  • Namco goes Pac-Man on Tales Studio

The inevitable has happened. Xillia's good sales (2nd best in the series) were not enough to keep Namco-Bandai from announcing they will dismantle and absorb the "Tales of" Studio. With Innocence R and Heroes: Twin Brave still to come out and the next mothership title already started, the series isn't going away (like what pretty much everyone else on the internet believes...), but the studio itself will be no more.

Really, this was just an excuse to make that thread title.

If this causes Tales of Xillia to be delayed in arriving outside of Japan, I will be... upset.

Other than ToX, though, the whole franchise has been a series of terrible missteps. Why Namco-Bandai thought the Wii would be the best platform to launch Tales of Graces on completely confuses me, and why they thought milking an otherwise good franchise with mediocre portable spinoffs would be a good idea, I have no clue.

It probably part of the reason why they are absorbing the studio, to take more control over those sort of things. And force the developers to not rush games to get them out before Final Fantasy so they don't have to recall Graces when it has game crashing bugs in it.

And to get Xillia, you're going to have prove there is a profitable market for it...only one way to do that.

At least you get Tales of Games in the US. Over here we have had a grand total of two: Symphonia and Vesperia. Second hand copies of either will easily sell for the equivalent of $150-160 here.

Abyss 3D comes out on Friday. And Eternia came out on the PSP and Phantasia on the GBA in 06. That just leaves Destiny and Legendia that we yanks have gotten. There are still Destiny 2, Rebirth, Innocence, Tempest, Hearts, Graces (which we are both getting) and Xillia, not to mention the definitive versions of Destiny, Symphonia and Vesperia that neither side of the pond has gotten.
