  • Paladins Attack Power

I was just wondering how weak paladin's attack power is. Is it true they have almost the worst attack power.

  • #2
I shouldn't think so... They are, what they call in-game, "warriors on chocobos," or so one site says. I think they are just a little weaker than Dark Knights, but still respectable, or else no one would want to be one.

Think Cecil, he was pretty dang powerful as a Paladin.

Edit: Also, what would be the point of having a warrior and slight white mage mix without a pretty good attack power?

      .

Paladin is a Defense based class. Their attack power isnt crap but it isnt quite as good as some of the other melee classes.

PLD... in lower mid lvl, the attack is about same as other job

however, when they going into higher lvl (50+), there is some significant between pld and other melee jobs...
        ?

Put Warrior as a job along with Paladin, and you're set, me thinks.

Paladins progressively get weaker as they level up higher. The thing is that in order for a Paladin to be as useful as it can be (which is being a meatshield) it'll have to use a shield. Due to this fact, they can only equip a one handed weapon, as opposed to a DRK who can equip two handed swords and not get yelled at by the PT members, since they're supposed to be dealing damage, not taking damage. At level 40, the PAL/WAR with a one handed sword does about the same damage as my level 40 RDM/WHM. They just get better weapon skills than RDMs. Boo.

All I know is that, considering how insanely high the defense is, the attack isn't low enough to be fair to other classes.

Question. Is it possible to have Paladin as your main job and then Dark Knight as your sub job? Regardless, of how difficult it is to do this, what are the benefits of it? Since Dark Knight is a strength based job and Paladin is a defence based job could you not create the ultimate Knight? Strong in both strength and defence? Not to mention the ability to use both white magic and black magic.

If this is possible then thats definatly my goal. To create a "Heavenly Knight" if you will.

You can have any main job and any sub job.
The reason people don't pick this is because DRK and PAL make each other obsolete. Usually in PT picks people are looking for the ultimate defender or the ultimate attacker. If you did them both you just have a normal class.
And for paladin people usually want a meat shield so they want PAL/WAR, and DRk/MNK for faster attack speed counter more hp and accuracy. They usually get one single pal and one drk for the group instead of both in one pacakage.
I don't have the game so don't take my word but this is what most people say.

Well, that would make sence now that I think about it. Thank you for your quick responce. Blasted, then my dreams of creating the ultimate knight have been ruined!! Bah, I am sure that there are other ways to reach the goal.

As somone already mentioned, Paladins attack power doesn't really differ from WAR in low levels (up to lv30 or so). At such lower levels, Paladins actually participate on a renkei (weapon WS combo) with their red lotus, serpah blade, etc.

However, once you reach Lv60+, where every job gets specialized to their strengths, PLD's attack power is PATHETICALLY WEAK. (definitely lowest of all melee, and only slightly higher than RDM). I know this, because I am a lv61 PLD  At such high level, your job is to take enemey's hits, and draw its attention by taunting/curing. Period.

However, because of PLD's high defense, PLD has become one of the most essential member to have in a PT. In fact, I would say that PLD ranks as probaby 3rd or 4th most sought after job class in any given PT (after WHM, BLM, and BRD).

PLD normally can deal a LOT more damage than RDM.... don't compare a single hit.

PLD 1h sword skill is the highest of all. in a PT he would swing 10 and hit 8. doing 40-50 damage each

RDM 1h sword skill is ok. in a PT I would swing 10 times for 1-2 hit. doing 10-20 damage each.

above i mean if we're fighting tote+~ not only PLD gain access to better weapon, but the higher skill also make it hit for more damage

Ok, well can any import players give me suggestions? I love to solo, yeah I know it's not welcomed in FFXI and I probably won't do it a lot but I just like to know that I CAN solo. Anyway, I want a class that can "take a lot and dish a lot" if you get what I mean. Is there any combination of character jobs that achieves this? Whatever it may be, its what i'd like to do.

As a Paladin (with war or whm sub), you could realistically solo up to lv25 or so.

Paladin is perhaps the best class to solo, because of reasons already stated above.

However, in FFXI, after you get past lv12, you will find that forming a full PT and going for totetote (super strong) enemies will always be more rewarding, fun, and less time-consuming.
