Turns out it was a mix of funny-weird malfunctions with both my HD and the Video Card. He didn't explain it very well... but suffice to say it's all better now. thank god.

What matters is that it works now. He just started up the defrag and headed out the door a few minutes ago. I'll be getting home to a perfectly working PC once again.

TL;DR One or more power, fan and/or SATA cables were loose because of the movement the rig was subjected to and Yggy panicked when the comp didn't start.

I checked and re-checked all the connections. It wasn't a connectivity problem. Something screwed up the HDD itself. After he got it booted back up and running, FFXIV worked fine but Firefox, IE and Chrome wouldn't open. They kept force closing and erroring out. All 3 had to be uninstalled and he used my laptop to download the install files for firefox again to re-install it.
All in all... nothing major. I only panicked because in the 2 hours I fiddled with it last night, nothing worked. After consulting with a few people including CID, the resounding theory was that I had shorted out my mobo. With me stuck here at work and someone else opening up my PC, I always get scared. I don't like people in my PC when I'm not there to supervise.

Btw, the one thing you do need to be very attentive to is the possibility of the CPU's heat sink to move out of position or even decouple from the proc. itself. And if the heatsink is too heavy and gets glued to the proc. by the thermal paste it can actually pull the proc. out of the socket and in the case of older processors even bend the little uh... legs the proc has.
Which can be pretty messy to fix.
Other than that it's usually loose cables (or cards) in one way or the other.sigpic

I do have 2 in there now... but the second one is crap and I have it hooked up to the second monitor to use exclusively for web browsing. Bandwidth caps. I'm 17 GB from my monthly limit and the Diablo 3 beta client is 15 GB. The counter resets on monday. fml. Same phenomena lost me about a week and a half of free SWTOR.Comment
