So it seems the new Front Mission is a 3rd person shooter WTF and it's not a 360 exclusive. Worst of all is it's being made by Double Helix, the same assclowns that made Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Think I'm going to pass on this one.

Well, the title implied this FM game was going in a different direction. FM Online was also action-based, so that's probably a foundation for this project in some respects. You also have to admit that even for a strategy RPG, Front Mission is almost too in-depth. If I wanted to take hours to set up and finish a mission, I might as well be doing a tabletop RPG.

Also, SH:H seems to have fared as well as the previous two games. I don't see the problem with the game unless you have something against Americans developers continuing what the Japanese developers started. But in that case, that was Konami's descision and they felt comfortable leaving it in someone else's hands.

Metroid seemed to do well in the hands of an American team. I think its more about a constant flow of communication between both sides. Nintendo seems to have a lot of experience doing that now. I can't vouch for Konami, but I put SE's practically anal attention to details on par with Nintendo. They'll be watching it carefully, I'm sure.

I guess they dscided with the action angle that it would be suitable for PS3 players after all, though I still think it would a waste given Playstation gamers really only seem to care about Final Fantasy. They were ready to get out the torches and pitchforks when they assumed nothing about FFXIII would be shown at E3. They're going to be disappointed regardless, because the FFXIII team isn't coming to E3 to answer questions because for the fears of swine flu still going around.

I think that's a reasonable safety measure, but hey, who am I to question the sanity of fanboys.

Am I the only one hoping that FF14 is a Mega Man 9 style return to the SNES glory days? Would be very easy to make that multiplatform too.

Plus, such a game could be epicly huge. Like hundreds and hundreds of hours long huge. Like Makes-Elder-Scrolls-Look-Like-A-Light-Gun-Game long. The old SNES games are, I think, around 4MB at most. Could easily make a game of similar graphics and sound, but just multiply it by 50. 200MB, 1000 hours long, a story that would make War and Peace look short, etc. It would be the most epic evar.

Because the western Sony audience has already proven a few times they don't care for the Front Mission series. Just off going off the top of my head here. Putting it out to an audience more used to this kind of game actually makes sense as they might actually make money off of it. Crazy idea, I know.

You know, kinda like how Sony's western audience proved they don't deserve another Dragon Quest game. Just look at DQ8 - the sales were depressing over here and it was one of the top RPGs on the console. Now the franchise is practically Nintendo-exclusive. DQ didn't really expand well on the Playstation brand, so not surprising they're putting practically the whole series with Nintendo now.

Oh just shut the fuck up would you? Your constant QQ over anything I post is just as or more annoying than when I bitch about stuff (and I know I get on people's nerves). I was making an honest criticism in relation to the average timing of the release of each expansion.

There's roughly a 1.5 ~ 2 year gap between each one, and we're right on schedule for SE to start teasing us with info on the next one was my point. I've still got plenty of things to do in-game so I can wait, I just love to speculate when new tidbits are released ^^ (I'm also curious about the potential 2 new jobs the devs talked about in an interview)

On topic, Joystiq has reported on this as well and they think it could be FM for the 360.

I think all the Mini expansions are just their way of making way for this new MMO they have coming out to PC, Xbox, and PS3. the "rapture" game.. looks similar to FFXI.. same team I do believe.. so maybe it's an expansion/sequel/anything else you can put a / to to make more sense out of the rumors lol.

I have all 3 consoles actually, I just like playing stuff on my PS3 more and I don't see why they'd make this exclusive (I'm still pissed they made Star Ocean exclusive wtf)

I just find the dual shock to be the most comfortable controller ^-^ (Except for FPS... for some damned reason the 360 controller feels better when playing an FPS)

This is definitely Front Mission 6 (trademarked as Front Mission Evolved in the US). Those are the same audio samples used from FM5.

2ch claims that the game is going to be a pure RTS and will be 360/PC exclusive.

If this turns out to be the case, its probably a move for the better, the Sony playerbase on the western side doesn't seem to appreciate the turn-based Front Missions because they don't require ADD like the other turn-based strategy titles Sony gets at present.

Not hatin' on Disgaea, just calling a spade a spade here.

Front mission 4 was the last one we got and despite high praise from critics and being as deep and good as any Front Mission game, no one bought it. Front Mission 4 was a throwback to when those kinds of games would require thoughtful planning before deployment and over an hour of play or more just to beat one level.

Coverting it to RTS and trying to get the Xbox/PC market into it might be for the better. Though it does beg the question of if they'd bring over FMO if it worked out.

Wrong. Well, yes it is the next of the 3 coming out, but these 3 mini-expansions are not a substitute for the next big one, which is what i was getting at.

So basically (saying this for like the 100th time now between various ppl who don't keep up) they have 2 dev teams atm. One that's dedicated to the mini-expansions lead by the guy who wrote the original FFXI story, and the regular guys who are working on updates, 2 more jobs (though nothing is final atm) etc. SE is due for announcing at the least the name + sketchy details of the next major expansion, though at the rate they're going we probably won't see it until 2010 instead of late this year.

The three Mini Expansions are TAKING THE PLACE OF the next "big" expansion. They're seeing if these things work *better* then full scale, disc based expansions and if they do they *won't* make any more of them. The amount of people working on FFXI currently is unimportant because there's always been two teams, one working on current stuff the other working on future stuff. If these mini-expansions are a big hit, SE will do more content like that instead as it saves them money from not having to distribute hard disc copies of the game and saves players effort as they don't have to hunt it down. But at this moment in time, there is *no* "next big expansion".

So enjoy WotG, it's gonna be around for a while.

I want to know what the rewards are for completing the other two mini-expansions.

More Augmented junk and repeatable key quests.
