WHM specifically to address this issue. Regen is not only a great healing spell, it also generates minimal hate when cast. Smart healers rely on Regen after level 21 to manage their hate levels.

You also, at higher levels, get access to defensive spells like Blink and Stoneskin, which can be very useful indeed when you take advantage of them.

It's probably a decent AI.. I mean in FFT and FFTA you would always want to kill the enemy Whm first since they can undo lots of time with heals and raising.

But I guess, dumber AI wouldn't notice how their attackers got healed. *shrugs*

If I'm in a battle and know I'm dead meat, I'll try the spell. It has saved my ass a couple times. If you're going to die, no harm in using it.
