Was this directed at anything or was this just another statement?

I remember saying that I'd never buy an Apple product and I went to every length to get mp3 players that weren't apple. My first MP3 player was a Creative Labs Zen Xtra and I liked it so much that soon after I purchased a Creative Zen: W which played video as well as music. After that I tried to find a mp3 player to replace the Zen: W but couldn't. I tried the Cowon Q5W and the Archos 605 but they didn't fit my taste. After those I ended up going out on a limb on whether to purchase a Zune or a Ipod touch and I dived on the Ipod Touch wagon and am glad I did. I have owned 2 now within the past 2 years and never had any problems. Why did I buy a second one? Because the 64 GB models have a speed increase and 32GB more space than my last one...(It was also on sale )

So that means you have to lie about Apple's products, support and service to justify your dislike of the product? Other then the evil little people you make up in your mind, no one here really cares if a certain device is or is not right for you.

TGM might've already listed this use, but this was another good one: I had my music collection sync'd to my main computer and the hard drive died. That was the only copy I had of my music of course, so when I tried to sync my ipod touch again on my other computer it said that it would erase everything in my library. I was so glad I had the ability to SSH into the ipod touch because with that I was able to drag and drop all the music folders to my computer and then sync'd to erase and then rebuild. Nothing was lost.

I read a little bit about the jailbreak stuff. Although it seems the 3GS has been broken I'm just not ready to take that leap. Yes I would probably love the freedom, but I'm okay to wait. Gimme some time and I'll be posting how great it is.

It is kind of hard to brick an ipod touch now unless you try to upgrade from a jailbroken firmware to a new firmware that isn't yet jailbreak supported. Even then there is a chance that you can put the ipod in Device Firmware Update mode and unbrick it.

Your definition of portable and my definition of portable must be totally different.

    Are laptops portable?

    Re: Anyone get an iPad?

Since everyone at my school pretty much has Apple's dick permanently lodged into their mouths they had some sort of ZOMG EPIC IPAD RELEASE event at the book store over the weekend. Now they have 4 or 5 of them tethered to a table for people to try out so I figured I would mess around with one for a while today.

After 15-20 minutes of messing with it I honestly have to say I don't understand the point of this product. It doesn't seem capable of anything that an iPod touch isn't, but it's fucking enormous so it is in no way portable. All the apps and basic functionality seem to be the same as other similar iProducts, so.. it's just a big ass, expensive iPod that can read books? Is that really so awesome?

Well, I did get a spot of enjoyment out of browsing 4chan on it and setting an image of Shaquille O'Neal from Kazaam as the background image before leaving.

It will probably sell like hot cakes regardless. Every member of the Apple cult would gladly trade in their own children to get their hands on the next big iProduct regardless of what it does. I would never buy an Apple product anyway , but there doesn't seem to be any reason to drop 599 US dollars on this thing when I could get a laptop with far more functionality much cheaper.

    Short answer yes.

It gives you access to backgrounding and other functions that your iPhone doesn't normally have. Quick toggles that enable you to quickly enable and disable WiFi, Bluetooth, Plane Mode, etc. You get access to what is called iFile which is a file browser. iFile gives you the ability to listen to MP3's downloaded directly to your phone so you don't have to use iTunes. You get access to download managers for Safari which lets you download file types that you couldn't normally download. And to give you access to those files on a PC, you can use iFile to set up a web server to download them unto a PC. You can download bit torrents on your phone (my personal favorite). And your unauthorized apps, I don't know if this is what you mean, you can download cracked apps in ipa form that you normally would have to buy from the iTunes store for free. You can set up widget on your lock screen. You can do themes. You can have vertical and horizontal scrolling icons on the springboard. You can horizontal scrolling icons on the dock. You can set up a stack of icons. You can put more icons on a single page in the springboard (5 rows, 5 columns, etc.) You can shrink your icons, which pairs up with the previous comment. As you have more rows and columns your icons get too close to one another. There is just a ton of shit that you can do with it. It opens it up and makes it so much more useful and user friendly that you'll fall in love with your iPhone all over again.

Fyi, if you update to newer firmware versions you can potentially block your device from being jailbroken so the sooner you do it the more chance you'll have of doing it successfully.

And yes, Rockbox for the iPod is the shizzzz. But I believe that is old school now and there is a better app out. I don't bother since what I have works fine for what I use it for.

iPod is so much more tolerable with Rockbox on it.

    Re: Anyone get an iPad?

Only Apple product I ever owned was a 60gig Ipod of some kind. I'm not all that tech savvy so I don't know what specific type it was (I think it played videos, but if it did I never bothered with them). The only reason why I had it was because my mother won it in a raffle and had no freaking clue as to what it was. Since she didn't know what to do with it, I took it, figured out how to work it and started loading music from ripped CDs onto it. While as an MP3 player I loved it, as a general product I was pretty annoyed by it. I hated the click wheel, hated itunes and generally didn't need 90% of it's functionality. But it was free and easy enough to use so I worked with it until it inevitably broke (i'm not nice to my technology).

Having been my only experience with an Apple product, I was never too 'wowed' by it. So with things like the iPhone and ipad, I just don't see any personal use for them. I'm sure they're great for others and work well and all that, but for me they hold no interest. And while I'm actually in the market for a new MP3 player, I don't see myself ever bothering with an apple product again. For what I, personally, need, they're just too expensive and too fragile. I enjoy my tactile buttons and switches, and hate things with big shiney touch screens because I know it'll get destroyed in no time. And for the price you have to pay to get one of those things, to me, it's not worth it.

I honestly still don't know wtf an ipad is or what it does to be honest, but I'm stubborn and slow when it comes to new tech. I'll stick with my old clamshell cell phone and find myself a nice, cheap brick of an MP3 player to suit my needs.

Everything is situational after all.
Did you jailbreak yours? If you think you love it regularly, once you jailbreak it, you'll build an altar to the god damn thing! lol
