Re: Nintendo 3DS
Saw this and while its not directly tied to the 3DS, it did make me think of something and chuckle. DS sales are down because all the geeks are waiting for the 3DS!! lol
Nintendo DS Sales Fall Through The Floor
"In the six months leading up to September 30, 2009, Nintendo sold 11.7 million DS units worldwide. In the six months leading up to September 30, 2010, that figure has dropped by nearly half, to 6.69 million.
It's to be expected, of course. Not only is the DS getting a little long in the tooth as it approaches its sixth birthday, but with the 3DS now at the forefront of people's attention, interest in a soon-to-be-outdated handheld was always going to wane.
Wii sales were also down, from 5.75 million at the same time last year to to 4.97 million over the past six months.
These declines, coupled with a big slip in the value of the Yen, means Nintendo's net income was down 33.7% over the same time last year, while its operating income was down 48%."

Re: Nintendo 3DS
No DS games will not be able to be seen in 3D. Only special 3D DS cartridges will.
EDIT: Here is a great place for all the info you'd want to know about it. It has a couple videos too.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I forgot to ask. Is the 3D only compatible with 3DS games or is it in the hardware itself - meaning even DS games get the 3D effect?

Re: Nintendo 3DS
"The forthcoming Nintendo 3DS will cost ¥25,000. That's US$305! That's... a lot of cabbage. The handheld does not yet have a price point outside of Japan. But what does The Land of the Rising Sun think?
Website GetNews.jp has the results of a poll that asked over 1,000 folks whether they think the Nintendo 3DS is expensive or cheap. Their responses:
• Slightly Expensive: 32.2 percent (323 replies)
• Expensive: 28.3 percent (284 replies)
• Too Expensive: 19.2 percent (192 replies)
• Reasonable: 16.4 percent (164 replies)
• Slightly Inexpensive: 2 percent (20 replies)
• Inexpensive: 0.9 percent (9 replies)
Note: Out of those who were polled, six did not respond to the question.
Out of those polled, comments included things like "I'm hesitant to buy it on launch day" or "That's not the price-tag of a child's toy." Others said the machine's specs did not seem to merit the price tag, while others believed that the pricing was fair.
Late last month, Kotaku asked its readers if the upcoming handheld was too expensive.
The Nintendo 3DS will go on sale in Japan next February. It will not have the price-tag of a child's toy."

Re: Nintendo 3DS
yeah it runs DS games, too. This time they have the slot for DS carts right next to the 3DS card slots. Doubtful that they'll ever take out DS compatibility.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
This thing will run DS games too, yes?
Because going through my games I just found a copy of Kanji sonomama I bought a long, long time ago.
So might as well take the chance to justify the purchase just for that. <_<;

Re: Nintendo 3DS
IGN had some comparison shots, but I only felt like posting one of them.

I...shit, Kojima, thank you for ruining my fond memories of what a good looking PS2 game this was.
You can find the rest here.

Yeah, MGS3 is basically the best technical presentation of what's there.
OOT and Star Fox 64 look a lot cleaner than their original versions, lots more color and better resolution, but the textures and environments could still use an upgrade. Maybe these are still early screens.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
still considering a day one purchase, even at that price. Partially because a day five hundred and forty five purchase won't be a ton cheaper.
Will depend on how cheap the games are and how impressed I am when I start seeing demo kiosks, though.
Which may be awhile, I don't actually know any game shops around here. Like have not seen a one. Seen stores with game stuff, but nothing equivalent to GS, BB, etc.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Damn you Kojima-san!
Using Big Boss (in 3D) to force me to buy a 3DS. Man that's low.
So how do you pre-order this thing again? <_<;
PS > LOL PSP-Go
I remember discussing with some guys here about some of the "leaked" and made up versions of the device, and pretty much everyone agreeing about just how wrong and fake one of them was compared to pretty much all the other "versions" of it.
Big lolz once it was revealed that was exactly the official version.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
The cord that comes with the DS/ DSi is a charger AND an AC cord and thats the point and I'm not comparing the 3DS to a PSP.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostPSP and DSi don't come with a charging stand, though. That sort of thing is usually sold separate as an accessory. Well, except PSP and DS never had one. It could be an induction charger, too, but its too hard to say from what's been shown so far. All the same its added convenience, which I welcome,
They mentionrd there were some "augmented reality" games built in as well which the AR cards might work with.. For example, the camera can scan use your face to build a Mii automatically or using the 3D camera it can place question blocks in the picture you're viewing. Gimmicky stuff, but DSi and Wii had such things as well.
Pretty sure they'll pull some DSiWare points sort of deal or something at launch, too, which they did for the original DSi model. If they have GBA games ready by then, that would be awesome.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I think its more like the pen, AC adapter, and charging stand are a given since the pen and power cord (which you use both to charge and as an AC adapter) come with the DS/DSi. So the 6 AR cards and a 2gb SD card. The SD card isn't shit, you can get one for $5 or less. As for the 6 AR cards, I highly doubt they are worth $145 (in comparison to a DSi's price). Oh and that 3D camera, they have been around a while and never took hold. I remember when a friend of mine got a "You have one a prize in our sweepstakes" rip off scheme and decided to go with it. (People with money to burn can be annoying!) He got a 3D/Panorama camera and a huge package of spa lotions and shit, which I ended up with....I'm totally NOT complaining about that! lol It was fun to play with but in the end it was put aside and forgotten. I understand doing games in 3D without glasses is new tech and I commend them for it, but they might be pricing themselves out of the 5-15 age bracket (and they buy a lot of DS games and systems) with that price. Its going to be a hard nugget to swallow when mom and dad get the Christmas list and then see the price in the store. I know my immediate reaction, as a parent, would be NO WAY IN HELL.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostWell the touch pen and AC adaptors are givens, but they're also including a charging bay. 6 AR cards, and the 2GB SD card. When you lump in the 3D camera, all the other features and the power of the system $300 is actually looking to be quite a bargain.
