  • Dual Wield question

Ok so now I have obtained a big piece of my Melee RDM kit - Justice Sword.

I will be Dual Wielding JSword and Joyeuse....

Is there any difference in which I mainhand/offhand?

My resident PLD said offhand weapons get a damage reduction % set...?

I mean, there's only 1 dmg difference between the 2 swords, just wanted some clarification.

    Thanks!

IF any of this is wrong someone correct me.

I think that you should main hand the sword with the most dmg since that is what is used for ws.
    Thanks Kazuki.

      Re: Dual Wield question

You should always mainhand the weapon with the higher damage. Skoal is correct; weaponskills are (generally) performed with the main hand weapon. When dual wielding, multihit weaponskills gain one additional hit attempt, this time with the off-hand weapon.

If you are dual wielding Justice Sword and Joyeuse, most definitely main hand the Joyeuse, unless the target is resistant to piercing damage (skeletons, for instance). There are subtle differences between Joyeuse and Justice Sword.

      Joyeuse:

      Requires no additional gear
Deals Piercing damage instead of Slashing damage (rapier-type sword)
Can not trigger Double Attack traits or abilities with Joyeuse

      Justice Sword:

Requires Virtue Stones to activate its multi-hit latent
Deals slashing damage like most swords
Double attack traits and gear CAN trigger while using Justice Sword*

*This last bit might be important for you if you're using a multihit WS like Savage Blade and have some form of Double Attack available, in which case it might be preferable to main hand the Justice Sword over the Joyeuse.

        Thanks guys, crystal.

I will be using Savage Blade mostly. Is that reason enough to mainhand Justice? I mean, the over damage lost by doing that vs the % of DA procing on WS?

I don't really know. I'd have to go in-game and try it myself, but I haven't learned Savage Blade yet (though is easier to test with, say, Fast Blade).

I don't know whether Justice Sword's weird double attack proc will trigger on multihits the same way standard DA like Joyeuse's will. Would be an interesting test.

Just another note on Joytoy. It does piercing on melee hits and slashing on physical weaponskills.
            Thanks Kazuki.

So no dmg bonus on WS's then...

Is it also true that when Dual Wielding, if either weapon has + Critical hit% it only applies to the hand it's in and doesn't stack together? A few people have told me this, and yet every NIN I see (or just about) at 70+ dual wields critical hit weapons.

Yeah, damage types for weaponskills are locked in by type. Swords and katanas are slashing, daggers and polearms are piercing, h2h is blunt, regardless of whether you're using an alternate damage type weapon or Formless Strikes.

                    Pretty sure you meant slashing.

I've read that PLD/NINs will mainhand Justice and offhand Joy because Justice Swords' double attack can proc during a WS while Joyeuse's DA won't.

That seems to be the prevailing wisdom (+crit % won't cross over from offhand to mainhand). The reason you still see so many NINs still using two Katanas with +crit % is because melee damage is a big part of their overall damage (and the +crit % on the offhand will help half of their melee damage). Not to mention Fudo is cheap and easy to get. If Perdu Blade were easier to get, you might see more NINs doing Senj/Perdu instead of Senj/Fudo.

Ok, just so I have this straight, +crit offhand gives you +crit when hitting with that weapon but +crit on offhand doesn't mean anything to main hand because it's not applied as a character trait.

I guess its kinda like have a weapon with added effect: stun. The only weapon that is going to stun is the one with the mod on it.
