Awesome stuff. Too bad it seems there won't be any sliding. I can do without buster charging, but I really liked sliding.

Also, Inafune must really like water-based, polearm-wielding robot chicks. First Leviathan, now Mermaid Woman.

Well... ok yeah, but my bottom line is, you cant dismiss a game just because of its art style

and yeah going 8-bit in this case is an art style choice ;p

no many here maybe dismissing the game on that account, but in other places, many are, and all we can do is just play a great game they will miss out on.

I SAID if you cant appreciate the 8-bit style of MegaMan 9, then you are not a true MegaMan fan

How in the hell can you call yourself a fan, if you turn around and say things like "omg MM9 looks like that, thats crap, I wont get it"

8-bit is where he started, and where 2 of the best MM games exsist (MM2 and MM3) and its where MM9 is going back to.

The game wont be "crap" or "stupid" its going to be a true MegaMan game
But Kailea, whether MM2 and 3 were some of the "best" Mega Man games is terribly subjective. The early games look, feel, and play differently from the later games. It's perfectly possible - and ok - for someone to dislike the NES games, but really like the SNES games (X series included - X1 was released before MM7) and MM8.

How can you say what's a "true" Mega Man game? Inafune said Powered Up is how they meant for Mega Man 1 to look like originally. So which one is the true MM1? Even within the NES games, how can you define what's the "true" gameplay? Should MM9 not have charging and sliding because those were implemented later?

Quite frankly I think MM1 was just "ok." Its presentation was terribly underwhelming. That's true. Supposedly Inafune had to tweak the plot for MMZ story to account for the fact that Zero wasn't dead though. Probably the reason why they mesh.

P.S. Sorry for the double posts. Forum is rejecting long posts for some reason.
not saying people are not worthy because they have not played the old megaman, did not say that anywhere in my post....

I actually consider the Zero ending of X-6 to be the end of the series as it's the only one that really ties into the MMZ series (remember, he said he'd need to sleep for at least 100 years to get the virus out, and that he was found underground so it all works out)

It's the execution what counts. Look at GTAIV, no matter how you slice it it's pretty much the same game as III, with better graphics and some upgraded features, but other than that it's still the same game and we love it for that.

Why can't they do the same with Rockman?

not everything needs to look new to be fun.

Going 8-bit is a homage to the old games, and I welcome the style choice.

Bunch of damned ingrates I tell ya

I MM (almost) unconditionally. What's wrong with remaking the old games anyway? (in terms of the game itself, not sales etc. Am I really the only one who wants to explore all the old dungeons and boss fights in 1080p with the kind of insane detail MGS4 had?) Just the use of Rush Jet and Rush Marine would make it so worth it.

He tried with Powered Up and it didn't sell well. For the not-quite-so-retro gameplay, there's the Zero series and the on-going ZX series. The Zero series in particular was fantastic because it was very serious, had great presentation, and it finally brought the whole X series to a close. The ZX series is a bit more light-hearted, and it's kind of a new beginning in some ways. The gameplay is even more innovative and challenging than the Zero series though.

I totally agree with you, BBQ. And even when he's making Mega Man games successfully, people still bitch about something or another. Some people yearn for the older games, but if he goes and make a retro style one, people complain about that too. That, or they complain about the repetition, but when he does something different, people complain about how different it is.

As for an all-new game, there IS Dead Rising. It was only recently that I found out Inafune produced it. Don't know how much involvement there was from other Mega Man game staff. Unfortunately I don't own an X-Box 360 so I can't even rent it.

Hmm, can't they just ask fans to preorder the game or something so they see how much money they can potentially make so they can at least go with the high-res 64bit looks instead of 8-bit or something.

PS > To me everything after MM3 and X (the first one) has been completely uninteresting, specially the "spin offs".
