    Re: Hi New to FFXI

for me I used to go around killing tigers for fangs (15k a stack now) and hides(1-3K each...but they don't stack). I was actually a decent living but it just wouldn't buy expensive gear. I used to run around Junger Forest and later Carpender's Landing to kill these guys...

      Re: Hi New to FFXI

I used to get a living off moat carps, which were, at one point in time, worth up to 16k a stack. Then idiots had to underprice it and guess what? In the course of a week or so, the price went down the 4k and I have never fished since. Considering the price of insect paste, which is at a stable price of 1k, and the fact that I get a moat carp for every 2 times I fish, the profit's just not there anymore.

Gotta love how people how no understand of the economy in this game...

        Re: Hi New to FFXI

beastmans blood seems to be pretty lucrative. We got about 6 vitals of beastmans blood in our time last night. I just got aggroed when my husband (meanmofo) was away doing something else. Things in the marshlands tend to link. Both times I was killed I was killing one thing and then was attacked by two gobs.
When you have three things hitting you, you cant even get off a cure spell.

Another question that i have is about macros. I have been trying to write macros but they wont work.
I was told to use something like this
        /ma wait 1 "cure" <t>
        and
        /ma wait 1 "cureII" <me>

<t> means whatever is in your command, you'll end up doing to the target. So you'll end up curing the mob most likely. A better macro for Cure 1 and Cure 2 would be:

          /ma "Cure II" <me>
/wait 4 (not sure about the casting time on it, but you'll want it to make it one second more than what it is)
          /ma "Cure" <me>

There you go. That macro should cure II yourself, then shortly afterwards, cure youself. Nifty, eh?

            Cool
How do I do spells for Mobs and also to cure other people?
Will the game accidentally let you cure a mob?

For mobs, just target them (you'll see their health bar above yours) and pretty much put a <t> at the end. For example:

              /ma "Fire" <t>

casts fire on whatever mob you're targeting.

As for curing other people in your party, do the same thing. Basically press up or down on your D-pad until the person you want to heal is targeted, then use a macro such as:

              /ma "Cure" <t>

PS I lied before....use /ma "Cure" <t> for all curing purposes. I believe that even though you target a mob, it will automatically revert to yourself. Go ahead and check me on that.

I was researching the whole gil selling thing earlier and I have a few more questions (really I do have a job ).
What is the penalty of buying gil? Why would you do that? i mean why spend real money on fake money?
how could you sell enough gil to make it a profitable business w/o SE catching you?

While gilbuying is not against the Terms of Service, gilselling is. There's no penalty at all, but for the game's purposes, it hurts the economy. You're free to do whatever you want, just don't tell us here.

I often ask the same question. But to other people, they often need more gil to buy a nice set of gear.

Discussion of that is forbidden. If you're looking into selling gil, I'd suggest not saying anything about it here.

                    Re: Hi New to FFXI

Trust me, I make a more than decent enough living to not have to sell gil. I am just trying to understand who has the time and energy to put into actually selling it. I am thinking that because it took us so long last night to make a small amount of gil. It doesnt seem profitable.

I already said I am not looking to buy or sell gil. In the game the people I play with are always saying that certian characters are probably gil sellers, so it made me interested in the rational behind it.

                        Re: Hi New to FFXI

                        Skillchain Basics:
There are 3 types of SC (SkillChain):
                        1) Level 1
                        2) Level 2
                        3) Level 3

Level 1 SC is 1 elemental
Level 2 SC is 2 elementals
Level 3 SC is 3 elementals

Level 3 SC are not viable until around lvl 65, so you'll mostly be dealing with Level 1 and 2. MB on these SC is using an elemental spell of the same type as the Skillchain.

                        Example:
Fusion (Fire and Light) - cast any spell that is of fire or light properties. So a good spell at that lvl is probably Fire or Dia.

You make SCs by using WS that were shown in the diagrams that you've been shown.

If you are continue with RDM, I would say hold off on farming till lvl 41 so you have both Refresh and Convert so you can continue to constantly farm and won't have downtime. It'll probably be best for you to take advantage of low lvl zones such as Saratuba, La Thelin, Maze of Shak.....etc. Just remeber the key idea to to farm for materials that will sell fast without wasting time on just resting.

                          Re: Hi New to FFXI

My problem is starting to be that the gear that is for my lvl costs more than the gil that I have available. I do have friends in my LS who will loan me a lot of stuff, but I have been taking a lot of stuff that I have been buying and loaning it to a RL friend who started playing after me.
It seemed when I was at lower lvls that the gil made from selling crystals and drops covered my gear and equipment but now its like I am constantly farming.
I started to lvl thf on someone's recommendation adn got to lvl 4 last night. Then I saw this person who was just starting and he only had an onion dagger and kept dying, so I changed back to rdm, gave him a sword and some of my lvl 1 gear, and cured him so he could lvl up.
Tonight i have to work on lvling thf again.

                            Whoah stop!

You CAN cure mobs. Cure spells damage undead, but do nothing against other enemies, so you can indeed accidentally cure enemies - though it won't actually heal them (does nothing, or damages undead). Still a waste of a spell, and one you won't want to deal with.

                            I like to use

                            /ma "Cure" <stpc>

This gives you a blue arrow that you can move around to select a player (will not accidentally target enemies or non-player entities like pets), then press Enter to cast (or whatever you Confirm button is, if playing on XBox 360 or PS2, or using a controller on PC).

I went back out last night with my husband and another friend who is a much higher level. We managed to get 3 tree cuttings, a stack of beastman blood, a bunch of moss, and a stack of silk thread.
for the tree sapling what type of pot should I be planting it in, and should i feed it any crystals? I currently have an earthen pot and a bronze pot, but i can buy one from the ah.

Nice booty!! to effectivly grow any type of elemental ore you need that corrasponding elemental flowing thru your MH...like for instance when you walk in your MH my mog says "Your house is aglow with earthen energy!!" or something to that effect. this is what i have in my MH...25 Porcelin pots 3 work benches a Royal Bed, taru step stool, Chocobo bedding and a galka manniquinn.

with that same set up in my other 5 mules i produce about 10-20 earth/dark ores every 3 weeks.
