• How to Join PT / Game Manners (with JP Players)

I hope most of importers know this by now, but FFXI, just like any community, has certain manners, rules, and culture that every player should know.

Even though many importers cannot speak japanese very well, that does not give one the right to simply go up to a player (or even worse, use /shout) and ask "yo, do you speak english?" or "hey, dude, PT PT!!". (Not that anyone here would actually do such a thing~)

In any event, the following "tutorial" on how to form/ask for PT is so well-written, I thought I would cross-post it here.

It was done by Melanie, an old member of the Neogundan LS.

Ideally, you would want to write things in hiragana/kanji if possible, but if not, then romanization like the below would still be MUCH better than just using English in PT conversations (especially considering that some players use the kind of English that even native English speakers don't understand ^_^)

Anyway, hope you find this useful!

--------------------------
Start Your Party
Basic Party Forming Converstation and Short-hand

I find the following most effective in getting people to join you:
/t <t> [Job] desu, isshoni reberu agemasuka?
I am a [Job], shall we raise lvl together

[job]
war senshi
blm kuroi
whm shiroi
rdm akai
thf shi-fu
mnk monnku

dak annkoku
pal naito
brd shijin
rng karyuudo
bst keimonotsukai

With more then one person
/t <t> [Jobs] desu, isshoni reberu agemasuka?

Senshi, shiroi to kuroi no PT desu, isshoni reberu agemasuka?
(We are a) Warrior,White and Black Party, shall we raise lvl together?

Positive Response:
onegaishimasu - Please
iidesuyo - Good idea
kamaigaarimasen - There is no reason why we should not
gomennne, mouhitotsu sasotte kudasai
- Sorry, can u invite again

Use the following to quickly invite them
/pcmd add <r>

Negative Response:
gomennne ..... - Usuallly a reason is given

Use the following to response (even if you dont know what they are saying)
/t <r> ryoukai, matatsugi ne
Understand (your situation), (maybe) next time

When someone just joined, you can say
/p yoroshiku, hokanohito sasotte imasu
Glad to have you, looking for others

When the Complete Party is formed you can say
/p yokatta ne, minasann yoroshiku
Done, Glad to have you(everybody)

I would advise that you pass the leadership to another:
/p watashi no nihonngo madaheta desu
My Japanese is still bad
/p .......sann ri-da-ni onegaishimasu
......, can u take over as leader

The following are some possble discussion that will follow:
renkei - Combo
kaifuku - Healing
doko - Where

Use the following to help seach for party members
/sea 290 whm
search for white mage lvl 29-30 in current area

/sea LowJeuno 290 whm
search for white mage lvl 29-30 in Lower Jeuno

If you suspect a party is being form u can say
/t <t> [Job] desu, anatagata no PT, iretekudasai
Can I join your Party?

There u go, my two cents worth of contribution

When search range of level you can use - instead of <.
For example:
- Search for WHM level 35-40 in same area
/sea whm 35-40

- Search for BLM level 35 in all area
/sea all blm 35

- Search for WHM level 57 or higher that open for PT in all area
/sea all inv whm 57-

- Search for all job level 15-20 that open for PT in all area
/sea all inv 15-20

Also, learn how your name is written in Japanese.

If your name sounds very much like a Japanese name (e.g. Takato, Eiketsu) most of the time people will call you by the Katakana translation of your name, or even Hirakana translation of your name.

If your name can be easily translated (e.g. common English first names, or names that contain only short syllables with vowels, like Be-be-ta-ro), usually they will write your name in Katakana form.

Know how you name is written in Japanese so you know they are talking to you.

ok ok, i have a really big question, i went to one of those sites that translates what u write, and when i type the phrases up above into the translation box and hit the space bar twice a list comes up, which i know is normal, but what i dont know is which translation are we suppose to use?? cause i used every single one and they didnt make too much sense....the one that made the most sense translated into " level it lifts togethor??" or something like that...so when we're in game which one do we translate it to, and how do we know??

thnx in advance guys

The use of "ne"

I would just like to point out that "ne" when ending a sentence is reserved mainly for females. This roughly translates to "dont you agree?" Segawa kun told me that most males use "daro" but I have never seen this in use except with Segawa kun, so Im not too sure about "daro." I am sure with "ne" because Sawako chan, confirmed it for me when I was playing word games with her as well as Segawa kun. We called it Word Attack, because you had to say a word that started with the last letter of the word said by the other player. This not only helped them practice pronunciation, but also spelling. It was very much fun. So remember, if you a girl, use "ne" when you want to know if they agree. If your a boy... umm.. use "daro" at your own risk? =P

romaji: sumimasenn, totsuzenn ni taisetsu na kotoga aru kara, watashiha ochisoudesu ; ;

Means: Sorry, something came up all of a sudden, I gotta go now ; ;

Recently, a lot of controversy has been stirred up about disrespect of the members of the LS, mostly due to the members not knowing what to say to the party and simply logging out. This sentence should help prevent this from happening as much. Make sure you get a response. Usually, JP players are nice and will let you go. If they refuse to let you go, however...

After you get an affirmative, say ?¡‚±‚±‚É‚¨‚¿‚Ü‚· if you plan on logging off right there and then. Then they'll know they won't have to take you back to town. It's important that you say this or else they might keep waiting for you thinking you've dropped.

Can someone check my grammar on that one?

At the very very least, if you can't say it in Japanese, say it in English, don't keep it to yourself. Besides, you never know if you're playing with a Japanese person or a foreigner speaking Japanese

In response to grammar check requested by Awntawn:
Phrase: ‚·‚݂܂¹‚ñ?A“Ë‘R‚É‘å?؂Ȏ–‚ª?E‚é‚©‚ç?AŽ„‚Í—Ž‚¿‚»‚¤‚Å‚·; ;
Literal: Sorry, there's an important something, my connection might be dropped;;
Alternative: ‚à‚¤‚µ‚킯‚_‚è‚Ü‚¹‚ñ?A‹}—p‚ª‚Å‚«‚Ä‚µ‚Ü‚¢‚Ü‚µ‚½‚Ì‚Å?A—Ž‚¿‚È‚¯‚ê‚΂¢‚¯‚Ü‚¹‚ñ?G?G
Translation: I'm really sorry, but an emergency has come up, and I have to logout;;

Phrase: ?¡‚±‚±‚É‚¨‚¿‚Ü‚·
Literal: I will fall here
Alternative: ?¡?A‚±‚±‚Å—Ž‚¿‚Ü‚·
Translation: I will logout here right now

Awntawn's phrases will probably work fine, however some people might misunderstand you =)

One thing, how do you say "Sorry, but i dont know Kanji"
I can translate Kana and Hana(<--I think Hana is the shortened way of saying that) pretty easily but i dont know one thing of Kanji.
So for a side note, when you guys are saying phrases for certain stuff could you please give the romanji part also so we who dont know Kanji will know what to type to get it into Kanji.(that made since didnt it, lol)
