People really don't know what they are talking about... I am a lev 62 dragoon atm and I am far from being gimped. Having a best freind who is a drk (lv 62 also) we pt together all the time. As far as normal hits go we do 2-6 damage apart from one another. I usually get more hits in with my jump attacks and lower weapon delay. Not to mention the extra 30-40 damage my wyvern is adding. His Guillatiene does around 500-900 on IT mobs while my penta thrust does 250-500 + 80-150 breath attacks, but we are almost evenly matched when it comes to overall damage. We both have the best gear mind you at our levs. As for samurai I pted with a lev 63 last night and I am afraid to say I did at least 15 more damage than normal regular hits and 150-200 more with penta thrust than his Tachi: Jinpu or Tachi: Yakuzi (sp?). He also had full AF and the best gear on. I guess my point being as DRG can hold their own with other damage dealers if they spend the cash and have the patience to play their job correct.
I do see a glimmer of hope in the future though. Our ultimate weapon lance is unglodly good D100 Accuracy +20 added WS ??? and def down effect. That is 3 less damage than Damage than Dark's ultimate scythe and has a better effect. If this built in WS is at all decent it will fix the class completely. Hope this sheds some light on all those "jump on the DRG sucks badwagon" without seeing one in action.

DRK/THF vs DRG/WAR, I wonder which one does more damage. The fact that he can do comparable damage (and outdamage you in the case of WS) to you with a THF sub instead of WAR attests to the fact that DRG just do not cut it. Also, just for the sake of being argumentative: what race is he. Elvaan DRG is arguably the best combo for DRG because of DRG's natural accuracy and Elvaan's natural strength. Please tell me the DRK wasn't a taru, hume, or mithra. If he was, it points to the fact that DRG sucks even more…

level 60-65 drg is not so gimped compared to drk... i hear it's more post 65 when drk attains crossreaper/spinslash when things go horribly wrong in the damage dealing department unless you are drk or mnk.

With drk's obvious advantage established, please let it end here

It goes downhill at 65 because Wheeling Thrust is so damn weak - low damage, misses often enough to be annoying, and I swear it does LESS damage the higher your tp is, must be some rollover past 200 because logically more tp = more defense ignored = more damage dealt, at least that would be assumed. Sure 60-65 its ok since Skewer is respectable damage usually.

Impulse Drive is baffling to me. Grouping in Dragon's Aery it was usually doing more damage than Cross Reaper especially vs flies (obviously), sometimes vs spiders. The damage range is 300-700 or so vs IT and seems fairly TP dependant, although even if I manage 200 tp a fight consistantly, the damage is still pretty random even with both hits landing, usually averaging 300-500.

After playing with it enough, the TP nerf isn't that atrocious, it just made melee boring as hell to play. And of course Penta loses all its flare over level 60. The biggest penalty it had was on farming honestly. Considering I rarely got to group with bards, the extra damage from Penta was basically non existant since I didn't bother risking 3 hit Pentas and making the fights last longer. Only time I used Penta was when I was grouped with a bard and tp gain was substantially better.

Ayako posted in another thread the job isn't really substantially worse now, and he is right, though the tp nerf did remove a possibility of higher sustained damage in a fight, if you weren't grouped with a bard it was likely to only be worth doing a skillchain and thats it. The job still has the same itemization/ws issues (ok, you know its obvious S-E is completely out of touch when the new equipment set for DRG/SAM, Gavial armor, is 99% worthless. Who would buy that shit when you can just buy Dusk..). Though the stigma attached to DRG certainly has its effect on the amount of group invites I get. I've been 71 for 2 weeks now, my equipment isn't bad and I play pretty regularly.

The biggest problem with melee at the high end is Spirits Within being the best WS for most of the harder HNM. Talk about idiotic design.

But overall, I'll have to agree with your stigma comment. People give DRGs a bad rap and don't invite them to PTs before even trying them out in their PTs to see how well they do.

And for the most part, HNMs are unappealing to me, so I don't really mind being useless in most of the fights. Standing around with 50 other people trying to force a Behemoth spawn is all to entirely lame in my opinion.

First of all, we're not dmg dealers. We're dmg enablers.

Second of all, full af blows chunks. Haubergeon or even Royal Knights armor is far better than Myochin Domaru (body AF), even though you have to go through hell in Temple of Uggalepih to get it.

Third of all, we're not THAT far behind, even tho we ARE behind.
ppl tend to forget that sams renkei twice per fight.

End yeah, drg doesn't suck. They are just a bit harder to level during the pentaspamlevels now. Sneak+Wheeling Thrust > Sharkbite + MB = Mob go to died.

(Edit: Wait for Tachi: Gekko... it's so close. Soooo close now... I can taste the blade rushing through the air... Mwa ha ha ha....)

Gavial armor is nothing compared to the dusk set but it's far cheaper.Farming for all that dusk gear will take days or maybe even weeks.

I myself would love to have the dusk set However,the slow speed is really a turn off especially if you end up being the puller.If not,i guess it's not important since you stand there and just whack away at monsters.

Still,what I really want to see if this new gungnir lance which is simply awesome.Insane accuracy bonus and a weaken defense effect.Wow,this is like the ultimate reward for sticking with the job.To bad 99% of dragoon will never be able to make it that far to wield it.I hope I am one of those in the 1% :sweat:

OK i have to set things straight about DRG's.
-Yes, we B*tch.
-Yes, we moan.
-Yes, we dont have the toughest armor.
-Yes, we stuggle in melee fights with the DRK's and WAR's and what ever other fighting class (to the party eye*)

My GOD!!!

57 DRG i am and im damn proud. In a party with chat filters your party teamates only see your attacks.. NOT your wyverns. For many many many many... (you get the point) battales i would watch and write down my damage + wyvern damage vs DRK damage and MNK damage and SAM damage in the many PT's i have been in.

MNK'sat lvl 55 have 2 hits or (1 ATK session) for every 1.8 Wyvern attacks. A MNK's atk session is not much faster than my Holy Lance i use. So if a MNK hits a Boyada Tree Crab "IT" for 30 and 34 damage on average. My lance will also hit between 60-80 average, + 2 hits from wyvern for a total of an additional 20-30 damage.

Same thing for DRK's and any other fighting class. The Wyvern isn't useless. Spirit Link really helps and isn't a bother for a WHM with over 500 or 600 MP to cast 1 cure3 on ya or a regen. Fighting in Boyada Tree and Crawlers Nest my wyvern damages between 12-23 not counting criticle hits for 28-34. Thats just in 1 hit!. Now for all you DUMB none DRG melee players out there wip out your little calculator and do the damn math....

12-23 x2 = 24 -46 damage on top of the 1 hit you see your fellow DRG do. which scares ya cause its pretty damne close to your own!!!!

On average with adding just 1 of my wyverns hits to mine sense he hits 2 times for every 1 of my swings i hit for 80-100 damage on IT mobs in a very very tough place. Boyada Tree crabs of all things!

Im sick of people who try drg then bash it. If your a true Dragoon Knight you'll fight and tough it out till the end. I'll admit it; I cried when they nerfed Penta but in a EXP PT i never use it anyways. The demand is for Raiden Thrust, or Vorpal.. (At my lvl 57)

i have yet to find any Melee that can keep up to me in damage and i dont even have all the godly gear *Sniper Rings, peacock necklace, ect, ecy* None of those!!! Just plain Dex rings and a life belt with AF Boots, Leggings, Gloves.

So for anyone reading this post if you need a boost in confidence listen to this....

Everyone loves them. Yes they had a bad rap but people cant not give them the credit they deserve. There are tons of people lvl 70+ with DRG and they are there because of the hard work. DRG is a fun job and someday they will fix our wyverns so they wont look so boring. But for everything else. DRG's Rock.

Meaning to say...

"You can not walk around and NOT find a DRG."

Meaning everyone loves them. everyone trys them. There are tons of both JP and EN players out there with lvl 70+ Drg's who obviously like them. and i know friends who are in all JP Linkshells who says that in his linkshell all the people there have at least a lvl 60 DRG cause JP's find the AF armor sweet and fun to play.

To add in about the whole lvl 65+ we get screwed on damage. Well obviously i haven't made it that far yet but i wont get disgeraged... Im wanting to lvl DRG to 70 if not all the way to 75. I like the though of being able to walk anywhere i choose and just jumping on a mob and killing it instantly hahahaha!!!!
