Id say the most Hardcore Anime's are... Evangelion and Berserk

Evangelion has a sick and twisted story line which only comes to light at the end, the Evangelion's themselves (EVa's) are extremely huge cyborg's (yes even bigger then gundams!) Through out the series ive become more and more amazed by the eva's and there awsome power, there only weakness is the pilots inside of them.... about age 17 teen, for those of you who love a story lien that really fuk with ur head and some hardcore violence this sif or you.

Berserk is about a warrior named Gatts, the first episode is just a preview of what to look forword to in the series. Many thing in Gatts past lead to him being agressive and blood thursty warrior he is in this anime... he wields an extremely huge sword, whatch this anime has he chops anyone in half who gets in his way and the band of the hawk.

    Define "hardcore."
"For a long time it gave me nightmares... witnessing an injustice like that... it's a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be... I can still hear them taunting him... silly rabbit, tricks are for kids... I mean, WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST GIVE HIM SOME CEREAL!?!" - Carlton Banks

      I'm with Genrou, define "hardcore."

From the looks of it, you are talking about "hardcore" violence (? taking it from your first paragraph about eva). Evangelions aren't really cyborgs, by the way, heh. End of Evangelion is far more shocking and gruesome than anything found in the series.

by Hardcore i did mean violence, and you know tot he extreme.

and peter tryign to make look like i dont know what im talking about.. heh
well at the beginning of the series they are cyborgs.. concidering the have 3 layers of armor and mindings that are attached and inside of them... plus the pilot room, its run through electronics.. so yea they ARE cyborgish...

and man 1 day i downloaded the entire series and movies, the next day i whatched all of it.. think aobut messed up that'd make ya...

and yea i agree the movies are alot more insane then the series.. but any anime should whatch the series first

Now by "hardcore violence," do you mean most gruesome violence, most violence, and/or best violent scenes?

              cy·borg (n)

A human who has certain physiological processes aided or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices.

To simply label them as "cyborgs" takes a lot away from them, IMO, because they're so much more. They have been constrained by electronic bindings and such, and they are controlled by pilots, so I can see why one might call them cyborgs. BUT, by the end of the series, they have a bunch of weights tacked on to them that the title "cyborg" is simply not enough.

But back to the topic. Tons of violent anime out there... hard to narrow it down to just a few. Some anime that just plain sucks is pretty "out there" in terms of what it does in terms of violence (Ninja Ressurection comes to mind...).

Peter im dissapointed you'd limit yourself to the literal restrictions of a dirctionary when it comes to talking about anime, which imo defy's the limits of when we see and know in rl.

and i dont fully mean that they are 100% cyborgs, but if u find a better word to describe let me know.

and when i sya hardcore anime i mean things to the extreme.. everything.. form violence to story line - basically just soemthing that wont bore me as mucha s the rl
maybe i like violent anime and such cuz i gew up whatching them ons aturday mornings instead of seasamy street.. but meh.. imo and in my friends, extreme anime's is the way to go.. i dont get all the ranma fans... crack heads.....

hmm what other anime's are kool.. i thought Record of Lodoss war was pretty awsome though it was not 'hardcore' story line was interesting.. i hink FFXI is somewhat based on it.. a little. the dragons were pretty crazy tho 8/10

X was pretty awsome.. i enjoyed the fight scenes.. needed more though 7.5/10

Escaflowne... was kinda boring there.. but the battle scene were very nicely done. 7/10

hope id otns tep on any toe's wit the 1.. Gundam wing (hvent seen the entire series yet) the story line i felt was kinda weak.. but all in all it kept me pretty entertained. 8/10

Ninja scroll had soem pretty crazy shit 8/10

DBZ, wish these damn canadian channels would continue with the series... (only at kid buu) kinda repedative.. drags on alot.. but it has the mix of comedy and violence 8/10

Ghost in a shell i musta been stoned when iw hatched it.. was ahrd to follow 7/10

and uhh cant think of anymore right now.. but what do u gusy think of those anime's? those who have seen

Reread my post, I was simply stating that the word "cyborg" went put into the context of evangelion is just not right. I put it in there to point out that the the evas are so much more than cyborgs. Don't go change meaning of my post around. My point is, I am highly against putting a single word to describe the evas, and I won't try to. They're humanity's attempt at creating a god, the key to the third impact, and, as the end of eva puts it, when humans cease to exist, the eva will be proof that humans ever existed. If you feel like discussing this further, I don't care, I'm not changing my mind. This little arguement on a word has been blown way out of proportion and I don't have all day to discuss the nature of evangelions on some internet forum.

And yeah, Ninja Ressurection did suck, but the ending of episode one was a little screwy for my tastes. Seemed like it was just going for the shock factor.

The first Kenshin OVA was violent, but excellent animation, story, etc.

There was that one episode in Boogiepop Phantom where the kid ate bugs.

Perfect Blue was distrubing. Memania was just weird looking and creepy.

Macross Plus (movie edition) with Guld at the end was a little stomach churning to watch.

*lost in how it was "stomach churning"*
                      Tear jerking maybe.

I thought Perfect Blue was clever... I never would have guessed the ending in a million years.[/Hyperbole]

And I agree with Peter about the Evangelions not being Cyborgs. The word simply doesn't define them properly (I'd explain, but I hate ruining plot lines for people). Let's just leave it at that the EVA's are more then Metal, wires, microchips, and a pilot.

Unless the EVAs are living or have organic parts ( I don't know because I've never seen the series ), than they're simply robots. Or, more specifically, Mechs.

I'm still not sure what you mean by "hardcore," but I guess Naruto and Hunter x Hunter could be hardcore. Akira has some gruesome action ( more specifically, the manga ). The Rurouni Kenshin OVA also had some pretty good action.

They do. They also have a soul.... I was trying very hard to not have to say this. Like I said, I hate ruining plot lines for people.

                            *spoiler about macross plus*

Guess I was exaggerating when I said "stomach churning." Unpleasant is a better word. I'm talking specifically about when Guld sacrifices himself against the Ghost X-9. In the series, all it shows is Guld throwing the YF-21 into the Ghost. In the movie, however, Guld's eyes rupture and his head more or less explodes in an effort to stop the Ghost.

Ah, I just noticed now you mentioned it was the movie, not the series. I have only seen the series version. I thought you meant that you found Guld sacrificing himself against the Ghost X-9 stomach churning. Which just plain confused me.

As a side note, Guld is my favourite character in Macross Plus. When he died, a single tear rolled down my left cheek, I kid you not.
