I set my phone to receive email and the battery lasts for 9 hours. I set it to not receive email and I only need to charge it once a week.

Thankfully the contract for my iPhone is up in October, can't wait to get something better instead. Even the original PSP had a better battery life than this.

I'm super annoyed that when I logged out of my e-mail today, Hotmail informed me that they would soon stop account linking. That's the best fucking feature, makes it so much easier to go between my personal and professional accounts. Why the fuck would they disable this ...

Also, while I'm bitching about Hotmail, I'm gonna bitch about their new Outlook interface, which is awful and difficult to use. It took me ten minutes to figure out how to get back into my actual mail after going to the account settings. What a stupid shit interface.

I'm trying to comprehend this bit of bullshit:

I know someone that's fallen on hard times. They strongly feel that where they live runs counter to their lifestyle and career needs and they struggle to find gainful employment in this area. Their family - insisting that they've "done everything" to help them - has really done everything to keep my friend here where they're only getting turned away for jobs and steadily getting more and more depressed.

So a desperate act occurs and they steal some money from the family. Naturally, this didn't improve the situation, only amplified the depression and now they feel horrible about it and want to make amends. The family won't talk ot him, won't even let him in their house to talk... and strangely they're dinging someone else to make up the money that was stolen. A third party is now expected to make up the money even though said third party didn't steal it.

So the person that stole the money, the one who did wrong and genuinely wants to make things right isn't really being allowed to do so or open a dialog while someone else has to make up the money.

Wut?

This family seems really fucked up to me. I really hate these people that call themselves Christians, go to church multiple time a week and are so righteously up their own asses they don't know how to forgive people in their own family. Reminds me of my own family in some respects. Interesting considering the guy they worship was forgiving people even as they killed him.

I dunno, sometimes it does make me wish I was an Atheist.

What else bothers me about this is the family is still considering putting my friend up in a new place... a place that is still here in North Carolina, of course. Its like they want to continue this cycle of misery and depression. When someone says they don't feel they belong here - take the fucking hint.

I'm actually not sure about sticking around here much longer myself. I've given NC twelve years and for what, exactly? Part-time jobs, dead-end temp jobs and one manufacturing gig after another. Its not the direction I wanted my resume to grow in and when I do a good turn at a job - let's just say I have a gift for observing a process and making it more efficient - I just get fucked over and laid off.

Winston-Salem is like a black hole. Even my sister has downgraded from what she went back to college for to working at the YMCA again. She's not pursuing her photography career or being physical therapist like she originally intended. She's back to being an office peon.

I'm looking into my options, but man, fuck this town and this state.

Actual friend, not the quotation mark kind. They're transgender and have come to prefer gender-neutral pronouns so its kinda like practice for me.

I can relate about where we live, the job thing and their family situation a little, but I couldn't speak of their experience with depression though I'd imagine living in a Bible Belt state like NC would exacerbate it a bit. We're not exactly winning points on tolerance down here of late.

I have to go to an interview tomorrow. I hate interviews. I'm not convinced that I'm qualified for the position but my boss is convinced that I am. The problem with interviews is that I know all of my weaknesses and take my strengths for granted. There's also the problem that it feels like the whole interview process encourages people to lie and I am terrible at lying. When an interviewer asks "do you have experience with X" and I don't then I am going to tell them I don't have experience with X, but apparently that's not what you're supposed to do?

Ok, I have a question for some of you, if not all of you. Why is it when people get pissed off and call you "special" because you show that you have a brain versus someone who can't even spell correctly? I was talking with an old friend of mine over Skype and he got rip shit at me for using logic in an argument. I quote him.

"You're not more special than anyone else." <--The hell does using intelligence have to do with being special? I mean after a good hour of arguing with him, I finally dropped the subject. Then he was like "Ya know what, I'm not going to bother with someone who is a punk ass 16 year old." We were arguing over RO statistics (Ragnarok Online) and I had made a mention of a certain class needing their skills nerfed, due to the class having a retarded amount of utility.

Gonna give a quick run down.

RO has a class called Biochemist or Creator what have you. They're able to stack on Resistance Gear like no tomorrow. The biggest resist they have which can cap off at a whooping 60% is Ranged Resist. Which is what most PvP combat boils down to for most classes. They also get a skill called Acid Demonstration which allows them to do both Magical and Melee Ranged damage. It's the in between skill of the game. Since it's both physical/magical at once. They also have the ability to summon a Homonculus (Think of Black Mage Automaton from XI) to their side for nuking people in PVP. What makes the class worse is that Acid Demonstration hits you for 10 times in 1 hit. So you could be hit with like 9k over 10 times in 1 shot. Moving on. What makes the class's utility broken is the new renewal patch, which gives OTHER classes the ability to harness trans skills. (Skills that do not belong to that class) So a Creator who is able to break off and go into the Assassin skill and get Cloak, well there you go. Invisible, can camp with a x 10 hitting skill has a mini black mage that mind you has no CD once it dies and can be brought back instantly. So essentially you're camping with a class that can OHKO you with just their pet alone. -.-

Most HR people can tell how much experience you have just looking at your CV. It's all how you sell yourself.

What you do is spin the truth so you don't have to lie, I do it all the time in interviews. The last time I told the actual truth about experience in the field in an interview, I didn't even get called back for the next one. They just thanked me for my time and showed me the door.

You might not have experience but you can tell them the applicable skills and experience from real life and previous jobs that will be relevant. Plus you can tell them it is an area you are wiling to work damn hard to improve on rather than just admitting "I have zero experience with X". It's good to admit that you know your strengths and weaknesses but the person hiring you is going to want to see that you are willing to work hard on areas that need improvement. Plus a lot of HR guys actually like it when you are yourself and not presenting yourself as what they want to hear.

Remember, it's not lying if you can actually answer the question. You have good IT and Programming skills. Think of the relevant skills and experience that can be extrapolated from that. Think of what you have done over your life that can be used to answer the questions that are given to you.

Interviews themselves are easy. Selling yourself over the competition is the challenge though. A lot of HR people already have decided what kind of person that want to hire before you walk through the door. There's not much you can do about that since pure dumb luck plays a part in that.

It was an MMO Class Balance debate. Of course it will never end well . The easiest way to get the same experience in real life would be to repeatedly ram your head into a pebbledashed wall and when you can't stand any more, get someone else to keep ramming your head into it.

Best example is RDM and FFXI Forums Pre-Abyssea. You only needed to bring up Red Mages during ToAU/WoTG and the thread would implode between people who wanted RDMs to self skillchain and triple cast meteor and Cure V for 0MP, people who wanted RDMs reduced to Cure 1 and only able to equip a rubber chicken, people who wanted other mages to be buffed, people who thought that Auto-Refresh should be given to everyone, people who thought that RDms were fine, people who didn't even know that there were mages other than RDM, people who wanted to be invited on a mage job that wasn't RDM for once, and people who complained about the fighting.

And then sometimes you would get all of the people fighting over who the RDM should Haste first in a pull...

It bothers me on a fundamental level. I was raised with the understanding that lying wrong and you should be honest, but that doesn't get you anywhere in an interview. It's horrible.

Being really nervous about it doesn't help either. I don't think I've ever gone to an interview before where I was confident about getting the position. I might have a whole bunch of relevant experience, but I haven't actually worked that specific job before so I get nervous about whether or not I'm actually qualified. It'd be great to go into an interview knowing that I could do the job just fine, it would make the interview so much more relaxed.

Pick a small issue, blow it up, polarize the voters, and recruit the ones that land on your side of the argument. But this is atypical because this goes against the principles this nation was founded on. Oh well.
