Hardcore anime

Of course, believing that the Evangelions were simple robots was one of the many things that made the series so damn good.

But I do agree that it seems insulting to be so enthusiastic only about the violent action scenes of Evangelion. There is so much more to it than the violence, even though the fights are amazingly done. I wouldn't consider EVA to be a "hardcore" series like that though, as the focus of the series isn't the action, isn't the violence, and isn't even the Evangelions.

If you're asking about over the top extremely gorey hugely violent series, I would have to say that 3x3 Eyes is the most gruesome thing I've ever seen.

The kenshin OVA was pretty bloody indeed, a bit like Princess Mononoke.That's definitely not a kiddies movie.Akira was disturbing as well as blood:the last Vampire.Lain is confusing since the very first episode.Urutsukidôji is VERY CONFUSING,DUSTURBING AND APOCALIPTICAL.not to be seen after having a bad day,even if i don't think the movie was really very good.

But the most hardcore,mind-boggling series that exist is doubtlessly: TELETUBBIES!*how they allow children to see such horror is beyond me!

I guess nobody here has seen Urotsukidoji. It doesn't get any more "hardcore" than that series. NGE and the others mentioned pale in comparison to the definition of "hardcore" established by the starter of the thread.

Ok if you want to Talk hardcore anime lets look at the facts, Owning EVA and Berserk you cannot compare the two but look at their status in Japan. EVA was completed and even Redone (Which I must say was only slightly better than the original ending) anyway Berserk was never completed. Why you may ask because the Japanese felt that it was to contreversial. YES THE JAPANESE now only a true hardcore anime would be shut down by the japanese by being to hardcore.

Well, there are lots of bloody animes! The ones I liked the most : Evangelion (watched it uncut ) Bastard, berserk, Hellsing, ninja scroll & ressurection and demon eyes kyo!

And by the way, The Eva children were 14 years old!

Yes I feel that is great entertainment though I do not believe that hellsing and Bastard are hardcore. Though some of the characters may be. and NON of the eva children got brutaly slain. Though REI I guess but we all know she does not count.

not to mention Misato being shot and blown up, Ritsuko being shot, Gendo being chomped up by Unit 01, and endless numbers of innocent NERV employees brutally murdered....

not to mention Kaworou's squishy squishy which took 5 minutes for Shinji to contemplate.

and Touji died. at least, in the manga he did. well, in the anime his leg got chopped off...

Berserk and Eva, despite being shown on late night/early morning TV, were still shown nontheless. Not to mention the mangas for said series were always more graphic/entertaining overall. The appeal not necessarily because of the violence mind you, but because of the more involved story and drama put into each chapter.

If you want to get into the more hardcore violence and basic scum of humanity anime, I would suggest Koroshiya, AKA Ichi the Killer. It does somewhat take some perserverence to come across but if youre interested enough, you can find it. (Without bothering me I may add)
