dorien, are you really hachy cause you sure seem to blindly believe him tho he offered no proof and made unsubstaniated claims, as well as not making that much sense, (Why would a man guaranteed to be on, study the beta test page and be so concerned with it) i mean truly you ve seemed to be acting like a yes man. If your not hachi i must say you seem like he has takin control of your mind. And as far as the childish factor? come on we dissent from what he said, it is possible in theory he could be right.nothing he said is completely incredulous, but he does have the ring of a faker, 43 posts, poorly titled posts designed to get people to look at his story. no proof from any real sources. and the infinite claim, oh i know someone at square.
it is my distinct belief most the people these guyts talk to on phone at square don t know anything about what goes on anyway.
Truthfully we ll all know soon, and even if it closes today it won t prove the most unsubstaniated things that he said. Really 2 weaks from site opening is as good a day as any to close beta application acceptance. hope hes right about that tho heh. i just don t believe in him

I dunno much about all this beta stuff, but I had a thought that might be worth considering..

I was looking at the Horizons' beta (another MMORPG, yet to be released) and noted that they had stopped accepting beta applicants, but left the beta sign up, and application process up, for over a month now; supposedly for the second phase of beta.

While another game's beta processes might not seem interestnig, it raises the question, what if today they just stop taking applications for this phase of beta, and leave the thing up so no one can really tell if it closed or not?

The point being, Hachima could well be right, and we wouldn't know. Personally, considering all these possibilities only serves to fray already stressed nerves....but some people seem to like exaiming every silly detail, so I thought I'd throw that one in.

u gotta remember 2 different companies... square, when doing the jap beta, closed the beta applications and sent the letters via email.... keeping the application process open would just cause more problems for square at this point. its almost been 2 weeks to the day, and leaving it open but in actuallity closing it would be pointless and it would anger people who wanted to sign up late.

i hope he is right, but im not getting my hopes sky high.. i mean props to him if hes right, but i doubt square would keep it open and concider it closed. that means, more applications to throw out more space to waste on their site etc. etc. not a wise buisness move. and lets face it, they are in it for our money

regradless of the extreme high quality games they produce

Err, rereading my post, I see that I was not clear in what I was meaning.

I didn't mean to say that they would just leave the application thing up, and have it going to wasted space. I meant they would have the applications that people would put into, be going tward the second phase of the beta.

As in, there would be the first phase of the beta (the one most of us has signed up for) to which they might stop taking applications for today. And then applications sent in to them after they stop taking apps. for the first beta phase, would be sent to the second beta pool.

Yes, of course this is all very elaborate assumptions about the how's and why's of the ffxi beta process. And yes, it is based on how a totally different company is doing things. But, like so many have said in the past, only square-enix knows how they are doing things...even people who claim to have inside information, are often faced with disbelief.

Anyways, just wanted to clarify....and like I said before, I don't really know anything about this beta stuff, I just thought I might share what I thought was a relevant consept, to this thread.

yeah, they wouldnt have need to keep it open. Only reason they would do that is for another phase of testing. And i dont believe any more phases are needed, seeing as the game is already tested and complete. All they really need is a stress/connectivity/translation test. (generally games arent tested for translation errors, if they are, its just the translators who look it over to make sure there wasnt any mistakes)

I just thought of a flaw in Hachima's statments, does he speak Japanese? Thats the only way he could have tested past Square games, and if so, why is he trying to get into the American beta, he should have already been in the Japanese Beta to his statements.

well you see if a game usually has 3 beta stages square-enix goes straight to the third one with NA's release of FFxi....which is stressing the servers with huge amounts of players...thats why i think there will be only one beta stage..........of course this is only my assomption....like you said only square knows 'bout square lol... *goes check e-mail again*

erm... this IS the last stage....

closed beta happened a while back. then open beta and now public beta... all that stuff u mentioned about holding applications happened before we even signed up


i just hope we find out soon, i hope more than anyone that he is right about today being the closing date

Yeah, thats a valid and reasonable point, you two have. But FFXI is square-enix's first online game, even if it wasn't necessary, they might find it prudent to further test it, for quality assurance, or some such nonsence. =)

Anyway, getting slightly back to the point - even if Hachima was wrong, it turned out to be an entertaining show.

the game was completed over a year ago, they wont change the quality for the american version. The beta application itself states its just a connectivity test even.

Well they still have time before today to take the application down.

And whether or not Hachima was telling the truth about the 24th, or not. He WAS correct about how the applications are taken, he was able to back that up with quotes from Square. So sorry to say but even if it does end today, not many of us, if ANY at all, will get in.
