  • USB Keyboard problem

I have a problem with my Razer Marauder keyboard. When I first bought it a few weeks ago, it was working fine and dandy, but now windows doesn't recognise it.

This is what I have done.
    -Restarted
-Changed USB ports (Keyboard uses two)
-Attempted to troubleshoot (Just says that there was a hardware change but no option to repair)
    -Google'd, couldn't see anything helpful.
-Restored system to 5 days ago (When it was working)

Is there anything else I can do before I have to send it to the manufacturer?

Edit - After restoring system, it installed windows updates again... could this be the issue?

    Re: USB Keyboard problem

You can try this: With the keyboard plugged in, go to Add/Remove Hardware in your Control Panel and uninstall the keyboard. Unplug it, then plug it back in.

Okay I've done as you asked, this is after reset:
      Pic1

Circled is what I uninstalled, again after reset.
      Device Manager:

It seems to be contradicting itself, or have i done something wrong? I haven't changed any settings and the keyboard itself doesn't require any software to run as a generic keyboard.

I've never heard anything good about Razer. The reviews mostly mention shoddy hardware and craftsmanship, but some do mention difficulty with the drivers. Logitech ftw.

HID stands for Human Interface Device.

Here's what I came up with on the Razer site:

          Driver 1.02:
          http://www.razersupport.com/index.ph...d=572&nav=0,85

          Download and install this first.

Firmware updater 1.02 for Razer Marauder Keyboard:
          http://www.razersupport.com/index.ph...d=518&nav=0,85

Download and install this after you install the driver.

          See if that helps.

            Re: USB Keyboard problem

Oddest thing. The drivers seemed to install fine, but now the device manager believes that the mouse (which has been working fine the whole time) is now both?

            eh?

            This is really confusing.

            Edit: Also, still not working.

Thank you for your time and patience Icemage. I guess this proves it wasn't me

                  Update:

My program-tester friend at my request tried to see if it'd work on his PC, he tried 3 different sets of USB ports and it didn't work once. He also has Windows 7, which gives more weight to the theory that it was an update that's caused the problem.

                  /sigh

1- Yes, Dak, Logitech all the way
2- If you're so sure it's a software issue, and not a dead device, try popping in an Ubuntu LiveCD or LiveUSB; see if that will run it (as a generic keyboard anyway). Hardware defect is perfectly possible as well.

Hmm I'll try that, got nothing to lose.

I try not to fool around too much with my PC as I'm paranoid about breaking something so trying another OS didn't occur to me...
