Re: Star Trek
Star Trek Into Darkness trailer (Japanese subtitles for some reason)
So the the Rewrath of Khan. I hope Spock isn't going to go and get himself killed this time.
At least this time out we're probably seeing the full arc of Khan and he and Kirk will have an epic scrap this time. Wrath of Khan was great, but Shatner and Montalbon were already too old for that shit when they filmed Star Trek II.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 12-10-2012, 06:16 PM.

Re: Star Trek
At this point that just has to be Khan. The sorts of things he's doing in the trailer are the kinds of things we only heard about TOS Khan doing, but they go into great detail some of the novels about Khan's exploits and there's more than a few similarities from "Space Seed" and a lot less Wrath of Khan going on here.
Its possible in the new Star Trek universe that its someone else, and if it is, I think Gary Mitchell is a strong candidate as there's some potential similarities to his character and the sort of solutions Star Trek II employed to save the day.
Or it could be both, Gary Mitchell leading the remnants of the Augments from the Eugenics Wars.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 03-22-2013, 05:35 AM.

Re: Star Trek
Saw it yesterday.
Much like the previous film you can go into this movie not knowing much about Star Trek at all, but it helps to have at least seen the previous movie as it does have some strong connections. For existing Star Trek fans you'll find a lot of fun references here and there that I think I would only have let them get away with in this one movie because it puts some good, meaningful twists on what might have otherwise been shameless fanservice. Anyone that's seen all the other films and some of the original series will get what I mean.
As with the previous movies, everyone is in-character and nails it, though Sulu got less action this time out and Chekov was about the same as before. Hopefully they get more time to shine next time around, but the rest of the cast got lot of screentime and Uhura was a bit more involved and brought a lot to the table. Benedict Cumberbatch does a fantastic job as the villain and ends up being one of the best found in the films.
The movie doesn't directly set us up for a sequel, but the plot does show the potential for a new/old conflict on the horizon. Its definitely something the third movie should focus on while here it just felt like a small taste of how treating this particular race is. Since we've already seen plenty of Romulans, Vulcans and humans its time to go there - especially now that their ships seem a touch more agile.
As with the prequel, this movie is one of the best Treks of the pack.

Re: Star Trek
Me to excellent film say yesterday, no spoilers for me but I think pegs portrayal of scottie is better in this than the first, disapointed sulu didn't get more action but their is lots of action and a role reversal at the end which was a nice twist.
