    Re: Hi New to FFXI

I love subbing thf. I really liked lvling it too. I like getting to melee some and also i like the ranged attacks. I just hit lvl15 so I have treasure hunter and sneak attack.

      Re: Hi New to FFXI

Hello. I'm another one new to FFXI (two days really.) and I have been reading alot of faq's/guides about proffesions and such. However, In stead of making a new thread Ill just post here and hope you guys can answer

First off, I'm a lvl 2 thief on the Cerberus server.

moving along to my question. Ive read that some people lvl a 24 dragoon/10 warrior( I might be worng here) I thought you couldnt go for the advanced jobs before lvl 30? can you start off as a lvl 1 dragoon? Will my first pick as a class have any impact on my later job selections? can I turn into forexample a ninja/warrior?

      This might seem a bit stupid, but how do I regen hp after beeing in combat? o_o;

Do I need a world pass to travel around the world ingame?

Ill be back with more questions later

        Re: Hi New to FFXI

Your first pick class won't make an impact on your later job selections. The "advanced" jobs (DRG,NIN,BRD,etc.) can only be unlocked upon hitting level 30 on one of the "basic" jobs first.

Think about it this way, each job is its own entity on a single character. So, each job keeps its own separate XP. So when you gain a level, you're essentially levelling up whatever job you have set as your main and only that job - rather than your character gaining a level.

To regen HP after combat you can rest, bound to * on the numpad if you're a PC user, or type /heal. In most PTs, if you're a melee job, they would you not rest after combat as you will lose TP.

World pass is to just choose a specific server to create your character on.

        Hope that helps

            Oh another question.

            do quests give experience points?
can I solo my way up to lvl 75?
Do I HAVE to get a sub job, is it requierd? will I have trouble getting parties if I dont?
Is there cut scenes in the game, like the other ff games( I dont expect it too, but I gotta ask )?

oh and, if I got 2 jobs, and decide to take up another job. Will I lose any of the other jobs? like all the skills/exp spendt on it? or can you go back with lvling that job that youll replace with the 3rd job?

Unfortunately, quests do not give experience points. There are a few that give items that give experience points, but they are not common and can be difficult.

Soloing to 75 is not feasible for most jobs. If you want solo, then pick Beastmaster, they can solo to 75. I've also heard of Dragoon soloing to 75, and Summoner soloing much of their way. Some other jobs get soloing spots, but not all the way.

You don't HAVE to get a sub job, but you will have a hard time without one. You won't be invited to parties past level 20, and soloing will be difficult, even on Beastmaster. Think of a subjob as a little extra help. I recently got the spell Erase on my BLM65/WHM32 (erase removes a negative status effect). Erasing is generally the White Mage's responsibilty, but if I can toss in one here or there, it can speed things up. Plus, its nice to have while solo, too.

Yes, there are many cut scenes in FFXI. Try starting a mission, you will get a cut scene there. You can start a mission from a gate guard (usually standing near an NPC with WW, TK, or IM after their name.

                Re: Hi New to FFXI

Thanks alot for your help. I really appriciate it, and it helps ALOT!

to my last question, I think you missunderstood.

here is an example, if I got dragoon lvl 50 and a lvl 30 warrior. But then I decide to pick up thief as a sub job, will I loose all the experience points, skills and lvls I have gained on my current subjob(warrior). so If I wanted to get warrior back as a subjob, will I have to start over and lvl the warrior up to lvl 30?

(sorry for my spelling x_x; )

No, you will not lose any progress when switching subjobs. Each job keeps track of its own progress.

My main is Black Mage 65. I also have White Mage at 40, Thief at 27, and Red Mage at 24. When I party, I go as BLM65/WHM32. WHM lowers to 32 because your current subjob can never be more than half of your current main job. When I hit level 66, I will be BLM66/WHM33.

I can freely switch my subjob to Thief, Red Mage, and back to White Mage. I usually sub Thief when I go farming, to improve drop rates. I just go to my Mog House and change my subjob. I then become BLM65/THF27.

If I want Red Mage sub (which is underleveled) I switch it and become BLM65/RDM24. I can later switch back to WHM sub and become BLM65/WHM32 yet again. No progress lost.

At any time I like, I can switch to any job. If I want my main to be White Mage and my subjob to be Theif, I just change it in my Mog House and become WHM40/THF20.

I hope this clears things up.

I must have seen your post before you added that last question.

It took me about 2 weeks to level rdm to about 25 (rdm is 33 now) and blm to 21. I now also have a thf lvl 15. I have been playing for maybe a month now. I am still really new to this whole thing because I never played a video game in my life before this
