So, what I'm hearing is that Emperor Hairpin might not be that necessary? That would be great because I don't want to be a jerk and butt in on someone's camp, but it's *always* camped, and I quite simply can't afford a couple hundred K gil to buy one.

Even if it's not necessary I should probably look into getting one though if i can, eh?

Thanks again for the info, correct me if i'm wrong^^

Another suggestion I have if you want to improve your hits beyond the life belt is get the Level 14 Battle Gloves. +3 Accuracy and +3 Evasion I believe? I wore these gloves until AF and they seemed better than anything else I could buy besides Ochido's Kote.

Also, to reiterate what the poster said about thieves it's very true that they have nice damage on their weapon skill with Sneak and Trick. However, other than that combination their damage is really bad, the average hit I saw with a Thief in our party on an IT was 5-7 dmg per round with a Sneak + Trick Viper Bite of 500. I was averaging around 50 damage per hit and Rampaging Fists for 400+ on the same mobs. Besides that I had TP twice as often, so don't let the big numbers fool you.

Federation Tekko are a nice bridge between battle gloves and Ochiudo's Kote. They are 7 defense +3 accuracy +3 ranged accuracy, mnk/sam/nin level 25. I think they are from a windurst expeditionary force mission. They run about 40k on Titan.

I've already bought my Jujitsu Gi/Sitabaki in preparation for when I can use them (losing the +5 atk from my Republic Subligar, which is a Bastok expeditionary force item, but you have to make compromises to afford a 300-350k item!). Currently the only purchase I *need* to make for the next few levels is Mythril Knuckles +1 (10/91 +3 acc) for level 38. Currently with 144k in my pockets, and hoping to soon farm / sell my RSE set (roughly 180k there), which should put me in striking distance. I'm planning on skipping the brown belt, will just go straight from purple belt -> life belt, and get fuma kyahan somewhere in-between...

Bleh, monks are expensive as hell! But I love my damage output...scored a 372 damage *combo* vs. IT bat tonight in Garlaige...223 fusion skillchain damage...thfs, eat your hearts out.

With those few items Raging fists does alot of damage... Not to brag but I keep party melee damage on, and dispite people telling me early on that Mnk was a subpar job, I find my Mnk out damaging almost every melee in the party. Sure Viper Bite does more dmg per a WS but lately I've been grouping with alot of Sam's and I'll WS with their Kegero (sp) their fire based WS and I WS about 2 X per a Thf 1 X and 2 Raging fists > 1 viper bite + average hit is higher. Thf might outdamage you WS vs WS but they hit like a whm outside of sneak. Can't expect to be better then everyone or everyone would be a Mnk.^^
did you buy kote if not how did you manage to get it. or what lvl you need to be to solo the mob that drops it i realy need that right now. i'm working one getting the jujitsu gi, life belt and a lvl 50 weaponn with +10 attaks and -10 def gona take a whyle but i'm not going to lvl beyond 50 with out them. ochiudo's kote i wana no what lvl i need to be to get it and the rate the mob drops it.

The NM that drops the Kote is perhaps the most camped NM I've ever seen, except for maybe Hoo Mojo the Torrent. I forget the exact name but he is somewhere in Castle Oz. Last time I checked, he was camped by at least 20 people. Those kote sell for upwards of 450k on Midgard, so I can understand why. Right now I'm saving up for life belt, and then just going with my AF. I'm not going to spend 400k on gloves, I might as well save for Cross-Counters.

              accuracy/etc

I'm a Hume MNK too and due to so many misses I've gone the DEX/Accuracy route as well. Think I'm around +14 DEX and +14 Accuracy in items iirc. I still miss too much though

Just some other random comments from this thread:

Kote at 450k on Seraph and if you dont have a T3 line in NA you wont beat a japanese camper with 10 ping on the provoke. Would really like to personally thank the S-E guy who made the decision not to have dedicated NA servers every time I try to camp a static NM for an item I would use. Waiting for AF3 personally, til then RSE Hume gloves are very nice.

Jujitsu Gi, Davoi, "Poisonhand" Orc. Be wary, at 52 I'm not sure if I could have soloed this guy. He is a monk and uses 100 Fists. It was a hard fight even with a Whm friend with me. Currently at 150k on Seraph (my server economy sucks).

I'm not so sure about the double attack working with Raging Fists. Although the damage does seem to vary, just yesterday I got a miss on the RF WS. This was with Focus too.

I was in a PT with a Thief friend of mine the day before yesterday, he was one lvl below me.
My Raging Fists did about 100 damage less than his Sneaked & Tricked Viper Bite,
but I could obviously do RF more during a fight (though doing so would mean my death. ._.)
I used focus very rarely during that PT, iirc.
                Rude, but not wrong. ;x

I bought kote but I also camped the NM for awhile and was able to beat the jpn people until a sam/war showed up that just owned me every spawn. A thf and I camped it that night..together we killed mea the punisher about 10 times only getting knuckles. The area you camp is slightly larger then the inside of your mog house and about 5-15 people trying to beat you. I bought mine for about 355k they sell for ave 380-390 on kujata right now. I killed the NM solo at 44. The fuma NM was actually harder and yeah the Davoi one slaughtered me, leave him alone. ;p

P.S. I use focus and berserk during RF and the other day I poped a 875 damage running around the glacier, think it was a tiger. And life belt is lvl 48.

Bought my Ochiudo's Kote for 305,000 gil, which definitely sounds like a good deal compared to other servers! Currently tooling around with 178 ATK (39+16 str) unbuffed at level 38, and damn is it nice.

BTW, when camping for contested NMs a little trick you can do is to set up a macro like:

                      /targetnpc
                      /ja "Provoke" <t>

This might get you the claim. Doesnt work on all spawns, Leaping Lizzie for example since its outdoor and random places in an area. Works ok for static dungeon spawns though.

Prob best with provoke since Chi Blast has such a long refresh time and you dont want to blow it on a spawn thats not the NM or placeholder.

                          DPS = Damage Per Second

At the end of a battle you look at how much total damage the MNK has done, and divide that by how long the battle was (in seconds).

MNK typically have one of the highest DPS ratings in the game.

Well, I was in a group with a bard when I got Raging Fists, so my experiences with it may be a bit skewed (madrigal + minuet work wonders), but my 5-hit raging fists did around 450-460 damage when all 5 hits landed (vs. goblins/flies in Gustav), if I was berserked (high 300s if I wasn't). My first raging fists, disappointingly, was a 300% one-hitter for like 103 damage ^^. Pre-48, Focus JA is pretty much a must before you Raging Fists, I'd say, even as a mithra with +7 accuracy in gear at level 41 I'd say my average # of hits without it is only 3 (which still isn't bad, that means you're doing the same damage as you would with Combo).

I love this WS though...the name is cool, the way it looks is cool, and the damage it does is fantastic.
