Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
"Spells compatible with Composure are Regen, Refresh, Blink, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Haste, all Barspells, all Enspells and Spikes spells, Phalanx, Deodorize, Sneak, and Invisible. Note that Deodorize, Sneak, and Invisible are random duration spells, and may still wear off very quickly. (Bar-ra spells such as Barfira will apply the tripled duration to the caster but not to his party.)"
I'm having fun btw.
Edit: Didnt see this one. The duration of most Enhancing Magic spells that are cast upon yourself while under this effect will be tripled. Buffs casted on other players do not receive this benefit, nor will buffs kast by other players onto someone with Composure active.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
SE seems to be taking this idea to heart with FFXIV, as there will be Linkshells for social purposes and "Companies" for events that grow and get bigger over time based on what it's members do. It's a nice balance between the two ideas from what I've heard so far.Originally posted by Feba View PostIt's not an original idea at all, I've seen at least three korean MMOs that do it. Typically it's like a "Give us tons of gold and you can have more people" thing, but for FFXI stat benefits would make more sense. The idea wouldn't be tocarry around more shells though, but to have shells which can get powerful through community building. Doing quests with your LS mates to improve the LS for everyone in it. And obviously only the shell you have equipped would matter. Only problem with it could be solved by having an 'equipped' LS and a 'chat' LS; so that people don't feel like they have to wear their Asshole-Endgame-Pearl when they EXP and want to talk with their Casual-Awesome-Pearl. For that matter, you could kill two birds with one stone by doing that; shells that demand people be on them constantly could have that, while still allowing people a social LS.
I'm aware of that and I mentioned it, but SE didn't make RDM into a tank the players did. Just like SE didn't make Nin into a tank either. SE, in and of themselves, suck at making tanks in FFXI. I'm hoping XIV doesn't have a similar repeat of these issues.Originally posted by MrMageo View PostThey had one in RDM. It was an excellent tank. They had one in RDM. It was an excellent tank. Hell even SE used a RDM/NIN to tank AV in their How To: video.Originally posted by Ziero View PostSE has said it themselves, they openly admitted to not knowing how to make other jobs viable tanks. They see Pld as the blood tank, Nin as the Evasion tank and can't think of any other way to have another job tank effectively.
SE still has 3 tanks, all of which are different at certain things and good at them.
NIN- anything you do not want to get hit by in an evasion build
PLD- The thing you want hate established fast on for a burn.
RDM- still the best Magical Based HNM tank. Still able to tank things a PLD can in non burn styles.
---------- Post added at 01:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 PM ----------
Blind>EN2>blind>EN2>Blind>EN2>Blind>EN2>Blind>EN2>Blind>EN2 (174MP) (VE= 3240) (CE= 480+Cures/Shadows)The CE cut on those spells just mean that for RDM/NIN's to 'tank', they need WS+TA on them to gain/replenish CE at a reasonable rate.
assuming this cycle takes a minute and you heal yourself (cheat cures) or a hate source (a -hp gear swap guy) you can rack some good cure hate too lets just assume you acumulat 1000CE cure hate in a minute , at base you are looking at: about 3 minutes to cap VE, (up from about 2) and CE @ around 6 minutes (up from 3) and behind PLD's (1,4). So not a huge nerf, just puts as back where we belong.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Can't say I'm not a bit miffed out RDM/NIN tanking nerf. On the other hand, every single one of RDM/NIN's survival tools are still intact.
I guess RDM/NIN can be an "enmity dump"; get a couple of DD/THF's to WS+TA on the RDM/NIN, while PLD/NIN steady build enmity in full DD gear for a minute or two without worrying over Utsusemi. Instead of blowing MP on enmity spells and inventory space on enmity gear, the RDM in this role can continue to keep up Refresh/Haste for the PLD, as well as have space for enfeebling gear and the time to put them to use. (PLD and RDM would cure each other, of course.)
* * *
I think SE wasn't so much against RDM/NIN 'tanking' as against RDM/NIN tanking with so little help. PLD/NIN still needs MP recovery, curing support, and would love a BRD, but RDM/NIN with a BRD/WHM is a complete tank package.
The CE cut on those spells just mean that for RDM/NIN's to 'tank', they need WS+TA on them to gain/replenish CE at a reasonable rate.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Thats a cool idea. start a ls picking 1 trait and slowing having that build up as members increase as well as having little quest's to tack on other small traits. see this one guy with no gear carring around like 20 some odd shells so he can have +3 str in one and +3% hp in another.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Honestly, Malacite, you have Maat's Cap. That may not be what it once was, but you had to level what, 15 different jobs to 66+? That's not a small time commitment. Not everything in MMOs happens overnight. Personally, I think the giant bullshit trials of FFXI should be group affairs, where everyone works toward improving everyone else, such as by getting bonus stats for a link pearl or something, but that's not the case. FFXI does have giant timesinks, and you're an absolute moron if you think you can go on playing it without it taking a significant chunk of your time.Originally posted by Malacite View PostSome of us have a life you know. I guess heavy endurance main healing, and high profile solos must be part of the what S-E "intended," because absolutely none of that was affected.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
Seems like the majority of QQ has to do with SE attempting to get jobs back to doing what they were "intended" to do, and what people have become accustomed to over the years don't like that one bit.
Yep, no doubt RDM sticks out in that respect.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
I'm not sure of the exact set up, as I didn't build it, but rather we just rent the maze from the goblins. All I know is that it involves birds, VT-IT mobs, and something that halves exp per kill but greatly boosts exp reward at the end. I easily walk away with two merits after three runs, if not moreso. And that's going in capped in the mid-50s, uncapped things would be even faster, and with a proper TP burn it would go even quicker then that. The Exp bonus at the end is even higher with Cor roll and someone popping an Exp ring.Originally posted by Armando View PostHow?
I doubt these runs can be duo'd/trio'd as they involved VT-IT birds of all types, including things like Cocktraices, Greater birds and Hippogryphs. Though I heard mention of ways to build it for Blms to solo through though. My guess is that it would involve amorphs and something to make them higher level.Originally posted by Mhurron View PostI too would like to know. Also would like to know if MMM can be duoed or trioed and the like.
Apparently not seeing as someone else made the rune and put it up for rental.Originally posted by Grizzlebeard View PostYou must do different MMMs to every other player on FFXI.
That is the worst logic I have ever heard. Only whiners complain so if something happens you don't like and you complain about it you're instantly a whiner?Originally posted by Karinya View PostOnly the people who are upset are bothering to post about it, so everyone who posts about it is upset. That doesn't say jack about the actual community, only about the community of whiners. Same thing happens with every update.
Really, I didn't know 4-5 Blms, Schs or Rdms chain casted Blind, Bind and Dispel regardless of whether they took effect or not. Because you do realize that for the most part the only spell that caused those jobs to get "their faces ripped off" was sleep...and most sleeps still produce the exact same amount of hate. For every player who tried to tank with any of those combinations, there are 4-5 BLMs, SCHs, or RDMs not trying to tank who got their faces ripped off every time they slept an add. You do know that people actually cast those spells for their effects, right? They're not purely Provoke substitutes?
Sleepga hates have remained unchanged, as have Blu Sleeps and Repose. They didn't nerf Sleep/Sleep2 hate to help Blms with crowd control, they nerfed it to kill Rdm tanking. Your comments are completely invalid. Blms will still get massacred doing crowd control.Except that they are also used for crowd control, and BLMs' biggest beef since forever has been getting their face ripped off every time they crowd control mobs because those spells have *too damn much* enmity.
...you really think giving Wars a crappy shield boosting trait will suddenly make them viable tanks? Really? You're grasping at straws because a single War is a terrible tank. They have been for the past five years on anything past level 40. Unless you can tell me what HNMs you solo tank on war. Because I'm not talking about silly little exp parties here, or things like voking a mob just long enough for the rest of a party to tear it apart before the voke recast is even up again. I'm talking about mobs that actually take longer then a minute to kill. And you know this because of your day and a half of extensive testing with post-update WAR tanks? WARs who don't come to the party prepared to tank suck at tanking. And right now, that is most WARs. But asking most RDMs to tank (pre-patch) would have at least as horrible an outcome, even if there are a few who are good at it.
Rdms tanked some of the most dangerous monsters in the game, something only Pld could do. Mobs where you can not, in any way shape or form, melee the monster for hate, and had to do everything you could to avoid and prevent the mob from actually hitting you. Any event a War could 'tank' in, any other melee job could do just as well if not better. But the events Rdm tanked in were literally fights where you had all of two...maybe three...options.
Howso? A shield boosting trait? What war uses shields? It'd be like relying on Guard or Parry to tank. Though to be fair, both mnk and sam have much higher ranks in those skills respectively, and even have other ways to mitigate damage in combination with those skills. Oh and they can use them without completely destroying their DoT hate gaining abilities. Or perhaps you mean Retaliation...the defensive JA that doesn't actually do anything defensive. I mean, it's fun to use in TP burn parties where you're not moving around and can take a hit or two, but against anything big it's only going to get you dead fast. Ooh, ooh, I know, you actually mean the Balestarius, that kick ass looking Gaxe with the Damage reduction right? Except for the fact that it's virtually impossible to get and in all the time since it's been out I've only actually seen it once....on someone who transferred from a different server. So please, do inform me as to what actually useful steps SE has been taking to make War a better Tank? And I don't mean merit/TP burn exp party tank, I mean as a job that can tank something actually dangerous.SE has been trying to bring back WAR tanking for a while now. Players are very hostile to the idea (while simultaneously whining about a tank shortage!), but I'd suggest getting used to it.
SE has said it themselves, they openly admitted to not knowing how to make other jobs viable tanks. They see Pld as the blood tank, Nin as the Evasion tank and can't think of any other way to have another job tank effectively.
Rdms aren't the only ones hurt by this change btw.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostRDMs act like this is the biggest nerf to ever hit the game.

Re: The Version Update Has Arrived! (06/21/2010)
It requires trading 5 kindered seals to the Nomad Moogle in Ru'Lude Gardens while having at least 3 merit points.Originally posted by Chromemage View Post3) How is the limit break quest?
The moogle will take your KS AND your merit points, but raise your level cap to 80!
