One time I needed gil to ride chocobo but my party was already at the chocobo stables but I didn't want to make them wait. So there I needed to find a way to barrow some gil. Of course I didn't know what to say so I went to Cain, as usual. I told me party I speak English and they tried to talk in English. Cain gave me, "giru wo kashite mo ii." So I just asked, "sumimasen, giru wo kashite mo ii?" I never would've asked them to barrow gil in English, because if your party says they can't speak English, don't even try. Of course it was my fault I wasn't prepared with gil, but one of my party members was nice enough to give me some. Just take the time to learn a few words of Japanese and it will make all the difference.

what did you say?
ƒvƒŠ?[ƒY?@ƒMƒu?@ƒ~?@ƒMƒ‹?`!
or something like that?
If you're gonna joke, make it obvious that it's a joke. Even so, I highly don't recommend saying the sentence above to someone you don't know

well I just got on Ragnarok today...lol (elvaan thief  )
anyway, I dont know too many Japanese either...but I am studying Japanese. I can read all furiganas and few kanjis. I always PT with Japanese (my char on Bahamut). well since you see my char is a BLM, you are right they might not be asking you specifically what spells to use, but you have to know it yourself what is best for the PT. But at some point they will ask you some questions too tho. Like when I didnt know how to do MB, the guy in the PT asked me if I understand how to do MB. (well the rest I actually said no cus i really dont know about it, then the guy actually explain how and what spell to use in order to get the MB while renkei, I could understand the outline of what he was saying, and got it right, at the end of the PT i telled him said my thank you for teaching me the MB)
the only time I got a PT with a guy who speak english good is when I was trying to make my own PT. he speaks both Japanese and English. I eventually ask him to be the leader
so yes you need to know a bit of Japanese. but I am not really an importer since I live here lol. I also rarely reveal that i am a foreigner to them (just when I was low level and new to the game I always tell them that my Japanese sucks...they still accept me and some of them even try hard to speak english to me, most of the Japanese players are like this).

Re:
Well this might just be a bit random or late in the topic but Just some tips and tricks I try to follow while being in a PT:
- Try to use as much japanese as possible to communicate.
- If you can't make out what others are saying it try sounding it out, I know I've picked up enough japanese to know what keys were typed so I can ask others what the word means in my LS. (Note: I don't use a POL keyboard, I use a Sharkboard with only Eng keys on it so this was hard for me at first.
)
-The Tab menu is also very handy if you dont know how to type a spell name or the name of a WS skill. All of it is right there for you in the Tab menu ^^.
- Take notes on new japanese words you learn or will use often in PT's such as Nice to meet you (Yoroshiku), Thank you (Arigatou/Ari~) and Etc.
- Try to be as friendly as you can be with your other PT members even if your frustrated with them or they mess up.
Well thats about it

....some deep game talk here....I agree that It a Japanese game and importer should try hard on Japanese, not them try hard on English....but first...Japanese learn English in school so they will know some...it just hard to find place to learn Japanese in western areas. I find it hard to speak English myself.
English not my first language, and I don¡Çt know any Japanese¡Äbut being a Chinese, I can easily read kanji ^o^
Don¡Çt get me wrong¡Ä, I¡Çm not saying jp player need to speak English for English players.
I played on Ultima online in UK US JAP servers. And JAP server players are a lot kinder. The thing is In UK and US¡Ä rude player are rude in there own server too¡Ä again, not saying that means they can be rude in Jp servers..
I not trying to make a point here.
Just say how I feel^^
I feel that whoever is playing the FF11, should mostly be FF11 fans, I think we just have to enjoy our self---we all know the time and money player have to put in to it, just live with each other and have fun¡Ä if there is Asshxxxs than simply forget about them ( importers and JP players) the Asshxxxs will leave sooner or later or they would learn to respect others. ^^ Let not forget FF11 is a game¡Ä.the best game there is and we should enjoy it (^0^)
I am learn some JP from JP players, they are very nice and they really playing the game and enjoy the time with another players¡Ä try not to only think about levelling.
I am only had a few pt and still a newbe , some with the Japanese¡Ä there was trough time, I know I am slowing the JP players, and importers too ><. Some of them really showed me how to play and we really enjoyed our self. Even when dying¡Ä I was very touched my a JP player, who speak English-better than I do, in their party was very mannered. I was very touched when we fight a stronger monsters, where the team is going to die, but a few say Run! I stay and save yourselves¡Ä..touched.
I always liked Japanese stuff anime comic squaresoft¡Ä. And I have a lot of respect to them. ^^
Sorry for the long and bad English..
Anyway Cain¡Ä. I¡Çm Drago in your linkshell Neo Gundan¡Ä.. I can¡Çt input text in your Linkshell, when I press enter after my typings, it comes up in red error JP ¡Ä¡Ä¡Ä you know why??
Best Regards to Cain and Ping and many others who very done a lot for the importers, I won¡Çt get JP FF11 without your teams effects. I hope I won¡Çt cause too much problems for other players ><¡Ä.. every one has their Newbes stage. Some are longer¡Ä.like my.><¡Ä
Drago: /joy enter
