Re: Over 9000... er... ok, Over level 75 - New cap 99 o.o
Wow. I just heard about this somewhere else, and I'm shocked. I really thought they would leave it at 75...
Part of me wants to come back now because of the new stuff, but part of me is determined not to because it was hard enough getting to 75. I can't imagine grinding to 99... I was one of those players who only took one job past 37.
EDIT: I wonder if things like the end-tier CoP missions will still be uncapped... I have yet to finish Apocalypse Nigh, which is something I always wanted to do. That would certainly make it easier...

Anything DKP related will always bring drama. Thats the nature of the system.

I've passed on a hole shitload of stuff in my time in endgame so that others could have things. The piece I wanted the most was my rdm af2 hat........and I even passed on that! TWICE! But when I'd lot something instead of letting it drop to the ground, I was a loot whore. I'd be at 95% of events...seriously, even sacrificing rl issues. But miss an event and I was doing it on purpose...I didn't want so and so to get this or that drop. (I was usually a key member since I was a healer/buffer which we were always short on.)
But I will say that I've seen this behavior in endgame in more than a few MMO's that I've played. A % of people just get like this. It's always nice to be in a successful shell because you get to do things and get drops but then there is the down side. You just can't have one without the other. I don't see this changing in FFXIV or any other MMO with endgame mobs/drops.
Hell, I'd probably do things like Dynamis and Sky much more often if I knew I didn't have to let a million people go ahead of me before I got my stuff. Long story short, it's a hell of a lot more fun when everyone gets something so you just have to focus on getting the job done and having fun instead of who gets what or has X points to lot on Y item.

Re: Over 9000... er... ok, Over level 75 - New cap 99 o.o
Also the fact that you needed like 40 people for some shit in WoW was the biggest turn off to me. Because half of them won't listen/think they know what they're doing (but don't) and about a quarter of the people have no clue at all and no one will explain because you're somehow expected to know what to do, and the other 25% are actually competent. People run off in 50 different directions (which I realize is hard with 40 people, but they manage) and it's just a bitch to coordinate. Maybe in organized guilds it's better, but even in FFXI with big Dynamis shells it always seemed like getting people to follow along and listen and pay attention was a bitch and a half, whereas we were going into Xarc with 22 sometimes and absolutely destroying shit and playing with actual coordination. Screw taking on PW with 50 damn people like Apathy, I'd rather go after Omega with 12 and call it a night.
Granted it had some to do with the fact that we were all exceptionally well geared, but still. I much prefer things that can be 6-manned to things that you need a main alliance and a sub alliance for. Hell, I even preferred Dynamis-Tav because it was just one ally. I hated that you needed so many goddamn people to do a lot of endgame shit in WoW.

75SMN/COR/BRD (Super Buffer)
omg... Garuda's Favor (+eva) + Hastega + Evoker's Roll + w/e with BRD
or even SMN/BRD/COR = Ifrit's Favor (Double Attack) + Warcry + Valor Minuet III + Chaos Roll. (Ultimate Melee DD buff?)
It would be crazy.... I have to admit

But every shell has their flaws I suppose, and what works for some won't work for others. It took me a few endgame shells before I found one that fit, unfortunately by that point all my friends were quitting and SE decided to ban my mule, which pissed me off.

WoW talks a big game about being able to solo and being less grindy - but its endgame does require loads of people. WoW is fine if you're just a solo and PvP player, but if you want to do the engame PVE stuff its just as problematic as any other MMO on the market in that regard.
I think SE might be looking at lowering the numbers needed to do things. Based on how they're rescaling the levels now, Dynamis is going to require less people. You'll probably still have to stay on your toes, but needing a second alliance or even a full alliance may be a thing of the past. Limbus you could low man some parts to start with, now you might be able to do even more there.
Depending upon how powerful level 99 makes you, that could also change how high level content is done. SE may keep with a low-man approach since it has proven successful in existing parts of the game now.
I mean, ya gotta admit, when you did Ouryu with friends in CoP or a boss in Nyzul, its a blast and a formidable fight, if they can bring that to high level play and keep it low man, great.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 03-02-2010, 12:05 PM.

Re: Over 9000... er... ok, Over level 75 - New cap 99 o.o
For realz TGM,
I just recently got into, arguably, the best endgame shell I've ever been in, and I also just recently quit it. The players were on point, and I hadn't seen dynamis zones cleared with greater efficency. Einherjar was so easy bard rotations weren't even used, and they claim every HNM on the server that they attempt to camp.
I felt that If i was with them another 6 months I would have gotten my e.body, and my n.head/legs, and some great gear from the fomor kings, and i'd be well on the way to getting zeni mob drops etc. But I couldn't put up with dealing with the attitude that the leader had.
I mean this guy is 21, his mother pays for his house that he lives in, he has drop/failed out of comunity college 3 times, and dosen't even have a drivers liscense. He talks to his members like their "his", and he didn't seem to care about items going to people that wouldn't even(DRG0 = congrat's on your v. fork) use them, unless it was something that affected him directly. In the 30ish days i was with the shell, I litterly saw some of the most dedicated players quit, and come back 2-3 days later, and I don't know why...
I want that ubber piece of gear just as much as the next one, and i'll atleast level Dnc/Blm/Thf/Rdm/Smn/Bst to 99, but I'll be damned if I am going to let someone talk to me like i'm a stupid dog that pissed on the carpet, when I make a mistake, especially one that has no difference in the outcome of an event, or an HNM battle.
I love all things Final Fantasy, except for alot of the other people that also love Final Fantasy.

BLU is not RDM. Suggesting leveling BLU because of issues (real or imagined) with RDM just plain stupid.
