It depends on the enemy type you are fighting against.

When you are fighting against undead type (which you would face for a large portion of lv30-50, skeleton/weapons/DS), lv2 heat type renkei is the most effective. Most of the time you would have the renkei ended with a combo/rakengi.

But when you are fighting beast type (Orcs/Gobs/Quavs), lv2 bent type is more effective. This is the time when most warriors/paladins are requested to use two-handed weapons.

After reading this thread I'm really disgusted by the attitudes of some importers.

Awntawn: if anyone follows your advice I hope they get kicked out of a party before it starts, saving grief from other players. Thats the worst advice ever.

Every subsequent person replying is trying to say: you simply do not know enough about the game to call others "retarded" for choosing a renkei with something other than combo/rangeki. If anything is retarded, its not realizing how crappy your fire renkei damage is on an orc or beetle/crawlernest nasty thing.

In higher levels, warriors also have to realize who is a main shield, sometimes also there's assigned taunt sharing. ex: two people trade taunting, a third is kept in reserve just in case.

I can go on forever, but the point is you must learn japanese to play this game. What cain said: Stop giving importers a bad name!

*sigh* sorry about that... it was late at night, lotta pressure built up... took your reply a bit too hostily and snapped... forget what I originally wrote here... (-_-)

and obviously too many were taking the previous bit more seriously than they should have, so I deleted it... are we cool now?

Regard this as a worthless flame if you want; I'm pissed and am highly offended by your post.
This is so hilarious. I'm physically doubled over laughing. This is EXACTLY the kind of dumbshit attitude Sheila was referring to. In her entire post, when did she ever berate you like you did her? I mean, use common sense. God blessed you with whatever (apparently) small amount you possess for a reason.

I say if u dun speak any Japanese, be monk and just close every renkei with combo/rakengi ^^ Easiest path
I think it's outrageous that you can sit there and act offended when you said one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. Serious or not: it's just stupid. Have you ever played a monk? I guess you haven't because even at lower levels, not all renkei are closed with combo.

And also, what's with the "if u dunno Japanese then bugger off" thing? I'm fortunate enough to understand enough to get around, but the people who don't have paid just as much money as I have, and have as much a right to play the game as everyone in Japan. They may have a harder time doing so, but if they feel it's worth their time, then let them be. If they're complete assholes and people complain to you about them, just tell them to stop. If they don't, sever your ties and claim that you have nothing to do with them. Don't go around thinking that just because you spend more time indoors playing video games than out doing anything else means you have the right to determine who can and can't play the game.
I don't know what kind of bumfucked mentality this is "OH I PAID FOR THIS GAME OMG SO I CAN ACT LIKE AN ASS IN IT." I don't care if you got it for free or if you gave your arm for it: IT'S STILL A JAPANESE GAME. If you were playing FFXI in English, and someone who couldn't speak English was downright rude to you JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN'T SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE, I'm 150% sure you would be blowing a god damned gasket. You'd be hard pressed to find patience and kindness exhibited by so many Japanese players among English ones, I'm sure. This isn't to say there aren't Japanese players that are unduly hasty in judging importers harshly, but I haven't run into one in all the time I've played.

"Don't go around thinking that just because you spend more time indoors playing video games than out doing anything else means you have the right to determine who can and can't play the game."

How is this even relevant? Knowing Japanese has nothing to do with playing the game for x amount of hours. Being respectful and using common sense ALSO has nothing to do with how many hours you play the game, how many hours you spend PARTYING HARD~, or how many hours you spend jacking off, for that matter.

As for the NG "issue," you missed the mark completely. Congrats on isolating your "group of elite importers" from the rest of the people playing the game.

Bottom line is, your attitude justifies and perpetuates the negative importer image and it's disgusting.

            Period.

I don't care about who screws up in NG, and it doesnt matter.
But it gives all importers a bad name.

You don't appreciate how hard Cain tries to get everyone to FIT IN. He is frustrated daily by people who make things harder than they should be.

Don't go around thinking that just because you spend more time indoors playing video games than out doing anything else means you have the right to determine who can and can't play the game.
Which proves my previous point about being "disgusted by importers attitudes". Your attitude is worse than I thought. You simply don't know how to be civil in a discussion.

That's often the excuse said by any person who sucks at a game "oh they play more and must have no life".

The truth is if someone has been playing longer and PROPERLY they will gain skills in playing, they simply will be better and know more from experience.

Stay on your own turf. You don't know shit about what happens and who fucks up in NG, so stay the hell out of it.
What the hell is about "turf" on this whole thread? This is about about gameplay, manners and co-operation. The tone of your previous post is irrelevant.

I've been on NG before it was NG, so I do *know*. Knowing is why I haven't returned on NG anymore (although I really miss some friends there -_-).

You are offended that people or so pointed out how you were dead wrong. You are offended because you think you're being told not to play. So what? Just suck it up.

Other importers feel the same way and just haven't said it:

If you don't know whats going on nor what to do, you probably should not play. That is common sense.

Kirie's post pretty much summarizes it. If this was an english game and non-english users *invaded* your servers, acting rude and doing whatever they want for renkei, I'm sure as hell you all would be here complaining, name dropping and what not. They already do on japanese forums.

And, if you even dare to reply this with more flames instead of normal discussion, you are driving more nails into your already shut coffin.

I want this thread to continue without your immature posts.

Alrighty..anyways im guna try to get back on topic. Its really not that hard to be an importer... i know when i started i knew zero japanese. I picked it up, you dont have to be fluent in the language to get by. Now ive played as both warrior, and whitemage (currently whm). Yes, they both involve a little knowledge of jp. Just familiarize yourself with your role and ull done fine. Learn to associate certain things, like renkei + WS names as a war, and pay attention to your taunt abilitys. As a whm, just basically keep focus on the battle. I'm not the best at jp, ill be the first to admit it. Honestly, if someone told me 'Please heal me from the curse status' in jp, i may not pick up on it. But seriously, that status didn't come out of nowhere. Watch the enemy, and watch your log... it tells you right there whats going on. Learn simple words, and pick them out of sentences and piece together what their saying.

The most important thing is to be polite. Saying simple things like '‚æ‚낵?E?`' when you enter a party, and '‚¨‚‚©‚ꂳ‚Ü?@‚Å‚µ‚½' right before you leave one can make all the difference. Don't do anything that can be considered disrespectful. A little manners it all it takes...

[edit] Some of that jp didnt come up right on the forum.. but ya'll know what i mean. The first one is 'yoroshiku' and the second ' otsukaresama deshita'
I plan to live forever.. so far so good.

During my FFXI play, I have learned how to read almost all hiragana and katana and a few kanji (2 or 3 ^^) and it was a good experience. Anyone that wants to learn Japanese can pick up the basics through just a few Japanese parties. Though there came a time when I needed a lot of translations, but now I hardly need any help with Japanese, except for REAL problems. Since we are playing a Japanese release game, it's only fair to the Japan players we try and speak Japanese to them. Good luck to you all. I will be coming back to FFXI when the time is right.. my life is messed up since the day I started playing FFXI so I am stopping so I can go back to being an A++ smart ass.

Sharky - I completely agree with what you said there. It's their game - not ours! We're simply guests in the game, and we should treat it as such. It's not fair for us to come in and ruin what they've built. I'm sure everyone would hate it if the Japanese started playing the English version...

Now, personally, I've been recieving formal Japanese instruction from some place in Toronto (Ontario, Canada). It's great - and it's helped me form simple sentences in the game (with Hiragana and Katakana; with SOME Kanji). Let me give an example...

Yesterday, a PT of 3 NG members (me and two others) decided to go to Windurst. In order to get there the fastest, though, we'd have to take the boat. Well, it figures that we'd be caught by pirates - and all killed within a few minutes. Oh well. We held off in the boat for a while and waited for it to be docked at Mhaura. There, there were a couple of Japanese players...well, wondering what to do with all of us (I could somewhat understand what they were saying).

The level 60 Paladin spoke enough English to say, "okay i go find rezier", which certainly helped. While my Japanese is absolutely terrible, I was able to use my Japanese <-> English dictionary to (very...slowly...) come up with some sentences like, "Thanks for the help" and "Sorry for the trouble". Needless to say, we were all raised and we made it to Windurst.

It was a lot of fun, though! I will say this: the Japanese players are wonderful to play with, and they will go out of their way (and then some) to help you out. There is a problem with this, though: if they at any time start to see ignorance and/or arrogance from English players, then they'll simply refuse to help any English player at all.

Unfortunately, this can happen to anyone in any game. In a game that I play called "Nexus", there were a select few absolute morons who decided that it'd be fun to create new characters (you can have a character for 10 days, or up to level 11, for free (whatever comes first)) and run around the cities shouting "me korea itam plz". It didn't take much long after this started for anyone to not bother helping new players anymore, since these ones got so rediculiously annoying. Now, if you're a new character in the game, then it's almost impossible to find good help.

THANKFULLY, it has not happened to FF11 yet. I expect the English version to be full of the above kind of person, but until then, I'm going to be enjoying playing the Japanese version along with everyone else.

I am not sure who these guy are but, One of them telled some high levelers (including my JPN LS friends) "Do you have any spare gil? (In English)" or, this Lazana guy simply asked for friend in a suddent and invited my LS members without telling a single word nor even met! And I got complaint about "Your foreigner friends are irrating". I don't even know how to reply them but just keep saying sorry...

Oh Common man, do you know what you are doing? You can't just go ask for gil like this or bang into a cute hume monk and scared her away (lol). Some of you really need to learn about some online manner...
