  • Spec test

Ok, I have been looking for a good computer for some while, and I now seem to have found what I have been looking for.

Though I would like your "expertise" to tell me how it would run FFXI, here are my specs:

    IntelP4 3000Mhz

    160GB Harddrive

    1024MB Kingston DDR

    Geforce FX 5700LE 256MB

I hope it will run it almost smoothly, without too much lag.

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Spec test

i'd get a bigger hard drive and an Nvidia 6600 or 6600 GT. But that will "run" fine. prolly could do 1024x768 and bump mapping. or 1280x1024 without bump mapping.

If you have your heart set on a 5700 generation/price, then I suggest a 9600 pro or XT. Or a 9700/9800 pro or XT. But a 6600 GT beats those on benchmarks (I have one). Try to avoid the Nvidia FX 5XXX models if at all possible. I had a 5600 and hated it.

I have that video card, and it'll run just fine for you, it's not a pci-express card if your planning on staying away from pci-express. You should be getting a pc compatible with pci-express, and if you want a higher end video card, the cards mentioned in the previous post are ok.

Just thought I'd make it clear I meant AGP cards.

Edit: Also stay away from Nvidia XT (Nvidia gimped) and ATI SE (ATI gimped) models. The ATI XT models are top line hence Nvidia name their gimped models after them to take advantage.

i got a 5700 ultra EX or w/e it is, it was only out for a few months and uses that second generation DDR ram. i love the card, i got it overclocked on nothing but air, and it runs like a charm. i run (this is non-jeuno/dynamis settings) 1280x1204 foreground 2048x2048 background with all settings in the external configs maxed, shadows off, footsteps off, weather off and animation at lowest rate and maintain 12fps easily in most places, for laggy areas i put foreground at 1024x768 and background at 1600x1600 and i've only occasionally dropped below 12 fps (thats my personal cut off) everything is 100% fluid at anything over 8fps so max settings are for ppl who want to show off. the game has a built in cap of 29.5 FPS, my friends rig "Trogdor" which runs sli 6800 GT extremes and a athlon FX-55 and it still goes at 29.5 FPS with every single setting maxed, 2048x1535 ( i think i got the last number right, at least close) foreground and 2048x2048 background and his 3mbit dsl ends up bottle-necking his performance. fyi, before u max the games settings, u might want to turn up AA to get better picture (i use 2x or 4x depending on what i got running in the background, audio-encodes and BT is so proc intensive it doesn't matter what my gfx card is doing, i can't take advantage). the 5700 was the best of the 5xxx series, and for all intents and purpose the only one to be considered from the series. 6600 and 6800 are ur best friends and u couldn't force me to purchase a radeon.

Keyura, what is the speed of your cpu? Is it overclocked? Sounds like you're getting great performance from a 5700.
