Re: Windows 7 and FFXI
ouch... hate those gobs ;p
but yeah I think it might just be drivers, mine looked fine when I was messing with it, but to be honest, I was not paying atention to much on how it really looked. Just that it looked "fine" ;p

yeah, i've got it running, but it's looking rather bleh.Originally posted by Kailea View PostI had FFXI working perfectly o W7, only thing was Windower does not work
one sec, i'll try to snip and show you what i mean...

I mean, with a radeon hd 4800 i'm sure it should be getting rid of those damned jagged edges. although, looking at it now, it's not a bad snip. i guess they're more noticeable when i am moving around and the like. anywho, i used to play on a substantially weaker gfx card back years ago and it was as smooth as ever. my guess is that it's just the driver issues, but being as how i've not used vista/windoes 7 long, i dunno for sure.
actually, as far as i know, it could just be some stupid setting in the config tool. /sigh/
also, gob tinkerer got me while i was typing. : (

The prerelease driver for the card actually worked fine, except for the aa and af. I'm just kind of wondering if anyone has had any progress with the game on 7, in regards to a video card working.

Re: Windows 7 and FFXI

We're hard at work, I would say, on the next version, which we call Windows 7. I'm very excited about the work being done there. The ability to be lower power, take less memory, be more efficient, and have lots more connections up to the mobile phone, so those scenarios connect up well to make it a great platform for the best gaming that can be done, to connect up to the thing being done out on the Internet, so that, for example, if you have two personal computers, that your files automatically are synchronized between them, and so you don't have a lot of work to move that data back and forth.
Just in beta, the underlined statement is true, so cant wait to see full release, and I will be upgrading as soon as it comes out.
I hvve never installed FFXI that fast before, even on a HDD that ranked lower then the one I am using in Vista....

Let me google that for youOriginally posted by Malacite View PostBack on topic, other than the beta being out (or out soon whatever) are there any specific details about it? I still say Vista is a fine O.S. (not perfect but better than XP) but I'm curious as to how much better Windows 7 will be (and why call it Windows 7? wtf?)

Likewise, only for me it was Diablo 2 >_>Originally posted by TheGrandMom View PostAh ME....the memories.......I smashed a keyboard because of that OS and I'm an extremely patient person...
Offtopic I know but you made me think of that particular moment... I have never smashed anything I own in a fit of rage, ever. But that particular instance just drove me over the edge >_>
Was trying to get my god damned body back in act 2 on Hell difficulty (playing lv 80-ish sorceress) but I kept on f'ing dieing. After about 20 minutes and nearly all my gold (and about 1/4 of my EXP @_@) I finally killed everything and recovered my corpse... only to discover all of my items were gone. I don't think I'd ever been that pissed off by a game before in my life, and I've dealt with some real fucking morons online...

I could care less about a new OS just yet to be perfectly honest. I'd rather see them get to work on making I.E. not suck complete balls. I will give M$ major props for One Care though. Holy crap, best anti-virus software EVER.

Nice, as soon as I'm done digging for old pieces I'm going to put together a test rig to try beta.

they do work, but the exe installer would not since it's Windows 7, it could not tell it was Windows. but after changeing compatibly to Vista it worked

THey added a "show desktop" button in the bottom right corner next to the clock, and its unlabeled.
There is a fun little built in too called "Snipping Tool"
it lets you "snip" a screen shot off the screen
Here is an example of a snip I took real fast

______________________________
Windows performance assessment can go up to 7.9 now
Vista scores
CPU: 5.9
RAM: 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Game: 5.9
HDD: 5.3
W7 scores
CPU: 7.1
RAM: 5.9
Graphics: 7.9
Game: 6.2
HDD: 1.9 (using different HDD)
once I get everything installed, I am goign to make an image of the install with everything setup, and place it on the better HDD (one from Vista test)
so I can test this properly
....oddly enough, everything is installing lightning fast, even though this HDD, has a lower rating then the other one.
