Will that even work? I've heard that the new 3D TV's aren't so good, and that you have like 15~20 degree viewing angle.

Plus you have to have the glasses on or the 3D part doesn't work at all.

I think Nintendo is on the right track - let's try it on a cheaper scale first, then worry about 3D when TV produce the effect more cheaply WITHOUT the need for 3D glasses.

I mean, waste your money if you want to, but I'm not going to.

Don't know where you heard that. The new 3D shutter-style glasses work from any angle that you can normally see the screen from. And yes, the glasses are mondo expensive - $150 a pair, and the 3D effect doesn't work at all without them - it makes the screen look incredibly blurry.

P.S. Omgwtfbbqkitten: I wouldn't put much store in what Nintendo is calling 3D for the 3DS. We don't know anything about their tech, but having done quite a bit of research into the various 3D technologies out there, I don't see how they're going to pull off a handheld 3D device that works at any angle, unless it's just smoke and mirrors using head tracking. None of the known existing 3D technologies can be adapted into a handheld device without exorbitant cost.

I never underestimate Nintendo on this sort of thing. They'll find a way, find a way to do it cheap and make loads of money off of it. I'll let their history with handhelds speak proof of that. If they can't find a way to do it cheaply - they will not do it.

I mean, it probably is the head-tracking thing and what is 3D but an optical illusion anyway? And if I don't want to use it, I can turn it off.

See that's another thing - Nintendo seem to be taking into consideration the potential health issues here - everywhere else I just see hype first ask questions later. For some this stuff gives serious headaches so I hardly see this becoming a new standard.

              And you believed him? LOL.

I've actually used the new 3D shutter tech. It works fine at any angle that the TV would normally be visible at.

And he should believe you over Michael Pachter because?? ...because you say so? You are just as much a stranger to him as Mr. Pachter is and can weave a yarn just as well. I think the decision to who he'll believe lies in his hands.

Given that Pachter has a proven record and is generally very knowledgable (and right) with the gaming industry and tech stuff, I'm siding with him.

He doesn't have to believe me. He can see it in action at most any Best Buy and try it for himself. Personal experience beats marketing-speak 10 times out of 10.

Seeing as how I usually look at my DS head-on anyways, I doubt viewing angle is much of a concern to Nintendo.

That's the exact point Pachter makes when he was asked about the 3DS - due to the small screen, it's much less of an issue than it would be for PS3 or 360.
