Re: Nintendo 3DS
Yes, I play a DS game for a couple hours and if it grabs me, then I buy a copy. I do own the new KH. It's kind of nice to have a slew of sealed games. My son thinks I'm nuts but I prefer to support the producers/developers of a good game.
Now PSP games I do basically the same thing except I don't leave them sealed. PSP games are large compared to DS games. I can fit a little over 100 games on an 8 gb card for DS. The PSP games are over 1 gb each so an 8 gb stick would get me about 4 games. I have one 2 gb stick that I use for PSP games and two 1 gb sticks for saves, so the games are played via UMD.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
He might be referring to the next PSP model, not Go. I don't know if the 4000 has been released or not, though, there seemed to be some information suggesting it would happen.Originally posted by TheGrandMom View PostThe Go's are jailbroken, fyi. PSPGos were jailbroken recently.
To what purpose, I can only wonder, considering the Go isn't worth owning in the first place
I'm sure TGM owns a copy of KH:BBS, though.
I only kick R4 users in the nuts, it would take too long to go after all the PSP hackers.

There was a kid that was late to one of the little DQIX get togethers in my area.Originally posted by Kailea View Postyeah R4 ruined it -.- had a customer with the nerve to try and bring back a DSI XL because his R4 did not work for it..... I laughed in his face and told him no ;p
(and yes he actually told me "my R4 does not work with this")
He had a R4.
Suddenly I just pretended I didn't have my DSi with me at all.
Well, the "homebrew" community (quotation because its about 5% of people doing nifty things and the other 95% just stealing shit) is assuming Nintendo's just going to leave the keys to the kingdom here.Originally posted by FebaThe new PSP mainboards haven't had piracy issues, and they don't have region locking either.
I suppose this means I'll probably wind up getting two 3DS at some point though, which is kinda very much a pain in the ass.
The older PSP models were pretty easy to break into, what with the USB connection plus the ability to access the memory stick. Just wouldn't take much to screw with the inner workings. Sony might have fixed it with later models, but there are plenty old models out there to play with.
But yeah, I can see how it would suck for you, because once out that thing's probably going to be all the rage in Japan. And when they're not doing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd or DQIX (if DQIX is still a thing there), they might be doing Super Street Fighter IV.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Its now been confirmed the 3DS will be region locked.
Thank all the R4 using douchebags for that, then kick them in the nuts.
Not that I import much, usually just stuff that doesn't require any knowledge of Japanese - like fighters, platformers and puzzle games. Last time I think I even went to the trouble was Soulcalibur 2 on GameCube.

Mal, we're talking about lithium-ion batteries here.
They're champions of portable device longevity as it is, but they can only do so much when you throw more demands at them.
You know, like lasers and disc motors draining battery life on PSP and data installs doing very, very little to make up for that issue. Every bit helps, mind you, but even after a big install some of those games are still a big battery drain due to the graphics these games run, you've only lightened the load on loading times.
Ys: Oath of Felghana and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep are going to give me different mileage. Vastly so, actually. Scale it down to something like No Heroes Allowed for maximum effect - at that point we're not even accessing the disc drive or rendering polygons anymore.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Even those I'd prefer a more colorful version of, really. Part of the headache that was the Virtual Boy was the red-and-black scheme. The rest of the pain came in the design, unless you laid back on your bed and laid it on your face. Putting it up on the stand and peering down into it was a literal pain-in-the-neck.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Speaking of rendering images twice, what I'd love to see is Virtual Boy games. I wouldn't even care if they stayed red. I don't care what anyone thinks about the Virtual Boy - Mario Tennis, Mario Clash and Wario Land were awesome.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
See, I think with Malacite its pretty much expected he wants unrealistic things, so putting things politely isn't exactly my first choice with him.
People wanted Nintendo to put out a more powerful system.
Deep down most people knew this would come at some kind of cost.
3DS is a system that renders two images for the top screen and one for the bottom screen. We called them crazy back when they came up with the two-screen concept, but while it seems to have proven itself it doesn't change the fact it runs the risk of being a bit of a drain. We deactivate the 3D with the analog slider and the processors now don't have to work at rendering an image for each eye.
3D Over the shoulder Street Fighter goes back to the 2D perspective and we're back to to just the two screens.
And there's no rule that says you always have to be playing a 3DS game here, you could be playing a DS game or download game and see much more milage out of that. You're not without options. I can transfer over my Cave Story and Mighty Flip champs to this thing and just play that if I want to.
Or old Game Boy games, but man, I'd really prefer if they're going to put up old Game Boy and GBC games that they just remake them instead. Mario Land was nice for its time, but if you think I'm going to look at that now, you can think again.
Maybe Mario Land 2, that wasn't so bad, but in color would be nice.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
...a 5 year old console that doesn't output more than 480p. When the PSP came out, it was also more expensive than a PS2 or Gamecube.Originally posted by MalaciteHigher price than the WiiWhat part of "Batteries don't follow Moore's Law" do you not understand? Battery technology can't keep up with the rate at which processing power increases - we certainly don't see batteries that last twice as long every 2 years. It's the reason some gaming laptops now come with a sucky GPU and a good GPU and CPUs have all sorts of features to underclock/overclock based on the workload. The 3DS is more powerful, something had to give - either the battery life shrinks or the handheld becomes bulkier and less portable to house more battery cells. Don't like the battery life? Turn down the 3D effect or the brightness. Don't like that? Tough shit. 5 hours is plenty - are you really gonna use it 5 hours every day in places where you can't charge it? Just treat it like a cell phone and charge it every night.+ Crap Battery
I can understand passing it over at launch based on the price and the launch games not tickling your fancy, but griping about 5 hours of battery life at max settings is silly. Do you think Sony's next handheld will do any better? I doubt it.
That aside, I hope it has AV-out like the later models of PSP. It sucks that the only way to make good DS gameplay videos or streams is through emulation.Last edited by Armando; 01-10-2011, 04:51 PM.
