IMO WoW is a fun game. It's not generally better than any other MMO, because really it's all about tastes. Personally, I don't like the endgame content in WoW. After you Hit level 60 and end up getting all your Blue Armor, you just end up doing the same two instances over and over again. Or you can do battlegrounds for the rest of your life. FFXI offers Gods, pop NMs, dynamis, the ability to level more than one job on the same character. I also like FFXI's crafting system a lot better. I like how you can break things, and make HQs. in WoW, what you make, is what you get.

That said... having played both FFXI and WoW to raiding end game, I must say WoW is much closer to the game that I want to play; where I don't need to spill my guts in order to 'achieve'.

Seriously though... if I'm required to put large amounts of effort into achieving something, it had better be something more tangible and meaningful then prettier armor in some game and better stats. I'm thinking increased job prospects, durable/qualitative material gains, etc, etc, or even just a better understanding of how important and intresting things function.

... I just wish they'd release Diablo 3.

A lot of people have taken shots at me in this thread, but yours just shows how little you know on the topic. You're not required to put large amounts of effort into anything, and if you're so inclined as to whiff through the content without a single road block WoW really is the better game for you. Play what you enjoy but remember that people enjoy putting model airplanes together and people enjoy putting real airplanes together, yet one takes much more intellegence than the other. Is it more rewarding? Depends on your outlook, but one will pay off a lot more in the end.

What I'm saying is what you do for fun might be worth the world's weight in enjoyment, but you'll find that it might be all for nothing in the end. When I play FFXI I can take home the deep and intricate plot that will stick with me in the back of my mind forever (among other things), but the only thing I obtained from WoW is a hefty headache and a few good memories. FFXI is worth it, WoW is not.

As for the rest of your post if you're so concerned with material goods just sell your account.

no game on the market now is perfect. each of them has problems and drawbacks. both ffxi and wow are great games, they're just directed at different audiences. wow is for kids, as well as for grown-ups who don't have a lot of time to play. ffxi directs itself towards the more grown up, hardcore crowd who have too much time on their hands and need something to do.

there's nothing wrong with either games, unless you count the fact that no game can please every player.

what about the insane ammount of time it takes to max out your character? ffxi is very hardcore in the sheer volume of time and work it takes to do normal things. it can consume your entire life ><. forming parties just to xp, etc... the game itself isn't that hard, but you really need to be pretty hardcore just to play it.

ever tried gardening elemental ores?

wow tries to reach out to just about anyone, which is the beauty of that game. ffxi takes a mind-numbingly, frustrating ammount of work to do everything, which is the beauty of this game, too.

there's nothing wrong with either games. they're both just different.

honestly, my biggest problem with wow is the majority of people the people who play it. a bunch of immature, gold buying, idiotic kids.

That's not hardcore, it's just a thinly veiled cockblock to restrict the speed of progression. What do the majority of people do in FFXI after they've levelled a job to 75? Yep, go back and level another and then another. Why do you think this is?

FFXI has a better community than WoW by far. The key is making players need and depend on each other to progress. In WoW you don't need anyone until you hit level 60. In FFXI you group from the low teens to level 75 and that can take a whole year for your fisrt job. The names of the games also attract different crowds obviously.

Just to make it clear I respect a lot of you, and the reason I post this here is for one: the lack of a good arguement in my life (keeps the brain on its toes and helps expand the thought process), and two: because I feel a lot of you range from pretty to very intellegent. Not all of you of course, you know who you are. I've tried to "converse" with other people, namely my friends that play WoW, about this points and topics but all they do is pretend the problems don't exist. I find that if I present them with a huge list they feel it's necessary to kick start a brain cell and attempt to respond. Somehow they stick their head back into their holes and block it all out.

Anyways here's your current installement of Blizzard incompetence. Look at the huge list of bugs they introduced into the game with the latest patch. All of these problems didn't exist before the patch and most of them have nothing to do with anything listed within the patch notes. I think they upload the game data to their servers with a metal bat.

Navigate to your World of Warcraft folder (default C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
Locate the WTF, WDB, and Interface folders
Remove the WTF, WDB, and Interface folders by deleting them or moving them to a safe location
Verify your World of Warcraft folder no longer includes the above folders
Launch the game

Sorry xD but thats funny. I know thats probably not what it means but...it just looks funny.

I read this whole entire 4-page post and after 1 year and 2 lvl 60 characters ( one in a raiding guild) i have to say that Impaction is about 99% correct in all of his opinions/statements.

LOL, why we discrediting or crediting WOW who cares. I think FFXI looks better and its challenging game but has content I love. WOW may be getting lots of ppl probably cause its way easier than FFXI. Now can you say it has better graphics, better story, better choices in game (FFXI can choose different job any time) while in WOW gotta stick with one job per character? I guess its up to your ideas of a good game is.

wow's graphics look good, though their character models are boreing. not being able to change jobs was not too bad, because it was so easy (and free) to start a new character. better story? there wasn't much story in wow, though -unlike ffxi- the game gave you few hassles when you wanted to do something (which is both a plus and a minus, depending on how you look at it.)
