Re: Contacting a congressman is like pulling teeth

If so many citizens of this country find this bill (which is indeed merely a pilfered husk of what it should have been) to be so irredeemably horrible as to mark the end of the world, I don't see why they couldn't just leave . . .

Because emigration isn't as easy as saying "BOO I'M SCARED", and because the proper solution to problems is sometimes solving the problem instead of running away from it. Seriously, either side of the issue, the entire point of democracy is that the people work to solve problems for their own sake, instead of trusting it to small unimpeachable elites who claim to be gods.

That aside, Rush Limbaugh threatened to leave the country if this passes a couple weeks ago. Shame people are never held to statements like that; I'd like to see all of the people who said they'd leave if Bush were reelected given to Canada too. You should stand by your words.

Of course, you totally listen to the show enough to pick up on a joke, right? Even I know a Rush joke when I hear it, I've heard enough of him to know seriousness from a joke.

In any case, leaving isn't an option if it doesn't take hold in the long term. 13 states have already filed their lawsuits. If it does take hold for the long term, what's the real difference between living in the US, Canada, Japan or European nations?

Doesn't really matter. Plenty of people make comments like this in complete seriousness. Shouting tyranny in the US isn't much better than shouting fire in a crowded theatre; it doesn't really matter if it's a joke, especially when you have as many listeners as he does. And it's far too easy to leave the "Oh, but I was being sarcastic" excuse open in politics-- it lets everyone out of everything.

            Fixed.

Radio has spoken words, if you can not detect sarcasm when someone is speaking, you really are dense.

And what do you call the majority of congress not listening to voters, polls or approval ratings saying "we don't want your health care bill" and voting for it anyway?

Good listeners? If so I guess Hugo Chavez is a wonderful listener, too.

Blatantly going against the voice of Americans, strong bipartisan opposition, planning parliamentary tricks and that little abortion drama (which angered Pro Life and Pro Choice groups) seems pretty tyrannical to me, or something just short of it.
