Even Chrono Trigger for the DS got released at the same time for NA/JP areas. FFXIII was going to be another title that was going to see global release until M$ got involved. FFXIII was never intended for the 360 as it will have to be downgraded to even get ported, as well as being held on multiple discs. The 360 didn't want the PS3 to have such a major exclusive because in the end that's how they win the "console war". Not with a better system, but with "more" exclusives.

SE didn't port Chrono Trigger. Also there was nothing to be done except porting. You can't port a game until its finalized.

FFXIII is a significantly larger project then any of their other recent titles.

So what? It doesn't mean NAs would have gotten it on time regardless. History tells us otherwise.

because of the lovely 360 launch we have to wait untill over a year away. Just if you wanted another reason to hate 360's and microsoft all you PS3 owners

I was gonna import anyway.

Thinking about it I'll probably import al lot of japanese PS2 games too (like X, X-2 and the persona games), just need to adjust my PS3 to be region free for PS2 games.

But because of the new region distributions (since Japan and America -continent- are in the same region for games and blu-ray movies) I'll probably never buy NA versions of JP PS3 games unless they include Japanese audio like Valkyria.

Yes it sucks that the game comes out later in other countries but its been like this since the dawn of video game time. Why are we so bent out of shape that its happening again then? Because they said that they wouldn't do it that way this time?? Come on, how many times in a games development/release have we been told one thing and then something else happens or what they said doesn't happen at all?? Honestly people!

This is because SE chose to delay the PS3 release.

It was supposed to be out for us as well in Dec on PS3 but since the decision to multi-platform it, the game has been delayed.

This is old news.

It's a 60Gb PS3 so they just need to put a chip on it to make it region free. (For PS2 games)

Or it was because they realized that lots of Japanese RPGs were being released on the 360 and they wanted in on that.

Or because they realized exclusivity is a big risk this generation.

MS money hats could be involved, but I think there was a bit more to it this time.

Sorry, I agree with Kitten. It was more than MS throwing money at SE. The FF franchise is huge, SE knows that. The big wigs are thinking "how can we make more money?" and I'm sure someone suggested going cross platform like a lot of games do nowadays. I'm sure the seed was there before MS even entered the picture suggesting it to them. Companies bottom lines are to make money and going cross platform is going to do that. The pittance they'd have to drop to port it over to the 360 will be worth the effort and SE knows that. Did MS sweeten the pot by offering them a larger piece of the pie? Possibly, but I imagine it didn't take much.

Fyi, its obvious that you are biased Tickmeoff with the way you talk about the 360 and MS. It's hard to have a conversation with someone that can't look at things objectively.

I don't doubt SE didn't have a problem with going cross platform, but is it necessary to delay the US release so it can come out for both at the same time? It can still be cross-platform, but why was it necessary to delay the US's ps3 release to coincide with the 360 one? The way it is now, there's big numbers for both consoles on release. PS3 first means big numbers for PS3 and nothing to start off with for 360. 360 will eventually get the port, but they'll lose some sells to people willing to buy a ps3 to play it sooner. It seems plausible that MS payed SE to delay the US release so it could be released for both platforms at the same time.
