You could always use Shout, or like Dak said brands that have Febreeze right in them. I find that All is a good brand to use, there was another one I liked but I forgot the name of it. It was like a spanish detergent, worked very well on my dark clothes. Are your shirts light or dark? Since lighter shirts absorb less heat and therefore are easier to wash since you don't sweat as much in them, dark shirts are a pain to wash due to the amount of sweat/heat they generate making it hard to get them clean. :c

You could try mixing bicarbinate of soda with a little water into a paste and apply to the inside of the armpits and give it a little rub, Leave it on for a little while and turn it inside out then put it into your washing machine and wash as normal.
I used to do this on my nursing tunics when my anti perspirant would turn my whites a funny colour. (before the fancy products were common)
I wash most of my clothes inside out, Especially jeans and tshirts with prints on, I find they hold their colors longer and the prints don't get destroyed as fast.
Also try to hang them to dry either on hangers/frame or a washing line. My other half has a tendancy to put clothes away before they are completly dry.
Damp armpits and crotches will give a damp musty (a wet senstation in the nose reminds me of an old pond) smell when hung up prematurely.
Also make sure you are washing at the correct temperature, For both the clothes and the detergent you use.
Give the door to your machine a feel when in use to make sure it's reaching the temperature you're asking it to.
