Galkas: What's the point?

I've said this in I don't know how many threads.

As far as I'm concerned each PLD race has their place.
I'm going to work with the extremes here and you guys can fill in.

Hard hitting double attack mobs, especially those with killer single hit attacks (like scorpions) are better left to Galka PLD. Why? We have more VIT, more HP, and a bit more STR to hopefully get the monster dead faster.

A Taru PLD tanking the same mob would be near death for almost the whole fight given their weak HP pool. Sure they can cure a lot, but if they mis-time their cure's once, they're dead. I know, I've been in a party with myself and a taru PLD.

Light hitting mobs with loads of HP and defense? I'd take a Taru PLD over me anyday. They have the larger MP pools to last in long drawn out battles. If they're not getting murdered HP wise.

All the other races fit in there too.

Therefore, every PLD race is fine, each also has special scenarios where they excel.

Galka do NOT suck as a PLD, come join my party and I'll show you.

And in regards to Galka sucking at everything else needing MP.

I don't care how many things you read, and how well you know the numbers. Play a Galka, then come back and talk to me.

Hmfp, post 41 MP won't be as much of a concern anyway, if you have a RDM Refreshing.

And Neosoul, just when was I saying that Taru's make worse mages than a Galka? I'm just stating that Galka's can be good Mages too. It's not impossible!

actually i was really ticked off when i found that elvaan and to a lesser degree mithra/hume make better drks then galka, since by the story (zeid) i thought that was the job galka was meant to be.

You're smoking something.

One could make a solid argument for Elvaan, although Galka have more stat advantages across the board as DRK, not to mention being much cooler-looking in various high-level plate, chain, and AF But for the other two, no way.

Being a Galkan Dark Knight, I do about 2-3 less damage than an Elvaan per swing and I hit slightly more (1 or 2 hits per battle). I really don't have a problem with MP because I don't use Elemental magic often unless finishing a mob off quickly. For the most part I use the Dark Magic spells: Bio, Drain, Aspir and the Absorb spells. We definetly make good DRK's I can assure you of that.

And whoever said that Galka's suck at anything involving MP, you need to go back to FFXI Basics 101. Sure, alone we are the worst MP. However, with great equipment (not to mention $$$) we can become good Mages. Not great, but good. Of course we'll never match a Taru Mage, but we can still be effective. Just last night I was XPing my Monk in Yhoator and we had a Japanese Galkan WHM. At level 27, he had 335 MP. Not bad eh? Of course he payed out his ass for all his equipment. Two Astral Rings and all clothing was +1 to give more MP. Also used Pineapple Juice and Melon Pies. Costs a lot but you can be a good Mage as a Galka as long as you are willing to shell out the money for it.

err Emeka, how does your damage on Souleater compare to Elvaan on Souleater? Also im wondering, around lvl 50 did you go for sniper or astral rings?

I hit for on average 50 more than Elvaan with same equipment, same food using Soul Eater.

And I have Sniper Rings. Accuracy > MP for a DRK.

That's strange, I have an elvaan friend who constantly brags about how he hit harder then Galkas. I never understood why, but maybe it's because Galkas do the same thing about Elvaans.

I've never seen a Galka that can hit harder then me and I'm an elvaan warrior.

I wish people would stop judging by race...
You can be a damned good paladin with any race.

There's loads of Taru DRK's on my server that kick ass, yet they are probably one of the worst choices for the job.
Race doesnt play as big a part as people seem to think, i reckon you should just choose whatever race you like the best.

My main is hume female, because i like hume female.
Not because hume is the most balanced race.
I couldnt give a damn if a Taru has 40 more MP than me, i play how i like, and Taru is not how i like to play personally.

That being said, half of the game is about GEAR anyway, despite the people who constantly brag its all about skill.. its really not.
Some jobs are high maintenance, some are low maintenance, but none really require "skill".
Skill is what i would consider a rare thing when one person is exceptionally good at doing something when compared to others.
ANYONE can play any job in this game extremely well without requiring true skill, its just getting used to playing your character, and taking the time to read up on strategies etc.

Knowledge and Gear is what this game is all about...

You people play this game not for fun but for what people think is "best".

But if a Galka is in my party for some reason I feel safe cause they are so big :D
