They lost me on the whole "match the faces" thing. First off, they're poorly drawn and secondly, it seems like a racial profiling sim.

I tend to get a feel for people based on eye contact, body language and handshakes, not skin color.

1- Pretty sure that's intentional. Probably supposed to resemble police suspect sketches -- bad artwork, but good representation of facial shapes and the like. Also possibly randomly generated to control for features other than skin tone.

I got the Fat/Thin test too. Indicated a slight preference for fat people.

Thinking back, it's probably accurate. I always did find Tarutaru and Galka to be the most visually interesting races in FFXI.

I wasn't aware there was bickering in this thread. I just saw Feba commenting on what I said and more or less agreeing with my assessment of it. It may come as a shock, but sometimes Feba and I do agree on things.

I moderately automagically prefer white people, or something.

I liked how they simply asked in the very beginning, but the test itself was interesting. The results are based on how long it takes you to select the answers. It's probably less based on putting faces to faces, and more based on putting words to faces and categories. If it takes you longer to put a bad word to one face than the other, there's your results.

yep, exactly.

basically how it works is it looks at how long it takes you to associate "Good" with black people compared to white people. It really is about racial profiling-- it's testing your snap judgments about people, not your underlying conscious. It's more aimed at determining if you would be more likely to assume a thief is the black man standing nearby instead of the white man, and not so much determining how biased you'd be in, say, selecting job applicants. It's more aobut whether a cop would pull someone over on the basis of their skin tone than whether the jury will rule against them.

We all know what our underlying idea is-- either we're racist in one direction or another, or we're not. What this shows that's hard to find out otherwise is how much we're biased in our snap judgments. And that's something that's not as easy to fix-- that's more of an environmental system. It's not something you can just go "but I really like black people!"; it's something more instinctual.

I got the fat/thin one, too, and I took it, but really, some of those faces were kind of ambiguous. (Puffy cheeks but thin neck?) Also, it really annoyed me how obviously shooped they were, I don't know what would have been wrong with just using real people's faces.

Or maybe, they could have shown full body shots/silhouettes, which would have been equally as effective.
