  • Celeron vs... uh.. anything?

Uh.. yea.. well.. is the Celeron better or worse than the Pentium 3.. I have a 1.2GHZ Celeron... Is this a major problem?

I think I did the math once and I figured out that a Celeron is 500-1000 points less than a pentium 4 2.4 I believe...
    but I'm not exactly sure..

    Just tell me,

    Celeron and FFXI?

    Is it possible?

Is my processor lower thanthe minumum requirments?

    oh boy..

    celeron=DEAD :dead:

The P3 is much better than a celeron. WHY? because the celeron has HALF the cache of a normal p3. Even if the celeron is faster (p3 800 Celero 1ghz). The celeron will lose. They Were built for people who do not use cpu intensive tasks like CAD,Games, ect...

    Go get a cheep athlonXP

or if your rich get a p4 they have much better memory bandwidth.

As for running FFXI. The bench mark is the indicator, short from installing the game to see if it works right yourself. good luck

normal p3 is at 1.4gh(p4 starts at 1.4), and the celeron is up to 1.9gh:sweat: . celerons are like the duron processor, and like the duron, it can be interchanged with the "big brother" chip. celerons fit on p3 boards (most), as durons fit athalon (most again), as long as it fits the max clock speed.

        p4 with motherboard and fans/ heatsink/ other board parts is at $235 if it's a p4@2.4 w/ht tech.

not to beat a dead horse but..

          Well if you look here:

          Well, below it says this..

          Base processor and speed
          Intel Celeron 1.2 GHz
          Socket 370
          100 MHz frontside bus
Maximum upgrade: Intel Celeron 1.2 GHz

Don't tell me this means I can't upgrade my processor at all..!

I'm sure you remember these spec Doppelganger.

          Specs

          Well, anyway, I'm screwed.
My benchmark is going to suck, I know it, even with the Radeon 9200SE and 384 extra RAM.

Why did fate send me this processor?
          It's the only problem!
And once the upgrade's finished, I'm broke.

:spin: Send me some luck fate. :spin:

The Pentium Celerons should not exist...
 That's what you get when you go to walmart.

                hahaha no.

                you need a new mobo
                and ram

                mobo=$60
                ram=$60=512mb
                cpu=50

                $170 for better preformence.....

                  oh boy..

Well, I can upgrade to a Pentium III.... so...
                  Dammit...
                  Well... here's the deal

                  Radeon9200SE $80
                  (2) 265 Ram modules $100

Well what kind of Pentium III can I get for 100 bucks and less and where? I don't have much time... I'm buying the upgrade tomorrow.

I could get rid of the (2) 256 module idea... oh boy

                  Oh wait!

I can get a Celeron 1.7 for 63.99... and I could just well.. only get one 256 Ram module...
This Celeron has 400 MHZ Bus Speed compared to mine.

I'm getting my upgrade at CompUSA...

Will my benchmark be better if this is the result

                  Celeron 1.7 GHZ
                  384MB of RAM
                  Radeon 9200SE
                  Windows XP

                  or this

                  Celeron 1.2 GHZ
                  512MB of RAM
                  Radeon 9200SE
                  Windows XP

... HM... the recommended requirements say only 256MB of RAM... hm...

                    ok..

Sorry to double post, but it wasn't allowing me to edit it.. oh well...

So anyway, I have come to a decision.

I've decided not to stray from he path.
I will go with Doppelgangers suggesiton in the Benchmark Topic.

                    (2) 256 MB of RAM
                    Radeon 9200SE

Like I've said in the past...

"It's better to play FFXI than not play it at all."

                    Well thanks, that was crazy....

I think the benchmark is a bit senitive... meaning
your score isn't the real score.

Remember, benchmarks should not be your relying factor.

                    Good day :dead:

if you have about 400-500, you can completely scrap the motherboard, ram, video card, and cpu. pricewatch price for new athalon xp 2200+, 512mb ddr pc 3200 ram, and a radeon 9500 is about 450 last i checked. you could go all out for about 2500 though. 2gigs ram, 3.2p4, raid 0 config of two 250gig hdd, ati 9800pro, watercooling.

                        oh boy

                        OK ok...

                        Celeron 1.8 GHZ
                        Radeon 9200SE

                        sounds better.

Then, some other time get more RAM..

                        hmm...

                        Celeron 1.8 GHZ

hmm i thought we had unanimously agreed that the celeron sucked? why bother with it. Dont goto compusa they over price. goto www.newegg.com and buy an athlon. dont rush into it...that leads to bad upgrades. I dont wanna see you come ffxi time left in the dust. Go for a athlonxp 2000+and 1gig of ram, they are cheep right now. Dont waste your money your better than that.

                            end

Well I cancelled my upgrade all together. It's not worth the risk.
I'd rather wait for my Ps2 version of FFXI. It's definitly not worth it. I don't need this hassle. I'll leave the computer stuff to the professionals, but they really need to find a way to make this way less complicated. I searched for four months on upgrades, and in the end.. A console is so much better. No benchmark.

                            That's it, end of story.
                            See you Q1 2004.

you can get ffxi for pc and play it. it may not look pretty, or smooth, but you can swich to ps2 version when it comes out and have you char's from pc version

if you go to school, or work with some comp geek, im sure you can convince them to help you build the perfect comp for under 1000 that will do quite well.
