Rangeki is the best thing MNKs get for a while, at least, until Kuumeiken. And even then, When weighing "dmg based on TP" WSs as multi-hit versus single hit, if your gear is good, you'll typically do better with multi-hits...
Some numbers I crunched while solo-ing Liches:
Not really soloing, but 70+ MNK and 48-50 everything else + Skeletons = MNK soloing
WSs executed @ 300% TP
Combo, 4 attempts, average dmg: 394
Rangeki, 6 attempts, average dmg: 724
Kuumeiken, 5 attempts, average dmg: 568 << damages varied widely, but average less than rangeki
Souryuukyaku, 9 attempts, average dmg: 745 << accurate average, but not much better than rangeki
Musouashuraken, 28 attempts, average dmg: 1106 <<pwnage
Not really a scientific experiment, as the attempts are unbalanced, but a neat observation
The Damage on the non-tested WSs really seem to be dependent on Critical chance, cause you can do a lot of damage with Tankei (Defense cut, great against D+ able monsters like crabs and crawlers), Tackle(stun chance), and Backhand blow(TP basis for critical chance), it's just not very consistant...
Spin Attack is just kinda 'meh'...100-300 dmg to area just isn't appealing in most situations...
One thing I like about Musouashuraken, as opposed to combo or rangeki, is that TP is the basis for accuracy, therefore if you got the acc+ equips and are consistant hitting already, half of the time, a 100% will hit as many times as 300%...
Despite all this, as MNK, you'll find yourself a victim of PT desire to renkei moreso than PT desire for you to rock the house...
Especially if you have a THF in PT...Once you get Kuumeiken, you'll be doing Kuumei > Dancing Edge incurve renkei 'til the cows come home...and I've had Ashuraken for a while, and have only used it in renkeis twice in PTs. Everyone's a fan of the Light Renkei inducing Souryuukyaku...
Added Note: I don't like to mess with DPS or other raw numbers, because there are so many outside factor that can be a benefactor or detriment to it...Food bonus, temp bonus, monster resistance to kakutou, monster strength according to day and moon phase, hitting accuracy, etc...it kind a loses it's catalystic value, at least, to me it does.
