Re: White Knight Chronicles International! like an mmorpg, but free!

Dude screw whatever sites they are. They're so up western RPG asses, they forgot to appreciate a good eastern RPG. I am loving this game right now.. I haven't played online yet cause I am waiting for my friends to get passed the first part of the game so I am hoping that'll make this game even better.,

The only corncheese about this game is the acting/animation.. Other than that, this game blows Dragon Age, Fallout 3, and Oblivion out of the water, IMO.

Also, if you're a trophy whore like me, it's going to be time consuming for sure to get platinum.

Yah, I don't much care for reviews since I don't care about other people's opinions, but they do make good points on the technical elements of any given game. So far, there's some pretty mixed reactions to this game, but that won't stop me from picking it up. The online and georama are pretty cool since I super love Dark Cloud, this is like the next gen version of that series.

I'm pretty excited to pick it up this weekend.

I have the JP version; mediocre is the best way to describe it I think. Twee story, dull characters (and your character isn't even part of the story which is just weird), decent combat mechanics. It seemed like another "me too" FFXI / XII type JRPG to me. Never took it online though, perhaps that adds something, though from what I read it wasn't all that great.

I do think it's funny that people are so down on FFXIII but so hyped for this. WKC doesn't even come close to it.

I'm enjoying it so far. I really haven't gotten into the meat of the game yet though. Haven't done online content yet either. The customization at the beginning was nice. Kinda wish FFXIV would have that but thats not gonna happen. lol I can't say a thumbs up or down yet but I will say that so far its a typical JRPG and I am enjoying it.

Re: White Knight Chronicles International! like an mmorpg, but free!

*flips mittens* ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER!!!!!! this is not a typical JRPG!

I only put it aside for a day because AVP demo was up on Thursday, but I just completed the story and it's really one of the most underrated games and stories ever. The online will really keep me busy at least until FFXIV releases!

I love the WKC cutscenes and voice acting and dialogue too!! I mean how many rpgs actually have the characters spent frequent quality time together while camping/resting at night? It's so wonderful how there is character interaction virtually at the beginning and end of every new area you visit! And that is not counting the scenes before and after boss battles. Each new city discovered is more jaw dropping than the last! This game is fun and somewhat revolutionary compared to the JRPG junk we've been getting from other companies (including Square Enix.), especially considering the linked online features. But just the story itself is worth the money. The climax and the ending is so lengthly and beautiful, it makes you want to play the sequel already! xD It really feels like one epic connected journey!

And even though it follows a cliche of saving the princess, it has many more plot twists, and shocking moments that I never expected! Yes, this almost feels like an mmorpg if it had an offline story mode. And that's a good thing because even though there isn't real-time weather changes, the locations just feel so massive that it makes the journey twice more fun and epic!!!! There are many things to explore, and mineral/item resource spots to discover! It's also cool seeing giants and planning on using buffs and other preparations before getting in range to start attacking them.
The later dungeons even have some light puzzle/maze elements, which I'm not fond of, but I'm glad they weren't frustrating, and they made the later dungeons a little bit more than just following a path to point B.

The combat is so fun (reminds me of FFXI, but better), and the Knight Combat is AWESOME! It's easy in difficulty, but that is a good thing because it actually makes the Knights feel powerful, as they should be. And they get more awesome as the story progresses! Xenosaga and even Xenogears should of had this battle system. There are so many cool attacks and combos to create! I love the Skill system too because you can kind of make your own class, and they all have their interesting skills to learn and stat boosts.

And of course seeing the armor/clothes you equip your character is something all games/rpgs should have from now on (WKC even displays them during the in-game cutscenes!) Later in the story, when I got the more knight-like armor, I switched everyones green cape to red, wow the party looks so awesome in uniform, especially during the cutscenes! Makes me feel like I'm watching the Excalibur movie again. ^_^

And yes, the characters themselves deserve their own fanbase and shrines and love. ^_^
All of them are so deep and very cool. Even the NPCs and Guests. The interaction between the characters is very good and enjoyable to watch (not to mention beautiful art design and facial expressions too.) Leonard is a caring person, Yulie is a good friend and you feel sorry for her sometimes, Eldore is so cool, Kara is awesome, Caeser gets more awesome later on.
I wonder what Captain Cyrus will do in the sequel? I think he will get a bigger role to play.
But Cisna is so wonderful, there's a big difference between her in the beginning and towards the finale.
Yeah it goes to show this story has character development in there too!

There is so much mystery surrounding some characters!!!!! It's also SO GREAT that White Knight Chronicles has plenty of GREAT VILLAINS you either love to hate, or adore because of their internal conflicts or awesome power. The game's world also has a RICH HISTORY you learn about too! Level 5 really surpassed their previous creations and other games of late! WKC really is a masterpiece that deserves at least a 9/10 (the only thing is that while the music fits and has some epic moments, especially the final boss theme, there are some lower key points in like 1 or 2 dungeons that, well, kind of feels ordinary. I just felt they could do better with 1 or 2 pieces of some dungeon music, but other than that it's fantastic work!)

Yes, even our avatar is cool, which doesn't really get much attention,
but still a part of the group and helping fight the forces of evil.
(I used my imagination to fill in the gaps with their relationship with Leonard. It's really how the avatar is intended to be used. People can treat it as themselves, or as a hired hand that's just in it for the money if they want to see it that way.

A fully customizable avatar is something more games should incorporate into the gameplay, story and cutscenes. I didn't mind being the "sidekick", it's actually refreshing from the cliched lead roles almost all rpgs throw us into. And even not being the lead doesn't mean we can't take point and guide the party. ^_^ WKC really gives the best of both worlds, a scripted, fully voiced main character, and a mute customizable support character (like Crono in Chrono Trigger, but fully customizable.) that can use any weapon/skill. All the while we can even control any character as the leader, inside towns too (something FFXII should of allowed.)

This has become my favorite game ever. ^_^ The story and game really expands in ways I never imagined! This is an experience you can't judge just playing halfway through, you have to play through the whole story to really see it's value. And play the online too to see that Level 5 created the greatest game these days that gives you MUCH MORE than what you pay for.

Re: White Knight Chronicles International! like an mmorpg, but free!

The game is a typical JRPG except for the online aspect, sorry Jenova. But you knew that they would evolve RPG's to h ave some type of online content eventually since thats the big thing with games now.

The cut scenes are cool but the voice acting is flat at times. Also the little ad libs you get while walking around is annoying at times. When I'm enhancing and binding and going back and forth I do not need my pt members constantly saying little quips about "is this the right way" or "we need to get going" blah blah blah.

It's also another game that holds your hand. You get on a map, and the maps are HUGE, and there is a big flashing star on the map to show you where you need to go next. I decided not to use my map at all so that the game would have a more difficult element to it. You also can easily level your character while doing quests online so your character when its offline is uber and just creams bosses. Top that with enhancing and binding a weapon.....and there isn't much you can't beat on your first try. Imo, they shouldn't have given you exp for mobs in the online quests because it really unbalances it.

As for your avatar, would it have killed them to have a female or male voice that goes "Mm hmm" for yes or "uh-uh" for no when there are cut scenes and you are in them? You just stand there, if you are even in the scene because your avatar is not in all of them, and nod or shake your head like a mute. lol

If you suffer from OCD like me, lol, then the weapons and armor enhancing/binding will drive you absolutely batty!! Its a really sweet system and if they could have ironed out the over leveling aspect, it really would have given more to the game.

And the Georama....well I loved the Dark Cloud series so I'm biased when it comes to this. It really extends the life of the game if you get caught up on it because it can be darn expensive to expand!

There are some aspects of the game that are spot on and then there are some that need adjustments and some that just need to go. It's a great first draft and I am REALLY looking forward to a sequel or another RPG using many of the elements in the game.

Indeed, I have enjoyed every minute so far, an have only played for maybe 9 hours now? Got it when it came out so yea, you kno i was ready for it. So much about it is new yet familiar. The combat system gives many possibilities. The story mode, great! so far at least>_> hope leonard doesnt do nething stupid...or my personal char. which i doubt cus ...as well as they put him or her into the game....i still feel like im just...'there'. None-the-less I prefer the idea actually of not being some "sidekick" heck nah Leonard! TO Quote ninja ninja from Afro Samurai game.."We aint friends, per say...Ive just been hanging out with the guy..lookin for some action". lol. While on the topic tho, I haz one question..Ive seem others rooms looks like its there Georama setup with all kindsa sweet stuff...am I also able to use my custom Georama for a room on the net? I looked but could not find anything for it. Also something to poke fun at...I bypassed the rabbit thingy that first gives u the deed for georama at start of gamle...I was so ready to get on with the story.

Re: White Knight Chronicles International! like an mmorpg, but free!

You need to talk to that Georama rabbit to unlock edit georama and visit Georama in the save point/world map menu screen, it's in GeoNet or something. using Georama helps reading all the guide. You need to place buildings, residents and stuff, to upgrade it further, which gets more expensive.

Then on GeoNet you go to Hometown and shift through 2 or 3 pages where it says you can upload your Georama. GeoNet is a bit overwhelming and confusing at first (not sure how to send friend requests or accept friend requests, or even how to friend/player invite into a room, but the option is there.

Nuuuu! it's still very rare to find in JRPGs these days! new JRPGs like FFXIII are strictly a single player only game.
No online play features at all. WKC is revolutionary compared to games like FFXIII. Also, it's virtually the only console
game people can enjoy in the size and gameplay flavor of an mmorpg. It does many things right that even FFXII should learn from.
The towns are some of the most masssive I've seen in an offline story! I would of liked Humes to have a hometown like Balandor!

The cut scenes are cool but the voice acting is flat at times. Also the little ad libs you get while walking around is annoying at times. When I'm enhancing and binding and going back and forth I do not need my pt members constantly saying little quips about "is this the right way" or "we need to get going" blah blah blah.

The voice acting is perfect to me! ya I admit the repeated ad libs are strange. But they do update their comments as the story progresses! It's a feature to fill in even more party interaction in a light way. Plus I think the voices option can mask it. Though it doesn't bother me in that it would convince me to check the audio options.

It's also another game that holds your hand. You get on a map, and the maps are HUGE, and there is a big flashing star on the map to show you where you need to go next. I decided not to use my map at all so that the game would have a more difficult element to it.

well at least it's better than FFXII in that you can actually TURN OFF the map radar! Using the full map is entirely optional.

You also can easily level your character while doing quests online so your character when its offline is uber and just creams bosses. Top that with enhancing and binding a weapon.....and there isn't much you can't beat on your first try. Imo, they shouldn't have given you exp for mobs in the online quests because it really unbalances it.

I don't agree. This game in a way encourages playing through the story, then the online.

People should play through the story FIRST before they go online. Ya, the story still is a little on the easy
side regardless, but I lost like about 2 times through the story. It's a good difficulty balance. Besides, I don't think you
can buy all the Quests without progressing the story to unlock the other parts of the world, because the advanced quests take place in the later locations. So either way people will have to progress in the story to have more quests to play and better XP.

As for your avatar, would it have killed them to have a female or male voice that goes "Mm hmm" for yes or "uh-uh" for no when there are cut scenes and you are in them? You just stand there, if you are even in the scene because your avatar is not in all of them, and nod or shake your head like a mute. lol

They wanted to leave it up to our imagination! Yes I agree our avatar should interact with the characters, but I am already pleased with how they added the avatar to the scenes. I mean sitting with the heroes by a campfire, and running
away with Eldore and the others as the dungeon collapses, it really ties us to the characters, events and story a little better.
I really love the avatar feature and at least adding them to some of the cutscenes to feel a little more connected to the group. I loved how the beginning introduces us!

If you suffer from OCD like me, lol, then the weapons and armor enhancing/binding will drive you absolutely batty!! Its a really sweet system and if they could have ironed out the over leveling aspect, it really would have given more to the game.

if you mean the story, there is no over leveling if people play the story first! Besides, people interested in playing through again in New Game+, will be "overpowered" anyway (like Chrono Trigger new game+), but I believe that is good because I think the most advanced online quests are going to demand far greater levels than what's required to complete the story.

I'm just so glad the story didn't require hours/days of grinding. It favors fun over frustration.

And the Georama....well I loved the Dark Cloud series so I'm biased when it comes to this. It really extends the life of the game if you get caught up on it because it can be darn expensive to expand!

Ya I leveled mine up to 4, But I'm more interested in the quests than upgrading my town. Everyone else's town looks better anyway, and I don't think anyone cares who's town they are visiting. :p I do love the building animations, they like have a bouncy smoosh animation when placed, kind of like marshmellows! reminds me of Legend of Mana.

There are some aspects of the game that are spot on and then there are some that need adjustments and some that just need to go. It's a great first draft and I am REALLY looking forward to a sequel or another RPG using many of the elements in the game.
I don't think many JRPG or RPG companies are smart enough, ambitious enough, and creative enough to deliver the quality that White Knight Chronicles delivers, offline and online, and combining the two. As well as your own very customizable avatar that gets to be in the story, and everyone's equip are visible in gameplay and even in cutscenes.

Certain games manage to deliver SOME of those features and quality, but NOT ALL AT ONCE like WKC has accomplished.
Look at Two Worlds for example. What a disaster of a game. the offline character creation was limited, and the online was a mess and overall the game felt cheap.

But ya White Knight Chronicles 2 is being developed, so maybe there is a good chance we will get it too!
A lot of people want to have their own Knight transformation online, though I'm not sure if WKC2 will allow us to make and customize our own Knight. That would be super duper awesome beyond words
(though it might be a challenge to balance online)!!!!!!!!! The Knight combat in the story reminds me of Xenogears in a way, but much better.

                  Verto!

They do have a Gundam sort of look to them! If I can make my own knight, Id want it to be a ninja of some sort^^ Go all out with crazy quick 11fold+ combos like my character does now XD wielding a dang Ripper knife doing his own "dancing Edge" an "Evisceration" lol.

You can't deny people who honestly love a game.

anyways, here are some discussions going on among WKC players. such as rein and new game+

Some have been saying an effecient thing to do is:

                        1. Complete game.
                        2. Start NG+
                        3. Gather GR7 Gear from chests in NG+
                        4. Grind to GR7
                        5. Gather GR8 Gear from chests in NG+
                        6. Grind to GR8.
                        7. Rebirth
                        8. Go online and start the real game.
Somewhere in 6 you will hit 50."

"You don't need NG+ to rebirth, you can reload your game save after beating the game and do it too. You will spawn at the save point before the final boss, but you will have completed the game, all the merchants have new stuff, and you unlock the reincarnation quest at sinca."

"Ng+ is a waste of time you dont need it,
you can reincarnate with out Ng+ and you can all the items through Binding,
so the only real reason you want to do Ng+ is if you liked the story that much, or you dont want to do a little grinding"

"It's more than a little grinding.
It saves you a ton of time to just rush through NG+ collecting the GR7+ equipment."

"If you run past all enemies, collect chests, skip scenes, and know where to go, you can do it FAST
I started a new game and was out of creedes underbelly withi 3-4 hours. Prob could beat the game in 5-6 if i got the teleporters correct."

So there you have it. Binding fans don't need to worry about NG+, but people who want full access of all the world map areas to unlock quests,
probably are best reloading their completed game save if they don't want to go through the story again. Either way, there's two ways to
get GR7+ equipment. Either Binding or NG+, so it's up to the player.

Ahah, see I was dedicated to my play style, but I was interested in trying something else. Usually my fav. class styles are samurai and thief..or ninja ^.~v. Im a fan of japanese culture, what can I say? I just now have started in Greede, wont say much of nething else for spoiler sake xD. I think you may know where i am Jenova. It was confusing at first but I got on track now. So if I do this rebirth quest, I go back to level 1, an keep my learned skills? Is that right? I think I may have misunderstood what you said.

You go back to level 35 with all of the points that you would have recieved up to that point, plus an additional 40 points. I believe on Gamefaqs there was a guide posted that said you can do this up to a max of 4 times for earning points, and after that it's simply to re-specialize your character.

You can't deny people who honestly love a game.
Pardon me if your "love" for games never comes across as genuine.

                                1) Nuuuu! it's still very rare to find in JRPGs these days! new JRPGs like FFXIII are strictly a single player only game.

                                2) The voice acting is perfect to me! ya I admit the repeated ad libs are strange.

                                3) well at least it's better than FFXII in that you can actually TURN OFF the map radar!

                                4) I don't agree.

You just stand there, if you are even in the scene because your avatar is not in all of them, and nod or shake your head like a mute. lol

                                5) They wanted to leave it up to our imagination!

                                6) if you mean the story, there is no over leveling if people play the story first!

                                1) And thats why I used the word EXCEPT. I said the online content wasn't typical but that you will see it utilized more often in the future since online gaming is one of the aspects of gaming in this day and age. Other than the online content, the game is a typical JRPG that is quite easy.

                                2) The ad libs aren't strange, they are stupid, annoying, and repetitive. I don't just whiz through a game, I play the hell out of it. I like to level up more than most people, kill every mob in the game, do every quest, forge every weapon/armor, etc. The little ad libs are basically reminders of what you need to do next. "Where is the South Gate?" "Are we going the right way?" and if I'm in the middle of doing extra content, I do NOT want these constant ad lib reminders of what I need to do next. It's unnecessary. As for the voice acting, no its not perfect. Go play Uncharted 2 and see how well done the acting is there. They did the voice acting during the motion capture so its smooth because the actors could interact with one another. Some games record the actors doing their parts individually. This can lead to a flat disjointed interaction between characters. It's not a huge issue in most cases but it is something that can be improved upon.

                                3) Yes having the option of turning off the maps is excellent and something that I wish more companies would do. Some gamers like a more intense round of gameplay where others might like to have it a bit easier. They can accommodate both but it will cost a bit more and take more effort.

                                4) Just the opposite, the game encourages online play right from the start. Why are you giving access to quests and told about online gameplay if they are encouraging you to play after you beat the game? That makes no sense at all.

Yes the story is easy and I'm sure if you just go through playing without any extra leveling, it might actually give it more challenge. As it is, I rarely used my Knight ability in boss battles. If I did, 3 hits and the boss was dead.....wtf..

                                5) It's not like creating and using your own avatar is unique. Even seeing it in cut scenes isn't unique...FFXI? It's just that the interaction is a bit wooden and a little grunting would have made it a tad better at the very least.

                                6) You keep harping that the game isn't too easy if you don't utilize the online content until after you beat the game. Thats just silly. Its one of the reasons people buy the game. I guarantee that some people look at it as the same old jrpg crap but then see the online content and the Georama aspects and decide to take a chance. So now you are telling people that the option that interested them in the game, they should not bother playing with until after beating the game.....seriously?

Sorry but I'm going to disagree with you on several points. I can look at a game objectively and see its faults....I really don't think you can do that. You just fly into the fanboy zone as soon as you like something.
