Re: Guild Wars 2
So I've finished with the race specific section of my personal story and moved on to joining one of the three orders. The writing for the generic section seems comparatively weak, and cliche. It all pretty much assumes I'm playing as a human, or at least doesn't account for the fact that people will be playing through these missions as a Charr. I joined the Vigil and it's like they didn't really account for the fact that my character is pretty much on par with or outright superior to these schmucks given his time serving the Legion. They treat you like you're some wet-behind-the-ears doe-eyed squishy pink skinned adventurer, totally not accounting for the fact that my character is a battle-hardened beast born from the war-machine that is the entire Charr culture. It's very irritating.
I really just want to tell the Vigil to go screw themselves and go back to the Iron Legion and my warband.

Re: Guild Wars 2
I have a red and gold theme for my Thief that works pretty well for town gear.
I also have a bright pink outfit for my thief because the reactions you get in PvP are hilarious.
But I don't have a general theme per se, I just dye my armour to match the zone's terrain on my Thief and Warrior.
My Guardian has a white and red white mage theme though :3

Re: Guild Wars 2
I'll grab a few screenshots when I get home today. I've been finding a metric asstonne of dyes, and I've had a lot of fun mixing and matching. My three established themes so far are Paladin, Lannister, and Nighthawk.

Re: Guild Wars 2
I will be adding screenshots to my FFXI screenshot thread later.
Also a mesmer is basically the game's equivalent of a Bard. It specialises in enfeebling magic and buffing. I love having one on the party because it makes me more awesome at whatever my role is in the party.

Unless you're playing with friends or doing some sort of event that requires coordination, not really. Just roam and follow other people around.

Enjoy it while it lasts. I've apparently hit the upload limit so it'll start pruning older images now since I don't feel like paying them money.

Re: Guild Wars 2
So, other than PvP or WvWvW or apparently the dungeons I haven't gotten to yet, is there any incentive to group up in actual parties rather than just doing stuff loosely knit with other people who happen to be doing the same things as you?
Or . . . have I just not gotten there yet?

I think I can spec my warrior in such a way as to prove you wrong. Depends on how potent a certain trait is.Originally posted by Firewind View PostWarriors impress me a lot as they can fit into nearly any role you can think of except for a dedicated healer (Guardian, Engineer and Elementalist have it beat there).

Re: Guild Wars 2
I still have no idea what role my mesmer is supposed to be. I just run around buffing people with my purple balls that bounce around and giant purple electric shield thingy. Think he's more bard-esque, but that's probably just me trying too hard.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Okay I am loving the number of little anti-frustration measures and conveniences put into the game.
Particularly with crafting:
They basically looked at FFXIV's system, laughed and said "yeah this is how you do it".
Basically you have a list of memorises recipes and the whole experiment by adding X, Y and Z component. But if it does make an item you immediately get a pop up asking if you want to make more and if so how many
Also the system they used to gather materials is wonderful: nodes spawn for individual players and only vanish for the player who just collected from them. So say I decide to go gather some strawberries to level cooking some more (there's a big patch of them in South East Kessex Hills overlooking Wizard's Fief) and someone just harvested from all 8 patches. Well I can still harvest from those patches and so can the guy who just followed me up there to do the same.
The while character build system is great too and pretty much seems to point and laugh at FFXIV's armoury system. Every class is self sufficuent:
So my main is a Thief, by default I usually use Twin Pistols and Twin Daggers with my utilities set to various kinda of poison to inflict debuffs to deal moar deepeeseeses. I can kite, I can fight well in melee and have the tools to escape and fight again at a distance. But let's say I join a group that has no real healer or support character. Well let's just say I switch to a Shortbow and Dagger/Pistol combo while switching my utilities and traits to some support ones like Shadow Refuge, Smoke Bomb and Blinding Powder.
*BAM!* I'm now a fully functional red mage that specialises on throwing down combo fields and inflicting status effects while also healing, providing buffs whenever I use Steal, and providing stealth and getaway tools for the party. We didn't have to sit around waiting for a dedicated healer, every class is self sufficient and can easily take on multiple important party roles.
I have a Guardian that tanks and heals like a baws and an Engineer that can heal and support like a champ but can still be specced to throw out some impressive damage. Warriors impress me a lot as they can fit into nearly any role you can think of except for a dedicated healer (Guardian, Engineer and Elementalist have it beat there).

Re: Guild Wars 2
So Arenanet thought it would be a good idea to match up an English server against 2 German Servers for WvWvW
Every night since the game came out the entire WvWvW map has been red (my server's colour) because of 2 issues:
1) There are far less people playing in German servers so they tend not to have many people
2) The players on these servers are really, really awful. We had 8 people against their 20 and we were still curb stomping them. We stayed together so anyone downed could be instantly brought back up, they scattered about and were easily picked off. We fell back to draw them away from their walls, they charged after us and were picked off due to being overstretched. They attacked somewhere? We basically coordinated a pincer with other groups each time they tried to take something back.
The only times we see Blue or Green on the map is when...You know I don't know, there really doesn't seem to be a time where they even get into our zone and if they do make a push then it's usually all red again within the hour....
So erm...When do WvWvW servers reset again?
