Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Has anyone ventured into Abyssea yet? I'm dying to read of others' experiences there, but almost all of the good FFXI sites are blocked (for me, at work).

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Let me put it in another way:
If you leveled red mage for the sole purpose of tanking, you picked the wrong job to level.
All I'm reading here is butthurt about how SE broke the red mage job so I repeat:
Red mage wasn't designed to be a tank job, you had your fun, now get over it and adapt.
Aside from having lost the 'hate tools' Red mage can still do everything else it could before the update.
Don't like it? Plenty of other jobs to pick from.
Red mage = not broken.
Now for a real personal opinion:
Hurray for the disappearance of another bandwagon job, I'm looking at you next Samurai!

Neither was Ninja--Oh wait, now they can't tank either, or DD, or heal, or support...Yeah reducing the number of already elusive tanks in the game is totally a good thing.

Right, because there should only ever be one, two possible job combinations at the most that should be able to tank.Originally posted by Shirai View PostWhy am I reading the same arguments I read a few years ago when mazurka enmity got nerved?

Screw innovation and trying something different, if you aren't conforming to the exact mold that S-E wants, then screw you, you can't tank!
Do note that this wasn't just a nerf for Red Mage tanks, but also PLD/RDMs, NIN/RDMs, NIN/DRKs . . . pretty much anybody that's not a PLD/WAR or a PLD/NIN. Such a variety of options available for us!Last edited by Yellow Mage; 06-22-2010, 07:59 AM. Reason: S-E seems to hate PLD/RDM in particular, considering that they also gave Paladins Phalanx natively.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
The Black Magic Enfeeble nerf was completely uncalled for. If they had limited it to just the Sleep line I would've understood, but still . . .
Also, I stand by my previous statements that all of Red Mage's goodies are being held off until September. Barring the enmity nerf, Red Mages quite frankly need to be humbled. Else, how could you possibly justify giving us anything good?

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
What the hell are you smoking? This isn't a community issue at all. SE just took a groin shot at RDM tanks' hate building tools. If Red Mage no longer has the tools to build CE or spike VE then it cannot tank by virtue of not being able to hold hate. This is a mechanics issue, but apparently you're convinced it's the big bad playerbase and my refusal to lead exp parties that just axed RDM tanks in End Game.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten;887058
2. This is very much about what the community will allow. To think otherwise is to be in denial. When the cap goes to 99, do you seriously think anyone is going to give a [Ishit [/I]that you hit 75 and would like to merit? Not a chance in hell. If SE doesn't address that, watch it happen.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
I finally finished the download this morning (it died while I was sleeping with 325 files still left), and as I was logging in, I re-checked the Lufaise page. Seems there is a new Fomor Warrior pop, it (and the others) was added as a separate line item, and I was sorting by level before checking. And since the new pop will probably not drop a file, maybe this is just as well.I've been trying to get the stupid Extra-Fine File for a Windurst quest off and on for a couple of weeks now and it simply would not drop. I even had a THF 75 with me for a couple of night cycles, and that didn't help. It is only known to drop off of three of the seven fomor in that part of the zone.
So I just now gave him another slapdown just to prove that I could. Of course he didn't drop jack.
Now to get 15k xp so I can talk to the moogle already.

1. Your problem. I hate leading and find it stressful, too, but if I know I need to get something done or want to satisfy my needs, chances are I'll get it done faster if I leading the group and seek out like-minded people. Waiting for the world to come to you doesn't do a damn thing, you just end up subjecting yourself to the demands of others..Originally posted by cidbahamut View PostAnd I'll tell you to fuck right off for a number of reasons:

Its hard to tell, RDMs are always butthurt about something, even after they're given things they've wanted. At least SMNs shut up for a while after they got Odin and Alexander, but weeks later after RDM got thier goodies they started crying because *surprise* it didn't rock the world enough to make parties change for them.3. It sounds like you're laboring under the misconception that I'm butthurt about not being able to melee.
Community strikes again. And here you expect SE to fix it. Good luck with that.

Yes, you can. There are plenty of people, i.e *MOST* people in any MMO suck at everything they do. They hide behind good gear.Originally posted by Aksannyi View PostNot if you want to play with people that don't suck at everything.

Stop being a spineless and build you own parties. I don't care if you don't like to lead parties, but in games like this to get what you want you have to take initiative. You can play RDM as more than a glorified WHM, the problem is that you expect SE to fix the game so the community accepts what you want.
That is NEVER going to happen if you subject yourself to being led all the time, so stop being a follower.
The community will always favor what is safest, fastest and the most efficient means of doing something - they will not likely favor what is the most fun for you. Guess where that puts RDM? Healing, support, enfeebling and magic bursting. Deal with it.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Hate to burst your community bubble, but the majority are idiots. Id say a solid 30% of people still think haste samba reduces your TP/hit like delay reduction, we all know 90% of people are still of the opinion pup damage sucks, when they can out nuke BLM's and SCH's and out heal any healer, their RNG pet aint that bad either. The community will always favor what is safest, fastest and the most efficient means of doing something - they will not likely favor what is the most fun for you. Guess where that puts RDM? Healing, support, enfeebling and magic bursting. Deal with it.
As for RDM melee, if you are not able to melee in parties that is your own fault, not the communities, yours. There is no reason why you should not be able to main heal and AUTO-ATTACK. Hell in meripos (well level 75 parties now) you should be meleeing all the time. Especially on anything that rhymes with lolibri.
Let me just give of a bad RDM from a recent part I had...............
We were fighting Crawlers in Subteranne as DRG/PLD/SAM/THF/WHM/RDM the RDM nor WHM couldnt keep haste on us all, the RDM barely kept refresh on the PLD and WHM. What pray tell had him so occupied, oh I do not know because he was not enfeebling, nuking or meleeing.
Now i knew this RDM from previous groups and chats and he always wished to melee or do something else other than cure bot, so when I made the party I brought a WHM along to give him the chance to do something else, he decided to do..nothing.
He did nothing with any consistency. This is a prime example of a time to not be a pink mage, did he use it? No, but he also didnt play as a RDM either. As a person who has long advocated RDM's to step up their game and stop just standng on the backline twidling their thumbs, I was livid, and berated him to the point where he left pissed off.
Moral of story, don't bitch about things, then pass up the opportunity to do them when it arises.
Also for the record the "best meripo" (or level 75 party) is
DD/SAM x2 COR/RNG, BRD/NIN, RDM/NIN, DNC/NIN (main healer).
It is the fastest EXP group attainable, but GL finding a RDM who can melee or 5 people who think haste samba is haste and not delay reduction.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Well, so far I'm dissapointed in Fencer on WAR. I did not notice a difference while equipping a shield, so I took it off and just went strictly 1handed. The crit bonuses, sure, they kicked in pretty often; after I counted about 100 hits, I struck criticals 16 times; but this is eyeballing numbers. (Have 2% crit merits anyway,) but I can hit harder, faster going Two-Handed and /SAM and bust out my WS in the process.
My speed was 3.5 for one handed vs 3 for 2 handed (including just haste and haste gear,) 8 tp a hit. The TP bonus was no where to be seen after doing Rampage and getting 12TP back, so I have to assume its a damage modifer, yet again, my damage seemed slightly higher than normal, maybe by 30-40 points.
I figured using a shield would be cool cuz I grabbed a shield with attack on it. Nope, not that big a difference over /SAM.
I did not notice anything out of the ordinary on my WS either. I can usually crit Rampage at 100TP about a decent amount of ws of the time or so. DEX is at 117 during gear swap.
Oh well.... it was a nice try. Maybe Joyeuse 1handed would get more mileage out of this for PLD at 90. I'm going to assume it worked with a shield on, even though it didn't really seem to.
