I love it when subjective subjective get subjective subjective in subjective for subjective subjective.

It's hard to debate subjective topics. There's a lot more to it than what's at face value. What might have been poorly written could be excellently recieved. In video games, as in books, you still require an imagination to fill in the gaps.

I wasn't aware Hemmingway, Dickens and Wilde made poorly localized RPGs.

Kefka doesn't talk to the disembodied head of his mother. Kefka would just kill his mother. Kefka does not derive joy from killing one cast member, he gets joy from posioning thousands of people.

Basically, he's The Joker with the god-like power to match the god complex The Joker already had. A Joker with no Batman to stop him. Ultimately, he wanted the same thing Sephiroth wanted, but had much more finesse about it.

Keyword: generally. Not everyone who's had a hard life comes out of it tough as nails. Some actually become more compassionate for it.
OR generally, those sorts that listen to earth spirits are the soft type.

Take your pick, either can apply just fine.

If you're calling it poorly written, I hope the games you're comparing it to make Hemingway, Dickens, and Wilde look like rank amateurs.

And getting emotionally attached is kind of what you do in RPGs. Your fondness for Kefka doesn't seem to be purely analytical.

    >.> I thought that was cute, and now with CC out it makes sense because Cloud reminds her of Zack so much. She was just a nice girl with bigger things on her mind IMO. She didn't exactly have a normal childhood either; Her mother was forced to flee their home in the north and died at the train station in Midgar. She's been hounded by Shin-Ra since she was little so they could use her for their twisted experiments. Her only true love left for a mission one day and never came back or responded to her letters.

I'd give her a little breathing space tyvm. Oh and my final team was always Cloud Barret and Cid >. > (Multi-hit final Limit Breaks FTW!)

Third'd. Stick Cure things on Tifa, the end. I only used Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent even when I had Aeris/th. Worked just fine.

Aeris/th I didn't much give a damn about. She was necessary for 'victory!' I suppose, what in calling the Lifestream out, but eh. They could have made her less frilly in the head. 'Oh, will you take a date as payment?' I seriously had to resist the urge to facepalm.

It had to be the stupidest 'hero meets the heroine' scene ever. And it honestly painted her as somewhat loose emotionally to me. But that's just me.

    Never mind that Great Gospel is one of the best limit breaks in the game ; ;

    I Aerith

Even with Mighty Guard he was still pretty crappy once you got Rikku going. Her mixes were downright broken.

The jobs in FFVII were really only jobs in Limit Breaks, there wasn't a huge difference between loading up Yuffie or Cait Sith with Aeris' materia and loading her up with materia in the long run. In fact, in killing Aeris, Yuffie and Cait Sith gained the opportunity to be useful for something.

FFX characters, by contrast, had actual job elements, albeit much of that was influenced by thier initial placement on the Sphere grid, but much of that couldn't be changed until about halfway into the game. Khimari, however, was completely boned by his placement on the grid and almost useless the whole game for it, he was very dependant on learning Blue Magic for him to even be of use. Thankfully, once he got Might Guard and a few others, he was pretty damn good, but his placement on the grid was still miserable.

Yeah, but you could load Aerith with materia like a pack mule, and lose the least, as opposed to other, more combat-oriented characters(re: almost everyone else). That's why I said she was the closest thing to a dedicated caster in the game.

    I'd have to agree here.

According to Wikipedia, it had sold about 9.5 Million copies by 2004. Even being generous, it's probably not sold more than 11 million total.

WoW has over 10 million worldwide. Starcraft 9.5. Halo 3 8.5.

GTA3, on the other hand, has sold 14.5 million copies.

one thing to consider when you're talking about how popular a game is is it's age-- older games will have sold more copies not only because they've been out longer, but because old disks get lost, scratched, and abused. There's also the matter of piracy, but if they're not going to buy one game they're probably not going to buy a newer version of it.

Regarding Sephiroth's Super Nova Limit Break -
I want a, "You are here sign" included in that.

Also, turning your party into frogs and trying to run while the ball of fire approaches is priceless

And I want FFT and SO2 for the DS dammit!

We wasn't anything remotely close to ditzy. She bore the qualities of someone who was always preoccupied with something more important, and when you're attuned to the voice of a planet in crisis, it's understandable.

I actually got choked up at her death. The player lost both a great key character and the game's most dedicated caster at once.
