I believe all Rapiers are piercing weapons and since Joyeuse is a rapier... Part of how you can tell what a weapon is by the sound it produces(when in mainhand). Joyeuse makes the same noise as a dagger makes when you mainhand it, but when you offhand it it produces the same sound effect as whatever your mainhand is (tho its weapon properites remain).

As far as swords go theres 3 or 4 general types. Rapier, Scimitar, Sword and possibly Warsword? I vaguley remember the Warsword types producing a different sound than regular swords, but it could just be a combination of bad memory and imagination since the last regular sword I touched was @30. I should probably test this since I have the time this weekend, we'll see... I do stupid things with my free time -_-

anyone know how i could cap my GS skill while at lvl43?
i can't really use the levelling guide as it seems to apply to higher lvl PLDs wanting to lvl it from scratch.

My GS skill is currently at lvl65 and i want to get it to about 140 using my lvl43 PLD...any suggestions?

      thanks ^.^

He posted that answer on the first page Hive Mind.

but that seems to be for PLDs who can solo in all of those areas. I don't think, for example, that I could lvl my GS skill in Crawlers Nest solo at lvl43. I don't have a static yet, so it may be a little hard finding a PT to lvl it.

Would it not be possible for me to solo my GS skill then?

To get your GS to where you want, it would be very hard to solo. Basically, to get your GS up to 100 skill, you'd need to be fighting easy prey.

One of the best ways I found to level eapons is to make a party(3-6 players who need the same level range of skills), and goto a place with easy prey to toughs(only do toughs if you have 4-6 members). Tough monsters will cap your skill at your current level.

If you want to get your GS to 100 pretty quickly, grab a partner around your same level, and go kill pots and gigas in upper delkfutt's (or in the basement). If one of you sub THF, you guys can make money while raising a skill. You could also ask one of the farmers in these areas to allow you to get skill ups(assuming you offer to pass on all shard drops).

The fact is, at your level and higher levels, if you're trying to skill up a weapon close to its cap, you can't solo since you should be fighting even matches or toughs. There's no easy way out of this.

Only when skilling up things far below cap can you skill up solo.
I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.

get some of that Au laut stuff (flavored milk. don't remember what it's called but it's good stuff)
find a toughy that's near a zone where no one ever goes and beat on him, zone, recover, zone back, he'll have recovered to full so you can repeat.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

AT 75 pld/whm with GS makes a great healler in place of whm in a ninja PT, most pld don't want to try this but, as long as you can cure and do dmg no one really gives a damn. Lvl 75 PT, speed is everything, IT++ don't really exist, and yes this includes sky, pld/blm is also pretty useful for conserve mp, maybe a galka could do pld/smn O.o

My pet has more HP right now than a level 75 galka monk >.> If only it could provoke...

You can solo up to like 140-160 or so in Quicksands on Helm Beetles. I did most of my Gsword leveling solo until 160.

Gsword is fairly sweet after we get past that weak DMG (stupid Gswords! -_-) hump before 50. That RG Sword at 55 rocks and everything after it just gets better. I just wish the WS were better on the whole which would make PLD a decent half-baked DD even at earlier levels. I was always a proponent of it, just no one listened to me =b.

And how much damage are you taking normally on mobs with your Shield/Sword combo.
